This scene proves the hypocrisy of marley. They persecute eldians because of their atrocities 100 years ago, but then proceed to do the same exact thing and abuse titans. The world simply traded one set of shackles for another. Marley deserved their complete destruction imo

I do think this scene showed why Marley was keen on getting the founding titan; titans are still a war winner... For now. But it was clear that technology would render titans obsolete in the not too distant future. The anti titan shells and the battleships showed the weapons where catching up to titans and would defeat them in the end.

@@z-man1237Nope. The most powerful modification Ymir could make to her Titan was the Hardening Skill. But even those armor are already becoming obsolete either by Paradis's Thunder Spear or superior Anti-Titan weapon employ by the rest of the world. There's no hope left for Titan.

Imagine if Paradis Island had begun to forge ties with nations that were attacked by Marley and lend their unqiue skills to them (ideally under the guise of something benign). Suddenly Marley has to deal with crazy people who hurl themselves at titans for survival on the mainland as well. Though that would have probably not worked for long as the resource for the 3D Gear existed only on Paradis Island

Eh, I'm okay with it. Reiner is armored and he only dies if they hit the nape of the neck. And because he blocked the shells, they all exploded and left Zeke unharmed.

For the plot they couldn't die, but I would've preferred to see one Titan at least completely incapacitated. It also feels odd that they had their fleet all in one spot and somehow lacked the capability to shoot down the blimp. Had they never seen one before? Have they not been aware of each of the titans capabilities. Why did they not set any traps and why did the ships not fire earlier. Everything can surely be explained, but although this is one of my favorite scenes the more I see it the more I wish that this battle lasted longer and posed more of a challenge. Attack On Titan has been so good because nothing ever goes easy and sacrifices are made at almost every turn, so maybe that's why this scene feels a bit out of character for the series.

@@GTChris maybe the blimps were a new technology and the ships didn't have the range finding capabilities. after all, these are primitive artillery shells, so they don't have much range without a lot off drop off. another possibility is that the ships guns don't even aim that high up because again, the blimps might have been really new.

Plot Armor was strong with Marley this episode; in spite of the Eastern Alliance undoubtedly knowing of Marley's aerial capability, they had NO anti-aircraft guns in Ft. Slava. Considering the power and sophistication of their Anti-Titan Artillery, Anit-Aircraft Artillery should've been easy-peasy, a naturally concurrent development.,

I think you don't know what plot armor is. The whole first half of the episode is the foot soldiers destroying the Fort's defences. ONLY AFTER THAT did the airship came. And it was at a altitude much higher than any artillery could reach, because they didn't need to get close to the Fort, only fly above it and drop the Titans and Reiner & Zeke there. And no, absolutely no weapon in WW1 or WW2 would be able to do anything with the Titans falling (it needs to hit their necks), or with Reiner (He was a guy in a parachute, and later a Titan falling from the sky). So there was no plot armor here.

@@Vladobrane Technically WW2 weapon COULD kill the titan by blasting the whole body with Flak. But that's not my point. It seems that Anti-Aircraft Artillery is not a thing yet. Even the Marlayan's Zeppelin was still a revolutionary technology. This mean that the concept of Aerial Warfare and it's countermeasure does not exist yet.

Kind of a shame this is the only time we really see Titan warfare properly in action. (i.e. Titans forming part of a combined arms strategy alongside conventional troops and weapons. Season 4 was great, but I still feels in some areas it was lacking)

The thing I least liked about season 4 is the HUGE number of missed opportunities, it felt weirdly rushed. A lot of great moments and resolved plots (Zeke, Reiner, Jean, Gabi, and Hange in particular have great resolutions imo), but Eren and Levi disappeared for most of the season, Armin gets nerfed (negating Erwin’s death), Annie gets immediately forgiven despite being the main villain of season 1, Mikasa essentially depends on Eren to be interesting (and he’s frequently gone). Love the show, and season 4 overall, but there were so many things they skipped over, ignored, or forgot about.

1. They were probably just too high and out of reach for the weapons. 2. These are not easy goals, even if they are big. They move and fall from the sky, look at World War II scenes how much ammunition people had to fire to hit planes. And yes, there are significantly fewer planes, but the World War II anti-flight armament was much better against aerial targets than the stuff you see in the anime. These are not target-seeking weapons.

Those are field guns (like what was used to knock out tanks in WWII) and they can elevate 45 degrees at absolute most. You wanna fire straight up you need anti-aircraft guns or howitzers, both of which would be completely useless against a free falling Titan. AA rounds are far too small to do any real damage and howitzers take way too long to move and aim to hit a moving target like an oversized rifle.

I loved that part because it was surely one of the last time where titans get to win a battle by almost by themselves (except for the rambling) -plus near a coast, with enough ships, you can defeat them easily while they try to reach the ships, at the cost of a few ships, if the titans are swimming underwater, and then you shoot when they come out of the water, if they got great/better guns like the train. An armored train can shoot and rip the armor titan's arm, meaning normal titans are about to become useless in a few years -as you can defeat them with it, cut their arm/leg and then you got the time to shoot at their neck while they can't really move. (the time to get enough antitank weapon to all bases, and weapons to shoot the plane too before it drops his titans or to shoot titans in the sky, to get some time and kill them on the ground while they heal themself)

The fear of titans were no different compared to the Paradis before finding out the big lie. Only difference was is that there wasn't a government trying to impede technological growth, only having ODM as the best chance in Anti-Titan combat and if it weren't for thunder spears, rookies wouldn't last going for the nape and veterans before the invention of thunder spears had to rely on bait and teamwork tactics to kill a titan.

Marley and Eldia started out like Ancient Rome vs Germanic Barbarians fighting in one continent until Eldia won with Ymir’s power. They proceeded to conquer the world for over 2000 years until they had a civil war and King Karl Fritz(A Coward) left to Paradis Island and made the walls. Marley took over and has been using the power of the titans since then along with taking back control over their home land. The conflict in the vid takes place in the Middle East of the Aot world against Marley

They did actually. If the Warriors make just a little mistake they would've lost Reiner to the AT-Gun immediately. Zeke would've also been killed by the naval barrage. All in all they put up quite a fight.
