The Air Ministry Desk || Mid Century Desk Build

The "Air Ministry Desk" - solid oak desk, designed around the mid century style of the desks used in the Air Ministry during the 1930s & 40s in the UK. The clients wanted a classic look, utlising tapered legs, paired with a continuous grain front apron & drawer fronts - traditional joinery was used for visible parts, including solid oak drawers with rebate & groove joinery, but the legs & aprons were joined with dominoes (loose mortise & tenon). The oak coved handles were also custom made.
I'm a custom furniture maker based in North Wales working from my self-built workshop set above the Afon Ceirw (Deer River in English).

Awesome work. Nice lines, I love your attention to accuracy and detail, and it’s nice seeing someone do drawers without hardware. Congrats on an amazing piece. That grain pop when you added the finish was just 👌

Thanks very much Neil, love making drawers this way, always a place for good hardware, but this piece called for a traditional approach! When I selected & milled the boards I knew we had a treat in store once we got to finish!

Lovely build and video Mark! I really like that coved handle detail too. Can I ask what type of finish you applied to this? That grain really popped beautifully when it was added.
