The Airport at the Edge of Greenland - Kulusuk (An Unscheduled Stopover - Reykjavik to Nuuk))

Жыл бұрынThe East Coast of Greenland is one of the most remote inhabited areas of the world. Taking an Air Greenland flight from Reykjavik to Nuuk we had to make an unscheduled stop at Kulusuk as the Dash 7 did not have enough fuel to cross the ice cap and reach Nuuk.
Kulusuk Island is home to just over 200 people yet the US built airfield is an essential hub for all the tiny settlements of the isolated east coast. It has to qualify as one of the most remote airports with scheduled passenger flights anywhere in the world. The terminal is barely large enough to house one flight of incoming and outgoing passengers, and flights are regularly cancelled due to strong winds.
Flying in Greenland is always an adventure!

Thanks Nicola. I flew Dash 7s on my first trip to Greenland and hadn't realised that since then they've been phasing in the Dash 8. They do look alike!

Yes, my mistake. Hadn't spotted that there had been an overhaul of the fleet since my previous visit.

It’s actually the least remote part of Greenland, as close to Iceland as you can get

That's a matter of perspective. The residents of kulusuk have no interaction with Iceland apart from receiving some day trippers in the summer. They suffer from their remoteness from the centre of power in Greenland on the west coast.

Fair point, I like to think Greenland can forge better connections with both east and west in the future.. Kulusuk really looks like a safe spot to develop maybe an interesting, viable tourist location for Europeans. I actually have got the impression the Greenland tourist sector is doing increasingly well.

Hi Jonathan, 1 bit of advice from someone who's travelled a fair bit and watches few travel vlogs: A longer video of around 20 mins highlighting more details about the place or even combining 2-3 videos to make it more interesting might bring in more traffic and might result in monetizing your already awesome content.

Hi Souritya. Most of my films are 8 to 15 minutes in length. This was a "short" simply due to the nature of the content.
