Official HD Video for "Don't Answer Me" The Alan Parsons Project
`Don't Answer Me' was the first single from `Ammonia Avenue' - a 1984 studio album by The Alan Parsons Project. It features APP founder and songwriter Eric Woolfson on lead vocals and keyboards The celebrated video is presented as a story in the fictional comic book series, `The Adventures of Nick and Sugar'. The video took 23 days to film, using a 40-man animation team, and combined traditional cel animation (in the rendering of the figures), stop-motion animation (for the majority of the movements), and even claymation. The video was nominated for Most Experimental Video at the first-ever 1984 MTV Video Music Awards.

I've been familiar with this forever, and I was barely 7-8 when this was on the radio, so I have to doubt this went unnoticed. We're talking southern Europe, Spain to be precise, on top of that, so... Of course, no match in popularity with Michael Jackson at that point, but what could compete with Thriller era Jackson?

CarpathianCarl It's amazing to me that pretty much the same thing happened to you with this song, i just had flashbacks of the cartoon girl in the video, and yes the hook and melody, it's so weird that this song just stuck with me like that, but had no clue of its name or the artist. I remember when "Runaway Train" by Soul Asylum came out in the early 90's and i just thought "kinda sounds like that song" lol, little did i know i would find out what the hell that melody stuck in my head since forever was like more than 20 years later, pretty much by accident. ***** I had the same experience! Going through all my teens with this vague haunting melody and flashes of the music video imagery. I tried for nearly a decade to find this song again, sounding like an absolutely insane person when bringing this up to everyone and shooting down every song/music video they were convinced was the one I was thinking of. And of course, when I finally rediscover it.. it's by complete accident! Figures. :) So glad to know it again though...

Kim Gee LOL that's awesome and indeed the same experience, and i bet this melody ALWAYS just popped up in your head randomly at any given moment, makes you wonder what kind of sorcery or magic earworm these guys put into this song to haunt a bunch of us like that, even though we were far too young when it came out. I'm just glad i was exposed to this kind of music so early in my life :)

If you believe in the power of magic I can change your mind And if you need to belive in someone Turn and look behind When we were living in a dream world Clouds got in the way We gave it up in a moment of madness And threw it all away Don't answer me, don't break the silence Don't let me win Don't answer me, stay on your island Don't let me in Run away and hide from everyone... Can you change the things we've said and done? If you belive in the power of magic It's all a fantasy So if you need to belive in someone Just pretend it's me It ain't enough that we meet as strangers I can't set you free So will you turn your back forever On what you mean to me? Don't answer me, don't break the silence Don't let me win Don't answer me, stay on your island Don't let me in Run away and hide from everyone... Can you change the things we've said and done? I'm 54 years old and grateful that I got to grow up in a time as a teenager when life was simple enough and this song always brings me back to the reality to appreciate the moments that we have now and when being that young then when you've taken things for granted as most usually do. Well that's life and we live and grow and hopefully learn to appreciate the finer things in life that really matter. I personally have failed many times and have succeeded in a few things, but that's life and just the way it is. I wish for everyone good years to come... ✌️🙂

unfortunately you can't take my word for it, but i'm in the circumstance this song's "secret meaning" fits. alan parsons was a mason, if you're a sensitive who gets in a fight with the secret controllers of society, you'll understand the "don't answer me" thing for reals. those boys hose down good people for laughs as a way of life. personally, i'm kind of like, fku him, free west papua Actually.

LYRICS Don't Answer Me If you believe in the power magic I can change your mind And if you need to believe in someone Turn and look behind When we were living in a dream world Clouds got in the way We gave it up in a moment of madness And threw it all away Don't answer me, don't break the silence Don't let me win Don't answer me, stay on your island Don't let me in Run away and hide from everyone Can you change the things we've said and done? If you believe in the power of magic Its all a fantasy So if you need to believe in someone Just pretend its me It ain't enough that we meet as strangers I cant set you free So will you turn your back forever on what you mean to me? Don't answer me, don't break the silence Don't let me win Don't answer me, stay on your island Don't let me in Run away and hide from everyone Can you change the things we've said and done? Don't answer me, don't break the silence Don't let me win Don't answer me, stay on your island Don't let me in Run away and hide from everyone Don't answer me, don't break the silence Don't let me win Don't answer me, stay on your island Don't let me in Can you change the things we've said and done? I was 13, and I was in love. The deepest and purest feeling I have ever felt in my whole life. Fire in my heart, no less. That song was an important part of the soundtrack of that emotional "roller coaster". Every time I hear it, I evoke those moments, I feel goose bumps. Cheesy...? Yeah, sure, but I do not care. I feel still alive, no less.

I can't explain how, but the video lives up to the song. This is criminally good.

I've never seen the video until about a week ago. I'm old, 61 now, but remember when this song first came out. Sounds great decades later. ALAN PARSONS PROJECT --- A/P/P >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Great song. What a classic. I'm glad that I grew up in an era where music was actually good.

music is still good in this era, the thing is that people from every generation have a bias toward their preference of music or whatever was popular in that time. the people from my generation will always have a preference toward the music that came out during this era of music, that isn't to say that the music from before that was bad, because it definitely wasn't, much of it inspired and continue to inspire musicians from this era, but there's good and bad music in every generation, to say that the 1950's to 2000 was the only era when good music was released is very close-minded.

This is THE song I end karaoke nights with. End the show in a mellow way. Everyone leaves on a cloud. These songs are meant to be shared and performed by ordinary people like you and me. Never forget that.
