1980s and 1990s joshi is so ridiculously underrated, it's mind-blowing. These ladies were willing to give it their all.

Hokuto vs Kandori is the first joshi match i ever saw many years after the fact. it still blows my mind that this match happened in 1993. I never had any idea of the background of both women being from rival promotions or the backstory of the two individuals leading into the match. thank you for the retrospective on this match, as well as the whole show

Another Piece of Psychology I like to point out for the Kandori and Hokuto match At the end, after Akira hits her Northern Lights Bomb and Kandori reacts with her own. She goes for the Pin. After constantly sniping for submissions throughout the entire fight. She has given up the ghost of attempting to SHOOT with Akira and instead attempted to fight wrestling with wrestling. A Fight that clearly failed at the end.

I had a female calico cat I named Arsion after the promotions name . But nobody "got It " so her name became Arson eventually . A stupid fact nobody will care to hear , but since you brought the name up it reminded me of her . RIP my sweet Arsion/Arson . Yall can laugh all you want too ! But she was the lovingest , sweetest , friendly and playful cat you could ever know ! I miss my friend .

I'm astounded by the agility and athleticism the women wrestlers brought to the discipline. I'm much more used to seeing hulking older men in this field, extremely entertaining of course, but when seen alongside the Joshi ladies leaping about like circus performers it's hard to look past how much they just flab about and get winded for their efforts. And it's so infuriating that they were pressured into retiring early, seems like the men were afraid of the stiff competition ;p

Jesus Christ, the top of Hokuto's head actually hit the table. I wonder if that led to a concussion. The Dangerous Queen was one of the toughest wrestlers of all time.

Great video! I was lucky enough to watch Jaguar Yokota and Inoue Kyoko in action last autumn at a Zero1/WWWD house show in Kumamoto, that also had a live interview with Bull Nakano as part of fundraising for Otani after his surgery. A great show, every other match Zero1 and every other match WWWD. The main event was a WWWD trios match: Inoue Kyoko, Hashimoto Chihiro and Deborah K vs. Jaguar Yokota, Sato Ayako and Asuka, that spilled from the ring into the crowd and had plenty of foreign objects. Great stuff.

Interestingly the future re-airing of this show as part of the AJW Classics series, swapped the match order. Hokuto/Kandori aired last instead with the tag main event airing before.
@kadaveri

Hokuto/Kandori was the main draw of this show really. The tag match went on last because FMW insisted that they be in the main event as they were the larger promotion, but it was definitely not the most anticipated match on the card.

That ring has absolutely ZERO give or bounce to it ! How those women did it at such a high level is mind blowing . I don't care how much you condition your body to take those bumps ! These women are extraordinary . They were so revolutionary as well . They were doing insane moves and doing everything picture perfect . They were doing powerbombs and such before guys were in the 80s . Phenomenal talent . I cant praise 80s and 90s Joshi enough . That is why I balked at WWF/E and WCW womens divisions . At least WCW brought in some great Joshi talent though ! And in the WWF you saw The Jumping Bomb Angels a tad bit I guess . But it was nothing like what was going on in Japan !

I think that one of the reasons why I fell in love with Toyota Manami when I watched a French documentary about AJW from 1991 they made Toyota Manami feel like a underdog in the documentary compared to the power houses of both AjA Kong and Bull Nakano that is the power of a great documentary.

The birth of "X-Pac Heat". It still amazes me how many KZfaq channels that talk about wrestling ((usually based out of the UK hosted by people in their late 20's/early 30's)) don't understand or get or pay attention enough to notice that, seriously, the only reason X-Pac became so hated in the business by the fans had nothing to do with his skills, his abilities, his matches, his promos, or anything like that: It was simply because he stole Tori from Kane. It was because of Kayfabe. It made people believe so much, that they STILL hold it against X-Pac without even really remembering why.

Thanks for the video! Can you please do a video on Brody's murder? I have always wondered what actually happened there, especially considering that the testimonies of various witnesses differed a great deal. Would love to see a video where you compare their testimonies and see where it matches where it doesn't as well as try to figure out the real reason for the murder (and of course discuss the effects of the murder on the territory). I believe that will be a really interesting video. Thanks.

Always good to see proper credit to Takako- way too often I read a lot of "it's not as great when Takako's in" with regards to '90s matches, but her character work is as good as any main eventer's and her moves are really good, too. And she doesn't blow moves, either.

I'm afraid I can't be so relativistic and sanguine about how badly the AJW treated its talent. If it is sexist, creepy, perverse and petty now, it was sexist, creepy, perverse and petty then, not least because all the middle aged men who were making most of the money certainly didn't have a retirement date, or an expectation to go forth and multiply. So, perhaps, it is only fitting that AJW ended up creating its competition by binning so much talent which, as the documentary shows, had decades left to give. That talent went on to find success elsewhere, and is the reason we're having this discussion, and joshi wrestling is going worldwide, rather than being yet another example of Japan being self-defeatingly weird and parochial. After nearly karking it in 1997, the AJW finally went the way of all flesh in 2005. Joshi was too big for its chastity belt to handle.
@82gamerprincess31
@82gamerprincess31 Жыл бұрын
When sexist BS not only is a human rights issue but also directly murders a company that should still be around. Also it’s always really bugged me how people constantly talk about the influence of 90’s All Japan and NJPW juniors on modern wrestling while leaving out Michinoku Pro, Toryumon, and AJW. Kudo/Combat btw was my introduction into Joshi from FMW commercial released VHS tapes. I went on to cover Arsion results and other Joshi companies on my own site and freelance submissions. Still a big Joshi fan today spoiled by Stardom, TJPW, and Iceribbon.

You know a show is good when Uncle Dave had 2 matches on the card with 5* and it's earlier than the 2010s. After that it was seemingly enough when the participating workers were able to breath to get close to 5* already. Can't remember how often I watched the show in total, but I would assume it's one of the shows I have seen the most, despite the 5 hour running time. In short: it is what All Together should have been, multiple promotions come together and have a stacked show that everybody loves.

Almost every match on the Dream Slam cards was better than anything Kenny Omega has ever done, which speaks volumes about how Meltzer has destroyed his own credibility.
@Wurzelknecht
@Wurzelknecht 2 ай бұрын
Or how your credibility is zero. I love dreamslam but discrediting Omega like that is just a sign of a Cornette-parrot who hasn't seen any of his matches in NJPW and is just getting on the bandwagon of hating wrestlers that Meltzer Likes, because it's the cool thing to hate Dave nowadays. Omega was arguably the best wrestler on the planet from 2017-2019, based purely of how many great matches he had.
