3 years after . . . this man is happy that Alibaba is indeed a very potent force in the world. Last year's singles day sales (on 1 day) is $18 billion and this was a huge figure for a single day.

Well presentation and extremely informative in structural flow. This awesome video reveals what our business needs to know about chinese e-marketplace, the trend of local e-commerce vs global e-commerce and the execution for the big picture point of view. I dont think this was too long. I wish to have more ppl can follow what Jim tomkins had done. Spreading around the positive energy to the world. Everything you think and do creates energy. We still learning how to create positive energy for positive change in our life. Good luck!

this video is done superbly . But when you think how to counteract against Alibaba in US, you need to exactly what Jack Ma said, you need to focus on the market after 15 years later while Jack Ma is busy executing Alibaba's strategy in US . Whatever strategy you figure out right now as the reaction to Alibaba in US, that will never work . Alibaba spent 15 years to strategize their approach US market.

A couple of years ago frustrated with the LED selection from my wholesalers, I went in seach of products on the Internet and came across the national US brands. After informing them that I would look to purhase a large order for a multiple building T12 to LED conversion, I was referred back to the channel. Different products were in different channels. Then I came across sites like Alibaba and searched out products with the features that I was looking for. As a result, and through due diligence, I started to converse with various manufactures of quality, and vetted products and maintain regular contact with their cheerful and very pleasant representatives. In the US, manufactures need to flatten the distriubtion channel and open up the process to smaller businesses willing to purchase smaller runs. I am now expanding my product line beyond LED lighting. The next part of the Alibaba story will be shipping. I currently use DHL, and have done a shipment by sea, I am also currently exploring more options for sea shipments, but trust has been an issue on both sides of the continent. As far as language being a barrier - has anyone tried to phone a large company and reached a customer service representative these days?

Ive lived in China for over three years. One point he forgot to mention is that m-commerce will change e-commerce as much as e-commerce has changed the brick and mortar shopping trend.. Alibaba has a bright future ahead and it will be interesting to see how they will integrate globally and affect retail..

You talk about how i need this and that? I need nothing! I live very frugally, walking to stores to purchase fresh produce 2-3 times /week. I leave no carbon footprint to harm my earth mother. I pollute nothing/nobody. I am retired. Who are you trying to convince of being needy? I like the Honorable Mr. Jack Ma! If he desires my aid, or knowledge, I will help him any way that I can. Freely! You guys speaking of my needing something, are boasting, & that is much more difficult to honor than promises.

Don't have to buy Alibaba when everyone else is liking it so much that the price-per-earning and market cap are so high. Many bought over $100 a share, and a few of my friends bought at $110-plus a share, only to see that the share prices come back down to $85-88 a share when investors finally calm down and digest all the reasons for excitement surrounding Alibaba's IPO. Now, Topkins spokesman here talks about vast amount of delivery for Alibaba everyday. Think about it people. What does this mean? We don't have to chase Alibaba with an over $200 billion market cap. And delivery means using trucks, cars and drones. Look at the trend for cars, trucks and drones. They are becoming autonomous in the future. Now, if you still follow me, you see what I am getting at. Without giving you the name of the company, I will end my hint here.

I just saw on your video Jack Ma's kungfu name Feng Qing Yang. Feng Qing Yang (from the novel Smiling Proud Wanderer) was the one who taught the protagonist, Lin Huchong, the invincible "9 solitary strokes" (of swordplay). Or you could google "The legend of the swordsman" or "Swordsman" starring Jet Li on the part when Feng Qin Yang taught the swordplay to Lin Huchong.

Actually I had a friend who runs business on TaoBao since 2010. As a student in China, what she did what was to drop off from college and started the business by using her mother's money. Four years from now, she becomes very rich. (Richer than most middle class in China.) She primarily sells makeup stuffs online, and needs to have stable relationship with deliver services. However, she told me that "over 1/3 of the product on TaoBao was fake, and that was a business secret everyone needs to keep when you do business on TaoBao. And the quality of those product was terrible, which made in China of cause.

@Xind08989 жыл бұрын
Hong rui Zhang yea fake product is huge problem but not caused by Taobao, its one of the problem faced by the whole china consumer market. recognising the problem is the first step towards solving it, Chinese people should just learn that cheap price does not not only equals bargain but shit quality too. (but who doesn't love good quality counterfeit product LOL)
@Sigliry9 жыл бұрын
and who doesn't know the success of " jingdong", another online shopping market right after taobao in China, due to its fame for good quality stuff and less fake goods. Please rethink what you said...

Without amazing products, you need a lot of effort to browse for information to "buy" and "sell" for a profit. There will always be amazing companies that are unknown that product reasonably good products (from China, since it is low cost) that you could buy in bulk and then sell them to oversea markets. A little extra needed would be to visit some of these factories/manufacturers so that you could establish longer relationships and also to have a more secure feel about how the products are made and understanding them. One of my friends is doing this and most of the items that he got for his clients (some of his clients are big companies) are big items costing around $50,000. He made more than 10% from some of these transactions. Of course, credibility is another important thing. His clients trust him (he is Singapore based) and sometimes the corporated clients need a local person to service when there are problems (like machines instead of having to turn to the Chinese manufacturer). I started differently nearly 30 years ago. As many American companies moved to Asia in the 80s and 90s, I served as the middleman to support the American/western corporations in their needs for good quality suppliers. In a word, my company served as a trading company, buying from manufacturers and selling them to the corporations. What these huge corporations needed was huge quantity of the highest quality and I was getting businesses to the tune of millions of dollars per month. With such high turnover, I could afford to charge very low "profits" like between 5% to 10% (sometimes much less and on occasions much higher like more than 50% for unique one-off transactions). In this way, my company (very small company of less than 10 employees) could make profits of more than $1 million in the past. As the market became more competitive, we stopped trading and bought shares in some of the best most reliable manufacturers. Business model have to change with times.

Living in China, I used Alibaba/Taobao since they started. Alibaba's Achilles heel is mobile. People still access most Alibaba group sites on their PC's. Tencent is killing them on smartphones img.qz.com/2014/06/china-s-most-popular-apps-may-2014_chartbuilder.png?w=1200

Tracy Greenwood to use the best of Tencent, download Wechat on your phone. It's something like Line in Korea/Japan but a much more capable software. Very intuitive. The issue is that ecommerce functions are still only in China as far as I know. Facebook is watching WeChat like a hawk. Most agents that are succeeding selling real estate to Chinese buyers use WeChat for all communication

The tech sector has always been volatile. Like Jack Ma said, "Do not fear competition if you're in business". He should be astute enough to do something about it if it is threatening Ali's business model.
@AufBerghofNAM10 жыл бұрын
Yi Jiun where did he say that? do you have a link?
@AufBerghofNAM10 жыл бұрын
the mistake tencent have made is that they have taken their focus off retail and onto apps their wechat program has made some decisions wrt partnerships that are ruining it's business, especially outside of china. major concerns over the lack of innovation at tencent; esp the lack of innovation that may be down to their broadly defined vision.
