Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Ressa and the director of the Digital Futures Lab, Urvashi Aneja, explore the impact AI is already having on communities in the Global South - from labour conditions to democracy and the environment - and why countries need to move beyond “catching up with the North” when deciding what role AI can and should play in their societies.

I work with AI. I am biased. But I also know what it can and cannot do. I know how it's designed and what data goes into it. People need to be aware of what data they post where, but at the same time not freak out about the apocalypse. It is a tool that will allow all of us to do what we want to do in life, but better. The best way to get ahead of dangers of AI is to understand it.

For you, specifically, you must also learn and understand the impacts and implications of AI on people other than yourself, especially those in the global south.*
