Angkor Thom is the ancient city of the Khmer empire built by great Khmer King Jayavarman VII. This city was the administrative center of the ancient Khmer empire for almost 600 years, started at the early of 10th century when the Khmer empire ruled huge territories of the South- East Asian countries today.
There are many ancient temples construction inside Angkor Thom those were built by the many great Khmer kings from 10th to 13th century.
Bayon temple was the first Buddhist temple built at the end of 12th century by king Jayavarman VII and dedicated to Buddhism.
This temple had 54 towers that represented to 54 provinces of the Khmer empire back to 12th century. Each tower has 4 stone smiling faces of Budhha.
Bayon is one the most beautiful ancient temple in Cambodia, on the stone wall of Bayon temple there are many carvings that depicted about history of the Khmer empire, daily life of ancient people, building temple activities as well as sports and entertaining activities.
