@@antonczerwinske5910 Well, unless both Wikipedia and Google maps are both in error, what you say is not true. The airport is clearly in France, but the airport appears to be jointly administered by France and Switzerland. It appears to be more than 2 miles (3.2 km) from Germany.

Swiss and the French: Hold our croissants and fondue Basel's and Geneva's airports are both by the borders. Geneva has a French sector for those arriving from French destinations who want to directly exit into France and avoid Swiss customs, Basel's has two customs areas (one Swiss, one French). Basel's airport is also 4 kilometers from Germany

Not quite the same as stepping off a commercial flight and the exit doors of the terminal building that you can choose from are physically located in different countries. Basel certainly couldn't do that. If they wanted to, Geneva could put a terminal on the other side of the runway for arrivals into France, but you'd still need to connect them by a tunnel under the runway or something. At Tijuana, the airport terminal is squeezed into the same side of the runway as the international border. None of the gates are more than 100m from the United states. As Noel states in the video, it's a rather unique situation.

Yeah, our recent Mexico City trip from San Diego was $110 round trip nonstop 3 hours,, but flying from San Diego to Mexico was $550 round-trip, with one stop in Houston adding two hours. But I will say this, never again on viva, I'm totally going to pay the extra 30 bucks for Aeromexico. Mostly because it seems like viva was changing flight times so much, and it direct seem like Aeromexico wasn't. Also my daughter swears by Aeromexico , apparently, is much more comfortable.

Watching this brought me good memories, I'm Mexican, I did my flight training in San Diego during 2011-2012, so I did lots of touch and gos in Brown Field, a few years later I became a pilot for Volaris, I was based in Tijuana for 4 years from 2015 to 2019, then I left for another company... It is strange, everything felt so familiar for a second, I even recognized the flight attendant at 5:09. By the way, we used to do the ILS Rwy 09 into Tijuana when the Santa Ana winds were prevailing. The CBX is very convenient, I used it a few times. Thanks for the video!

Having lived for many years in San Diego, I have to say that the CrossBorder Terminal is a godsend - and I never thought I would ever say that about an airport. I used to drive along the main road that runs along the border on the US side, and look across empty fields to the airport on the other side of the fence and wonder - why isn't there a way to access it from here? There are two main automobile border crossings into Tijuana, one to the east and one to the west of the airort. Neither of them provide easy access to the airport. The ability of San Diegans to fly in/out of TIjuana to other parts of Mexico and South America, saves time and money. Almost all flights departing from San Diego go north to Los Angeles and then south. And a friend can drop you off by car on the USA side, and not have to wait in line for two hours to cross back over the border from Mexico.

@Salsuero
@Salsuero 3 жыл бұрын
Well, yeah... many private pilots fly from one airport up and around a town for tourists or personal enjoyment and arrive back at the same airport after their flights -- effectively going only just a few meters down the runway or none if we're counting the distance from where the plane gets parked. In fact, that's usually how you get flight training, at least in the beginning. I don't think it's as weird as you think to fly from a small airport to another one, even if they're nearby. Of course, you're not getting on a 747 to do that... but regional airports large enough to offer commercial flights on jumbo jets aren't flying to nearby airports.

Not mentioned in the video are two super-projects at the location. One is the "Nuevo Edificio Procesador" that will create an international in-transit area for overseas flights at Tijuana Airport. That building should open by December 2021. It'll work with the CBX bridge. Foreigners will land and won't have to pass through Mexican immigration and customs. The other is the "Metrolink Airpark" at Brown Field. There's only limited information on that project. But it should create the possibility of catching regional flights from Brown Field.

Actually if you want to see an airport that is really in two countries go to the Geneva Switzerland (and France) airport. Part of the runway is in France and part in Switzerland and there are parts of the terminal in France and parts in Switzerland. Depending on the flight you arrive on the Swiss side or the French side. Flying from Paris for example, you arrive in Sector France as a domestic flight. You can then walk to the Swiss part and clear Swiss customs. Both sides have rental car counters, etc.
@afcgeo882
@afcgeo882 3 жыл бұрын
That’s false. GVA lies 100% within Switzerland. All of its facilities and runways are in Switzerland as well. Its northern limit runs alongside the French border. When in 1946 the runway needed extension, the needed land was transferred from France to Switzerland, while a nearby Swiss territory of same size was transferred to France. Prior to Swiss entry into Schengen in 2008, Terminal 1’s F piers served solely French domestic flights. The rest served Swiss-bound flights. Since then border and customs have disappeared from F as it is a Schengen area.

This is why I subscribed to this channel recently, going airport to airport just to get a 1 minute video side of the wall on the U.S. side! Most people would had just left it with the video from the Mexican side.

There was also plans for Gibraltar, UK airport terminal to cross the border into Spain. Allowing Schengen/Internal flights to operate into Gibraltar and then exit straight onto the Spanish side of the border. But it neverh appened in the end, and even now you can still see the airport terminal building just come to an abrupt end at the fence where the Spanish side was supposed to be built. Now with Gibraltar potentially joining Schengen there is even less of a need for it.

Noel, Mexico is in the Americas. It’s US airspace. Please don’t unintentionally disrespect all Americans who are not US Citizens! Thanks

Fascinating! Living in border areas can be very interesting to say the least. I assume you could walk over the bridge to get back into Mexico instead of the reverse round trip?

I've used CBX several times and I can asure you that is correct. Even now with the border closures, Mexico's borders are still open to tourists. He could've checked in on the USA side, and then walked through that bridge directly into the Tijuana airport to clear customs, as long as he had a departing flight booked. But then, he could've not gotten back into the USA, which is why I assume he didn't showed that part.
