There are vids of him doing his Conditioning. He hits things far more Solid than the Makiwari board. The Makiwari board is decent for some conditioning, as well as developing penetration power... but its not quite at impactful as hitting a wall mounted sandbag, for example. Something that doesnt move / flex at all... when you impact... challenges your whole internal body structure... from Fist to Foot.

how come no one ever mentions how awful getting hit by someone like Taka would be? just my opinion but having stone hard knuckles is a major advantage. I personally only focus on the part I strike with not my entire hand. just as my tactical focus is more anticipation and evasion. not blocking, grappling or countering with parries really. so far, I've learned a few techniques of aikido that might be useful under that right conditions should the opportunity present itself. I really like the close line technique, I don't even have to do it right for it to be effective, I like that. the correct way feels awkward. I've noticed aikido doesn't require much force but if one adds unnecessary force the result is ideal. I know I don't do things right and I feel bad about turning something elegant as aikido into something ugly and brutal, but I feel it wants to be that way. aikido seems incomplete like it was intended to accompany something else. am I not getting the whole picture? or am I not understanding things.

Proper Iron Fist / Iron Body conditioning, is brutal. Just light taps are enough to cause the OP severe pain and bruises. Unfortunately, Taka's version of conditioning, has left some Deformities (swollen hand size). The correctly done Chinese methods, do not cause visible changes / deformities. It looks like a typical fist, but it feels like an Iron Ball. Or the forearm looks like any normal forearm.. but again.. feels like getting hit by a solid metal bar. This conditioning is really needed, if you want to be able to hit someone in the head, without breaking your own knuckles. As for modern Aikido... it changed from its original roots. In the older form of it... it contained Striking. The Master that changed it... got upset from a life of harming others, and so he became a Pacifist. When that happened, he altered the Art, to be mostly Defensive. According to Steven Seagal... Seagal learned the older version, that still had the Striking within it. He also states that there are some other operational changes that were made. You can watch Jesse Encamp's video of Seagal describing the differences, and showing some physical examples. As for the levels of force needed to apply... With Soft arts, you tend to go with the OPs vectored mass. This greatly amplifies the counters, and or strikes, that you do. Like water... fluid, fast, and then Crashing power when needed. If you try to confront force with directly opposing force... you are not applying things correctly.

@@user-ee9vk7vj5t The older version of Aikido had Hand strikes, and Operated similar to Sword techniques. When Modern teachers removed the hand strikes... it became more of a sport or game... instead of a combat art. Ive heard that there are other changes as well... that further degrade its capabilities, compared to the Original version.
