This was supposed to be an EPIC adventure and though it didn’t work out quite how I imagined it would, it was still a great trip and I’m sure I’ll be doing this again.
Be sure to check out the sites below who have inspired me to 'get out there' and do a bit more with myself.

I agree on the drink. I learned a very valuable lesson on that weekend. Mostly that as you get older your ability to recover from excess alcohol is greatly diminished. I'll be sticking with water next time.

I'm going camping this weekend and I've been battling with myself weather to bring a few bottles of wine because I'm not the best with hangovers. But reading this now I've made my decision. No alcohol 🤣🤣🤣

I'm going with the theory someone chopped all the trees down to make fires before I got there. :)

Hi, this was a public campsite. Do a web search for 'Lee Valley Almost Wild' and you should get their website. The last couple of times I went it was a bit noisy so I've not been again.

Hi, yes, it is a pay site. If you google search for Lee Valley Almost Wild Campsite you will find their booking site and pitch fees. It is a seasonal site, so only open from Spring through to Autumn.

Hi Dave, Does Lee Valley provide toilet and shower for customers in Broxbourne Campsite please ?

Hi, the Almost Wild campsite I stayed at in this video has two 'composting' toilets which are a lot nicer than your average portaloo. There are no shower facilities, but you do have access to a tap with fresh water. You are also right next to the river, so a quick dip is always an option. Just be mindful of the usual care that should be taken if wild swimming and keep an eye out for boats. I usually take a collapsible bucket and fill it with hot water for a good wash down and a shave in the morning.

Hi, Look up Lee Valley 'Almost Wild' Campsite. It's in Broxbourne. www.visitleevalley.org.uk/en/content/cms/where-to-stay-and-short-breaks/lee-valley-almost-wild-campsit/ They have a limited opening season and I think bookings finish at the end of September so be quick if you plan to go this year. At the time of typing this it costs £12pp per night and there is a minimum age limit of 12yrs (accompanied by an adult) due to the proximity of the river and all that H&S stuff. Like most rivers in this country, the River Lee does require a 'license' to paddle on it. There are one day, one week and one month licences along with a 30 day explorer licence which allows 30 separate day tickets within a 12 month period. These are issued by the Canal and River Trust and I subsequently learned they can be booked, in advance, online. I think with all the excitement we forgot on our one day, but had we been stopped and asked we would have happily paid. Also you can book Canadian style canoes from several places nearby if you don't want to take your own boat. I think daily hire is about £30-35 and includes the license for the day. For info, a short drive from the campsite are two large big name supermarkets, so if you do run short of supplies you don't have to worry. I am absolutely going back next year and if it is just the camping bit you're interested there's another place I have my eye on. Church Farm in Ardeley (SG2 7AH) - Look for them on FB. I think they are open most of the year too. I hope that helps you out. Who knows, we may even bump in to each other.

Hello Matt, It's in Broxbourne, a few miles north of the M25. Link to their official site bellow: www.visitleevalley.org.uk/lee-valley-almost-wild-campsite I believe they are planning to re-open from 17th May this year (2021) and are taking bookings on their site now. I missed my chance to go last September when a member of my household tested positive for covid and I had to self isolate. I was booked in, all my gear packed and had to cancel a couple of days before I was due to go. Gutted. Really hope to visit there again this year.
