It's great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there's no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

Yugi Muto When I first saw Tobey Maguire in the role, I thought, Here's the absolute perfect Peter Parker. When I saw Andy Garfield in the role, I thought, Andy's the most perfect. They're both great and they're both different. It's not like they cast the first guy off the street for these parts. People much smarter than I am about these things are casting these movies. They do a fantastic job.

toxinqwerty Although it might have been implied, I never said Tobey Maguire was a bad Spider-Man. I enjoyed his Spider-Man too. It's a shame that people seem to forget that Maguire wasn't the first actor to play Spidey. Nicholas Hammond portrayed him in the 70's and I enjoyed his portrayal too. I'm not trying to pick sides, I simply just made a comment based on what Stan Lee said with no intention of dismissing the other actors to play Spidey.

Tobey was like the classic spidey, and andrew is the modern ultimate spiderman. The reason raimi's spiderman declined was because he trapped himself in revolving around mary jane, whereas marc was smart to involve a lot more aspects of the spiderman lore, and leave a lot of room for future stories. But raimi deserves credit for bringing us 2 great spiderman movies, living in new york, he really gave us something to root for with awe.

This is exactly what I hoped for. Andrew Garfield is incredible as Spider-Man. He's absolutely perfect. He portrays Spider-Man exactly like in the comics. A wise cracking super hero with a sense of responsibility.

Absolutely, the main issues I had with the first movie were the character design of The Lizard and the story wasn't too interesting. The rest of the movie was great. Andrew's acting was great, the costume was great, the writing(for dialogue) was great.

I love Andrew as Spidey, he certainty becomes Peter Parker once the cameras start rolling. I never thought I would say this but I love him waaaaaay more in the role than I did Tobey Maguire and that is saying a lot because I never thought that would happen! I remember when they announced that they would reboot the Spiderman franchise, and many got pissed. But I got happy, because I never found Toby to be a good Spiderman. I think this guy nails the character, and to me this is the true movie version of Spiderman. Just as RDjr is Iron Man, and Hugh Jackman is Wolverine.

Back in 2010 I would spend most of my converstions (arguments, that is) defending Andrew on how and why he was cast as 'The Spiderman' for the next generation. Now everyone knows why! And By God,has he arrived! This movie is going to be big for everyone in it but more so for him!

Sony lol I have to say I respect what you're doing with Spiderman. The "go green" production of the film, the appearance that Spiderman takes a stance against bullying, at least that's what I got from when he dropped in when that kid was backed against the fence. I hope you guys keep doing things like this, Spiderman is an every man's hero. You shouldn't have to be falling off of a building for him to save you. The only other hero that does things like that is Superman to my knowledge, and people hated that he would randomly stop and save a cat from a tree.. But, that's made him a superhero to me, the fact that nothing was too big or too small. If you trip and smash your face while riding your bike and Superman is around to hear it or see it, he would fly over, pick you up, make sure you're alright and if needed take you to a hospital. Spiderman needs to be that kind of her, and the stance against bullies makes perfect sense because he was bullied. Now as Spiderman, he has the ability to take that stance when he can. The message this movie could send with bullies, and going green and any other important messages that could be thrown in could literally change the world in maybe the smallest possible capacity. But it's a start. So - Even if this movie turns out to be absolute trash. I will respect this movie for the messages it's sending.

I love Peter Parker History and his alter ego, because Spiderman, its a symbol to me, a hero, a real hero! He makes me to be responsable, and protector, i got love this movie because im waiting for him, im waiting for 17 years to see a movie like this! This, got make me cry! Because, its more than a superhero movie... its a life lesson! Its Spider-man!

Well, growing up the 1978 "Superman: The Movie" and the TV show "Smallville" had the same effect on me. Seeing the issues Clark had making the right decisions, having help from his parents and friends to make the hard decisions and in the end he made a lot of wrong decisions. Superman to me, is the symbol Spiderman is too you. I wish movies would stop making them out to be these warriors against evil, and make them out to be superheroes. People who got these amazing abilities and decided to use them to change the world, with Spiderman it can be bullying and with Superman it could be against war and the preservation of life as to Superman, at least in the 90's where I was born, life was the most precious thing in the universe and back then a cat was just as important as a man to him. But I superheroes at this point in time, have the ability to greatly impact the direction the world is gonna go. Because for the first time since their creation, they are now apart of our pop-culture in a bigger way and apart of mass media. I respect Sony for manipulating that knowledge. You can send an important message and still make a great superhero movie that respects the source material. You just have to know which hero makes the most sense to send a particular message.

Andrew nailed the personality and put so much into portraying what Spider-man was like in the comics but he lacks the strong build that Toby had and the suit was much better in the old trilogy. Really enjoying the new movies though!

I was never really against it. I was just pissed off that people kept bringing back the subject of Tobey Maguire's take on Peter Parker/Spider-Man. I mean, he did what he needed to do, but that franchise ended. So leave that alone. Pretty soon this franchise is going to end. Wonder what they'll say about this when they reboot Spider-Man again.....

William Morales That would just make him a good generic heroic character. Not a good Spider-Man. When portraying a character, you need to get their individual core aspects right, not just the fact that they fight for truth and justice and all that. Otherwise you could also argue Tobey made a great Batman.

Andrew was a great choice, he was sassy, cocky, funny, you felt sorry for him in the first movie and when he is such a fan to spider man it makes it much better. Tobey was good in the first two spiderman movies, but he was just too geeky and akward without the whole spiderman charm. I mean come on, Tobey wasnt a perfect spiderman and neither is Andrew, and none of the movies are perfect because thats never gonna happen. Nothing is perfect and flawless

What's so awesome about this movie is although they want to be safe that have a safety wire attached to him is they have actually have those gadgets he actually gets to literally swing around to have that whole spider man experience and it's just so awesome and that it's just a one in a life time experience makes it just amazing and they barely ever using green screen unless he's saving someone or fighting they don't use it like Gwen falling that's real of course they use stunt professionals for that stuff it's all legit which movies like captain America should learn off of and kinda leech off I have a feeling this franchise will go places

It seems as though people have forgotten that the scripts for movies like this and written for an actor to come in and portray it. It isn't about who played a character better because the actors are limited to the material they are given. They can't really ad-lib or anything so however good an actor is in a role comes from the material they are given and the character that has already been outlined for them. Just wanted to put that out there lol.

I like that Garfield gets the humour down but it looks like he might be bordering on the obnoxious in some of the scenes. I guess Spidey himself often is.
