In the previous episode we started from the northeast border of Salento to discover all its coasts and we arrived to acquaviva, shortly after castro. Now our journey continues south, continuing from Marina di Andrano.
The Andrano Marina, extended for about 3 km of cliff, includes the area called "Torre" and the area called "Botte". The two areas are connected by the "Lungomare delle Agavi", a path close to the sea
Tricase Porto is known for its processions at sea in honor of Santa Teresa, the fourth Sunday of May and the much more famous Feast of Saint Nicholas, plus with fireworks, on August 13th. A little further on, after the carmine cave, you come across the Rio del Canale. Marina Serra: The coast is characterized by a rocky coast, full of small coves, frequented by tourists as well as by the inhabitants themselves, and very suggestive caves, often only accessible by sea.
Before reaching Novaglie, you can go down, thanks to some steps, to admire the canal of the gatehouse.
The stretch of coast on which Novaglie stands is full of natural caves.
The high and rocky coast continues, passing through the Ciolo gully. Absolutely to be followed is the ciolo path and the small pebble beach under the bridge. Most of this stretch of coast to the southeast can be visited only by sea, but it is worth it to get ready to visit it.
There are many caves, such as the galategghiu cave, before arriving at Santa Maria di Leuca and the groups of caves: of the rada, of the west and of the east.
The monumental waterfall is not always put into operation, so you need to inquire at the tourist office.
A little further west, after the port, there is Punta R Restola and this is the southernmost tip of Salento.
from here, going northwards the rocky coast begins to lower more and more, leaving also space for some small beaches, passing from marina di felloniiche and san gregorio, up to tower I go with its port, a postcard landscape… from the old place begins the beach, known as "maldives of salento".
Torre Pali is one of the numerous sighting towers. At the time of construction the tower was on the mainland but due to sea erosion it is now completely surrounded by the sea about 15 meters from the coast.
Further on Lido Marini. Torre Mozza. Then follows Torre San Giovanni, which is characteristic for its black and white checkered appearance. Near Red Place we find, the Bay of the devils and shortly after, the symphonic tower.
The coast is low and rocky and continues for kilometers. Passing from Torre Suda and Marina di mancaversa, passing Punta Pizzo and its tower, begins Gallipoli, a long sandy bay of about 7km, where halfway there is the samsara, a well-known beach-disco, and Torre San Giovanni La Pedata.
Gallipoli, with a coastline of about 20 km, is divided into two distinct areas: the historic center, which stands on an island of limestone and the new village, connected to the island by a bridge. Gallipoli is rich in history and culture. This is witnessed by churches and places of worship as well as civil architecture, such as palaces of Renaissance and Baroque origin, and military buildings, such as the Angevin castle, next to the ravelin, as well as the city walls and ramparts.
Near Gallipoli there are the island of Campo, the islet called de "Li picciuni" and the island of Sant'Andrea which, completely flat, covers about 50 hectares.
Like the others, Gallipoli is a milestone in the Salento journey. Continuing north, you pass by long stretches of sand in the towns of rivabella, padula bianca, lido conchiglie where the coast returns to be rocky.
We are in Santa Maria al Bagno, which with its small beach shows us a postcard inlet. Flying over the tip of the asp, you then reach Santa caterina, with its small beach and small port, before climbing to 50 meters above sea level towards its pine forest and the tower of the high, on a rocky spur overlooking the sea, almost to protect the natural park of Porto Selvaggio that extends uncontaminated for 432 hectares with a great variety of vegetation and that in its history has been saved from the clutches of privatization.
From Porto Selvaggio to Torre Uluzzo.
Continuing north, you can see the
marsh of the captain ... Passing from S. Isidoro and the squillace tower, you reach the coast of
Porto Cesareo, which is formed by two rivers.
Note the small heart-shaped islet nearby!
Then begins the long bay of Torre Lapillo, also with clear water, which ends with the tower of San Tommaso.
Continuing on, there are the towns of Torre Castiglione, Padula Fausto and Punta Prosciutto, which with its approximately 2 km of clear sand and turquoise sea ends the Salento's borders in beauty.
This land is wonderful, and must be respected.
