Anneka meets one of the most driven guard dogs on Planet Earth - The Central Asian Shepherd. Bred to defend flocks from wolves and bears, guard property and have also been used in fighting historically. Related to the Georgian Shepherd and The Kangal, this dog is a formidable nemesis of the wolf. Anneka meets a line of guard dogs developed by Nino Lo Raso and for once, she is unable to touch the dogs.....

My mum had one of these in the old country, it saved her from a bear attack when she suprised it in the corn field, the same dog used to steal bread from the outdoor cooling rack,at the bakers and bring it home to her. She loved that dog sooo much, it slept on her bed at night to guard her and in their bitter winters keep her warm, it was 80 kg.

@Patrick Marckesano dogs are NOT BRED to fight for survival. If ONE of these dogs HAS to fight against a wolf of its own weight and height it probably might live but if it is for survival it is questionable. A wolf HAS TO SURVIVE, it is learning all fighting skills during its life. Not many dogs have to so will def. Be in disadvance

Some of them are friendly, some ferocious. Depends how they are trained. The herder in our village had a big number of horses so he trained Alabais to be protective and ferocious. Every dog in the village frightened of them. We had a lot of Alabais, they were very friendly to other people as they could recognize our relatives from other cities or neighbors. Unfortunately some of them were killed by a wolfs on the hunt or chase. And yes that breeder is right. No dog 1 to 1 can win the wolf. With love from Kazakhstan)

In their perfect environment, where they have to guard against wolfs, foxes etc. They are perfectly loving and loyal dogs towards humans. My grandmother had them in her farm house, back in the days, when they were all farming in Russia. Heard many stories of her finding dead wolfs all around the farm. Although they might be more powerful then a single wolf, they are not smarter then wolfs. Grandmother witnessed how pack of wolfs rolled in the mud and when the dog approached they started to shake the mud of, successfully targeting it for the dogs eyes to blind him, and then went for the throat.

I find it amazing that good pitbull owners wouldn’t have the humanity to forfeit future breeding of pitbull terriers to prevent these dogs getting in the hands of bad owners and as a result people, including children, dying from attacks. They can be beautiful dogs in the right hands but unfortunately dangerous weapons with bad owners. I know bad people would get other dogs if they were banned but it’s a good start to crack down on people who do illegal dog fights etc

You absolutely need to be the alpha pack leader. My dogs weigh 135 each and look me in the eye when they're on their back legs. Yet, I can walk them in the woods on 15' lines, in harness and they will turn left and right, whoa, and line out on command. However, if a dog rushes at us barking it is game over, they go into protection mode. a 150 # person cannot hold them back with strength alone. One of the most enjoyable and informative animal watch videos to date that I have watched. Alabai are a unique breed and that requires passion and respect for anyone wanting them. They are in a league of their own!! I have a Boerboel and Rottweiler, and they are amazing guardians but not at this natural level. And here I thought in my opinion, that the Fila Brasiliero, Ovcharka and Tosa Inu were the ultimate natural guardians - atleast for me they come in a respectable second place, because with socialisation they can be quite friendly from the get go even if slightly suspicious of strangers.. The 3 Alabai I have ever met, are not tolerant of frequent visitors and this video has really explained that to me.. Great work!

Daily walks made her absolutely friendly and cuddle loving. He chose not to train them to be people friendly, mine just adores giving out hugs and getting belly rubs. Please get a second opinion about these dogs, they are not as aggressive as you think! -nerves of steel and calmness is difficult situations -adaptable to all climate -absolutely loving and quick to learn

This guy breeds tiny angry examples of this breed...most are bigger what he says are and again while they are a tough guard....they can be socalised from a very age...like dude its a dog not a lion...the guy in the video needs to relax.

This is a nice video! Sometimes we 'exploit' a dog too much by domesticating, training, etc without any purpose except for our own fun, at the same time these things we did also weaken the dog's survival instinct.. this is a good video about how a kind of dog is being breed, without 'exploiting' them too much by training etc that can weaken their natural instinct. you took another perspective of the purpose of having a dog, great job animal watch!

Thank you, Anneka. I am so glad you acknowledged the severity and importance of the wrong person getting the wrong dog and how, more often than not, the dog is the one that will suffer for it. Nothing is more enraging than someone impulsively getting a dog because "it looks cool" or they know someone with one and their dog is well-behaved, so they must not be "that hard to train," only for reality to kick in and alert them that that's obviously not the case. So many innocent dogs- and other animals- end up in shelters and reserves because ignorant irresponsible people, and that NEEDS to stop!!

"Alabai" is a Turkish compound word. "Ala" means "shimmering". In this context it means something of two collors, one light and one dark color. Bai (we write it as bay) means "master". Alabai is said to be an ancestor of the well known Turkish Kangal breed. It is sort of more raw.. more natural less trainable and only good in a 100% rural environment. But it is a natural breed and not unpredictable at all.

I love that you bring some information about dogs that most people would not understand. People ask, "why would you want to have a dog that bites?" or "no one needs to have a dog that mean?" or other such ignorant comments. You show people the reasons for the development of breeds like this, and teach people that they are not mean or vicious, but bred for a specific working purpose. So many working dogs are grossly misunderstood, and it is very refreshing to see someone celebrate the working breeds for their intended purpose. Not all dogs are supposed to be cuddly pets, jogging partners, and coffeehouse socialites. Some dogs, like some people, are meant to have a real job. Thank you.

Looks to me like nino is trying to paint a picture that his dogs are some elite guarding breed to fetch a high price but the reality is that like any other dog of this type they can be socialised perfectly fine if you structure their upbringing correctly and don't encourage aggressive behaviour. Also his Italian breeder looks to have mixed the dog with labs or collies. They do look nice though. Especially the male black and white one.
@TheName7293

exactly. Any unsocialized, abandoned and untrained dog can become vicious beast like these. Give it good genetics and you can haved a flock of german shpherds that behave exactly like this. But the reasoning wouldn't sound as cool as "I have this awesome guardian dog breed that can fight a wolf... kinda."

@godsfavoursunday9933
@godsfavoursunday9933 3 жыл бұрын
@@velardejl when it comes to dogs there are different types of intelligence but perhaps one of the most important parts of ancient dog breeds is that their intelligence comes from their ability to take on certain skills and become extremely good at it independently. German shepherds are dependently smart as they are in conjunction with a handler but lack a firm individual intelligence. Not all dogs can truly be socialized that's a myth that people say to make it seem like their some top tier trainer. In reality a lot of dogs are simply too independent and are only supposed to be used for one skill.

You have a good point but as someone who raised caucasian shepherd all my life among other breeds, I tell you that some dogs are serious (let's say a german shepherd) you have individuals very different in characters, some individuals (let's say aggressive behavior or guarding behavior) you need to incourage and others you need to discourage!!! But a caucasian shepherd for example you'll always have to discourage and be assertive, they tend to be more serious than other dog breeds ( in general) , now my brother have a german shepherd and he's dead serious to the point that he doesn't actually enjoy being petted much and he just tolerate it but this is not usually the case and it's individual character, but caucasian shepherds most of them are like this, and I never actually seen a truly friendly/Goofy caucasian shepherd towards someone who they don't know and I have been around this breed all my life and my brother wanted a calmer more friendly and smaller guard dog (that's why he got a German Shepherd) but he was unlucky with the friendly part cause his dog is even worse than the ones you see towards strangers but my brother was happy with that cause they sleep without ever having to lock the door and when the kids stay at home he never ever have to worry .

I have an Alabai, all those giant monster Alabais have been mixed with Massive and other breeds. Alabais aren't strange guard dogs that will never bond with other people, they have perfectly normal shepherd dog behaviours and aren't that different temperament wise from a collie or Australian shepherd. It's just that dogfighting and breeding/training for aggression are extremely common in the part of the world my husband is from. However, if you don't train towards aggression and have any level of dog handling skill they are fine. This guy made his dogs this way. My dog has a path he likes to take when we walk so he can go visit all of his friends which include an outdoor cafe where the owner gives him treats, a little old lady that sits outside a lot, his sister who was adopted a block away from us and a street cat that he is friends with. Far from a territorial killer.

From all he said, I definitely get the vibe from this guy that he breeds and trains specifically for aggression, which I believe is a terrible and inhumane way to manage a breed. He was so proud of how aggressive and dangerous his dogs are, but almost everyone in comments who claim to be owners say he's dead wrong about them being "untrainable" and uncontrollably aggressive toward strangers. If his dogs are like that, it's because he made them that way. In addition, his whole theatrical "We cannot have people near them or touching them" also serves as a smokescreen, to keep anyone from seeing how the dogs are actually handled and trained. I 100% don't trust this guy as a breeder, or as an owner.

Alabai owner here. I am from Turkmenistan and alabai is our national pride, we love them. I have seen hundreds of alabai dogs and grew up playing with them. I have also studied in Turkey and seen kangals in person. I have to say that they are exactly the same. Google some pictures of both of them and you will agree with me. I think seljuk turks brought alabai dogs from central asia with them when they were moving to current Turkey in 11th century. Concerning the wolves though, I agree with what the owner said. I knew several shepherds personally, and yes, all of them own alabai dogs, .. but if you asked them if any of their dogs could kill a wolf 1 vs 1, their answer would be NO. People tell tales of wolf killing dogs in my country, but it doesn't go beyond these legends. So why keep them? What alabai can do is to warn the shepherds of any incoming danger, make a lot of noice to distract the wolf, and keep the wolf occupied until the shepherds come and shoot the wolf. In a rare scenario, if a wolf is alone against several alabai, maybe they can kill it. By the way, not every alabai can do the above mentioned. An inexperienced alabai (or any other dog ) will be scared to death just by a scent of a wolf, even if it is a tiny wolf baby that is passing by. Our desert wolves have this interesting property, their scent scares the $h*t out of the dogs. They instinctively know that something superior to them is coming, even if they haven't seen or smelled a wolf before. So you have to train them against this.
