Nothing Lasts Forever, the Roderick Thorp novel that was cribbed for Die Hard, was published in 1979. This episode was aired in 1978. Thorp said that his inspiration was the Towering Inferno, but maybe he just didn't want to admit to watching Spider-Man.

I'd love to call this "Spider-Hard". Irving, my first thought wasn't really "Die Hard", but the book it was based on. "Nothing Lasts Forever" was published in 1979, a year after this episode came out. I don't know if there was cross-contamination between the writers. Heck, for all I know, both the writers of this episode and that book lifted the plot and certain things (like the plastic explosives on the roof) from yet somebody else. I love Spider-Man. I love "Die Hard". I accept this is what they could do with their budget, less than an hour of running time, and the practical effects they were limited to at the time. But I see this, and I also imagine what they could do if they remade the episode today, as a two parter. Either live action or animated. I see what it could be as well as what it is. They won't. Because everybody and their brother will claim they ripped off "Die Hard", regardless of the facts. Honestly, this is an episode I wish I had a full digital version. Lately I've been working with AI tools, especially with converting live action footage to AI animation. I've been amazed at the results. The are issues (notably cost and time), but I could see myself making a hybrid animated / still frame expanded version of this (yeah "Spider Hard"). I've been doing that for my current project to get through copyright claim, and it's worked out OK (though it's nowhere near the level of my original film).

Hmmmm...I'm not sure if the "Die Hard" people would even have seen this episode. According to IMDB it's the one episode that was never combined with another into a "Movie" or released on video. The movie was a thrill ride but this episode was a just plain old fun adventure! And I am impressed with the special effects---I saw this originally on a little black and white tv and I guess I thought they used a greenscreen. (I wasn't paying that much attention to it I guess!) I watched this in its original airing, but I did not remember the second theme song, and I'm a big fan of TV themes.

Good morning, Dave! Ellen Bry was also known for being a stuntwoman on occasion. Most notably, she doubled for Margot Kidder in at least one of the "Superman" films. I remember reading about her in Starlog Magazine. Also, one of the reasons CBS didn't fully commit to this series was because they were also the network presenting The Incredible Hulk and The New Adventures Of Wonder Woman, and word is they didn't want to be pigeonholed as "the superhero network", which is why they let this one slip away after such a short run.

A lot of good shows got canceled because they were deemed too expensive. "F Troop" and "Police Squad!" come to mind.

Season 2 is the theme I remember.
