Mat Manning is out rabbit shooting in the pastures in this week’s episode, and he’s kitted up with the high-power version of the awesome Brocock Safari XR in .25 calibre. After kicking off successfully with stalking tactics, Mat settles in for an ambush to add more bunnies to the bag while capturing the action on sniper-cam.
Also on this week’s show, we take a look at the GX-40 from Gamo. This awesome gun dispels the myth that you have to spend a fortune to buy a decent PCP - it’s robust and reliable and delivers great multi-shot performance without breaking the bank.

Great shooting, great gun with a decent power. Zeiss optics are absolutely top class, right up there with Leica. Those who are old enough to remember the Hasselblad 500V series of cameras that used Zeiss optics, and those cameras are just legend.

Good shooting Mat. 👍 Conditions must be good, seeing how there’s Mixy there about. We get the same down here in Australia, get good rain, rabbits breed up and the mosquitoes breed up as well, then they infect the bunnies and down the numbers go again. Rabbit rollercoaster. 😏

Glad you re-uploaded the video. First one only having the gun review was disappointing. That disease must be highly contagious, probably because they rub faces as a greeting, I believe. Agree very sad.

I read an article by John Darling once that said you could eat rabbits with Miximitosis but I just don’t fancy risking it

Mixo isn't transferrable to humans. It is safe to eat and It actually softens the meat. It's more of a mental thing.

Looks identical to the phox, I heard the gx-40 can be easily modded to fire well above 12 ft/lbs?

This is true. Can get it up to around 18/20 ft/lbs. UK rifles only have a small plastic bung stopping you tuning

I’m looking for a reaction like your first kill where the rabbit was twitching it’s legs in agony …..would that be possible for a trigger finger through the scopes ….so it disables any more shots ….but I’d prefer no injury , very serious about that. I don’t want them emptying bladders like u did to the rabbit. Just an accurate disabling of the weapon?

The rabbit wasn’t kicking in agony it was a clean head shot, these twitches are simply nerve twitches and quite normal. In real life things don’t just stop moving instantly like in films. The emptying of the bladder stops the urine tainting the meats taste 👍

Eat them ! Not fit for dogs , even without myxy , theres more nutrients in the food rabbits eat than the actual meat ( fact)

.177 nearly always has less shots per fill. It's due to the higher velocity of the pellet I believe.

Pellet, altho slightly smaller in .177 needs more air to push its speed up...

People buy the crappest scopes for their rifles . Shmidt and bender 👍👍👍 parralax to 10m 😀😀😀 , (zeiss beater ) maybe unfair , but certainly parralax wise theyre perfect for plinking to uber serious distant target shooting AND built for the highest recoiling firearms ,which wreaks havock on scopes for spring rifles . When buying a large caliber scope, look for parralax from 10m up theyre built to last

@Peter Johnson yes havina - being a springer fan and shooting 1000 crosman premiers an outing , it soon became apparent normal scopes couldnt cut it . I started off with a vortex razor ffp 4-16. Then meopta optika 6 5-30 . I firmly believe the better you can see your target the better you can shoot it , calibrate it parralax it , everything the scope can do , with patience even out to 140m and consistently ,

The owner of are local gun club has a hawke sidewinder on his 50cal British army sniper rifle just to prove how well built hawke scopes are ,its been on the same rifle for about 5 years and still going strong,but everyone has there own preference 👍

does anyone have any tips for shooting? non of the land owners will give me permission and all of them are stuck up and very arrogant and hostile. i'm sat with a £1000 rifle that i cant hunt with, its getting to the point where i am just going to have to find places out of the way where i can shoot without being disturbed. everyman has the right to hunt, im tired of arrogant land owners who wont let a respectful fella shoot. its either that or just sell the rifle getting fed up.

Much quieter than a 22lr or 17hmr, cost of ammunition is cheap, safer to shoot in semi-rural areas especially since he mentioned dog-walkers around where he was

Mixy Rabbits can be eaten, mixy is not a health risk to humans, if the rabbit is in good condition other than the obvious signs of mixy eat it , the meat will be unaffected, stop being a great big man baby.
