This is quite simply a musical masterpiece. Alan Parsons set the post so high on this works nothing quite matched it . This is the beautiful creation of a musical works at its best.

Both Debussy and Parson made an amazing contribution to this tale. I still get chills when I close my eyes and "read" the story in my mind's eye. It's got that way to make you feel apprehension, fear, terror and horror without having to use words.

Beautiful orchestral music by *Claude Debussy* from his unfinished opera "La chute de la maison Usher". That is what really gets all the likes.

+TinFiddler I wonder, the orchestral parts really don't feel like Debussy's style of writing (although, doesn't mean they're bad :p).

That's because Debussy never finished orchestrating this, and the orchestration was made by Andrew Powell, an actual member of Alan Parsons' Project. Brilliant work of his, in my opinion.

My fave album of all time and I never realised this is an unfinished peice by Debussy. The addition of orson Wells really enhances poes work. Always thought this should be put on the stage as a rock opera. Opening night... Halloween🦇👻

Poe's Short Stories: “The Fall of the House of Usher” (1839) If anyone can convert a written piece into a musical piece. Its Alan Parson. Even if the finale sounds Ligetti, sampling did not exist.... What a beauty. Im having a APP revival after a long long time! yt is more practical then switching vynils I do have even if I lose sound quality.tx 4 ul

This whole album should be played live exactly using all the original instruments including Rhodes piano and vocoders and synthesizer organ keyboards I especially enjoy the pavane fall of the house of usher in it's entirety when it gets to the drums and Synths. If you guys listen carefully there's a section where it sounds like the light saber from Star Wars 77' even though this album came out in 1976 so magical well made yet underrated. I robot would follow in 77 such a classic too.

Absolutely, awe-inspiringly, the best musical adaptation of the stories of Poe from the book of the same name ever ! Couldn't agree more. It is a shame it received such mixed and often poor reviews at the time of its release when it is clearly such a magnum opus and masterpiece of an album.

For me the best album everby this artist. The second side of the (vinil) album "The Fall Of The House Of Usher" is a real suite comparable to the classics of the past centuries. He should finish without that slight tail that, in my opinion, ruined the fierce apocalyptic atmosphere.

Music is nothing without context (to me anyways), thus just because debussy had wrote that particular passage, doesn't mean that it can't be alan parson's assuming they reuse it in a different context thus transform it. So yes it IS alan parsons

I enjoy this because I like soundtracks. As a stand-alone composition, well... I like the Orson Welles bit and someone knew how to write good orchestral bits. Kind of an odd composition to put on a normal album that isn't a soundtrack or a purely classical effort, but it is appropriately creepy and I like it regardless of who actually wrote it. Perhaps a bit long for what it is, but then, soundtracks can drag on and still be enjoyable. And yes, I realize this is not a soundtrack, that is kind of my point - it plays like one, which is what makes it so odd.

I remember this well back in 76 I remember having headphones on while friends were playing monopoly game and drinking during winter I'm not share what song it might be this or any of the others but when I looked over the game seem to be taking a turn and they were all laughing and the table was tipped over monopoly pieces and money all over the place

So I do. But at last Welles quotes Poe himself and adds something to this work. What I can´t get over is the added synthesizer tracks on songs like "The Tell-Tale Heart" or "The System of Dr. Tarr and Prof. Feather" on the "remastered" version of this album. Totally annoying on an otherwise perfect album.
