in the comics while peter starts off as a nerdy awkward person, after getting his powers he quickly gains confidence, posture and poise and is a much cooler dude overall very quickly while his spiderman persona has always been a wise cracking joker using that to throw opponents off balance.

Actually, movie is actually way more closer to comic book Peter/Spider-Man. Yes, Peter is super nerdy and awkward as well as bullied often due to that. However, he isn’t your classic geek or isn’t seen as attractive. Peter was a good looking dude. It’s just that he was quite awkward and was more a loner than anything else. He kind of goes on his own path than later on becomes more confident when he gets his powers. As someone said, he is popular with the ladies and had a lot of girl friends/love interests. So a lot of ppl are more familiar and used to a more clumsy nerd Peter that tobey portrayed in his movies. But fails to understand that TASM series tend to follow more into the comic book lore. So the consensus from back then and even until now ppl find Andrew’s Peter way too chill and cool/skater boy not like tobey Peter, but Andrew is the best Spider-Man.
@KthulhuXxx

Also, he grew out of the majority of the super-nerdiness and awkardness pretty quickly. By the time he headed to college (after only 31 issues of the comic) he wasn't really anywhere near the nerd cliche that he had originally been.

You pretty much nailed it! The consensus seems to be that Toby McGuire was a better Peter Parker while Andrew Garfield was the better Spider-Man, and Tom Holland is the best balance between the two. Your channel is great by the way. We love it over here.

Tom became a great balance once the MCU stopped trying to make him into Iron-Lad. For five movies, most of his own trilogy as well as his supporting roles in the biggest crossover storylines, the made it out as if Tom was being set up to take RDJ's position despite Spider-Man being a very beloved and much more well known character long before the creation of the MCU.

I'm not a big comic book guy (I've read Watchmen, and that's about it. Most of what I know comes from popular culture and the Comic Tropes KZfaq channel.) but an easy explanation of the different movie versions is the different comic book versions. Because Spider-Man was a best seller, Marvel made a few different versions of the Spider-Man comic book series (The Amazing Spider-Man being one of them.) that had different editorial direction and that all ran concurrently.

Spider-Man has probably the best rogues gallery outside of maybe Batman and The Lizard is one of his greatest villains from the comics. Dr. Connors was played by Dylan Baker in Spider-Man 2 and Doc Ock mentioned him when he said that Dr. Connors told him that Peter was brilliant but lazy. Totally different character from the Green Goblin (Norman Osborn). You may have noticed that Gwen worked for Oscorp in this movie.

@ieyke
@ieyke 2 жыл бұрын
The movies aren't perfect, but Andrew Garfield is BY FAAAAAAAR the best Peter Parker/Spider-Man. In looks and personality and body build as both Peter and Spidey he's ripped STRAIGHT from the comics. And in terms of acting..... Garfield and Stone casually run circles around Maguir, Holland, Dunst, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Zendaya. Garfield and Stone were like lightning in a bottle. Utterly perfect in both roles. It's really the villains who let these movies down. The thing to understand about Peter Parker, is that he IS a super nerd, and early on in the comics he seemed super nerdy, and of course he was bullied by Flash Thompson. BUT, he's also actually super attractive. He just didn't have self-confidence or much athleticism, or coordination when he was a regular human. And of course he had sort of bad eyes and wore glasses. Getting bit by the spider fixed his eyesight made him super athletic and ripped, and gave him extreme grace and coordination. So suddenly he had this massive confidence to be what he wanted to be. That's the whole thing about Spider-Man, he's the nerdy little dude who always wanted to be cool and then he gets to be cool. He's that fantasy. But at the price of extreme tragedy constantly haunting his life. In the comics Spider-Man....he has more girlfriends than any other character with a normal human lifespan. Even more than Tony Stark really. And an INSANE number of them are models and supermodels. Mary Jane Watson is a supermodel/actress. Gwen Stacy is a scientist and also a model. And a lot of the other women he dates who aren't models are superheroes who could be models or supermodels if they wanted to be. Like Black Cat is so far beyond any supermodel that it's absurd. And Black Cat is basically his greatest love interest. The Catwoman to his Batman. Perfect partners kept apart by fate being shitty. - Mary Jane Watson - Gwen Stacy - Felicia Hardy/Black Cat - Bobbi Morse (AKA laura Barton)/Mockingbird (Hawkeye's ex wife) - Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel - Jessica Jones (was in love with him in high school) - Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat - Silvija Sablinova/Silver Sable - Debra Whitman - Betty Brant - Cindy Moon/Silk - Michelle Jones - Jill Stacy - Lian Tang - Michelle Gonzalez - Carlie Cooper - Cissy Ironwood - Jean DeWolff (was in love with him but got murdered) - Sarah Rushman/Marrow - Anna Maria Marconi (in love with Doc Ock possessing Peter's body) - etc etc etc.

The Tom Holland and Toby Maguire versions are better at capturing what Peter Parker was like in the early comics, when he was a high school student. The Andrew Garfield version is better at capturing what Peter Parker is like in more recent comics, when he's an adult and a bit less hapless.

Problem is that whole opinion is bullshit. Andrew is the most comic accurate Peter there is. People forget that Peter started out as an ASSHOLE in his first appearance. He was bullied, so you could understand why he had a chip on his shoulder, but he literally says at one point that the rest of the world excluding May and Ben can go to hell. It isn’t until learning with Great Power Comes Great Responsibility that he becomes a much friendlier, much more likeable person. Just like what happens with Andrew in this film. When people say Andrew wasn’t an accurate Peter is blows my mind

Originally on team Tobey, I've come to appreciate Andrew's work as well. Still irked they introduced his parents though. ... As for Uncle Ben, his death is iconic as Bruce Wayne seeing his parents killed, or the planet Krypton exploding. It's part of the story.

Not sure why three Spider-Man actors is baffling. There have been 5 James Bonds. There have been 4 Jack Ryans. There have been at least half a dozen Robin Hoods and Zorros. There have been seveal Hercules. There have been 3 Superman actors. Or look at Dracula or Frankenstein's monster. Classic characters get rebooted all the time throughout the history of cinema.

The rights of ownership of Spider-Man has been a plague for so many years. Sony finally obtain the rights and gave us the Toby Maguire Spidey. When Marvel was in transition of ownership from other licensed properties, Spider-Man was also moved around in the shuffle. "The Amazing Spider-Man" is the next phase of movies that was also supposed to be a trilogy but yet again, rights of ownership was in play. Now that the MCU became the new 'thing', Tom Holland is the latest Spider-Man. Rather than use Mary Jane Watson for this movie, they decided to use Peter's high school sweetheart, Gwen Stacy. Emma Stone was great in her role. I too enjoyed the Spider-Man swinging graphics as it felt so realistic as if I were swinging across buildings like him. I'm confident that you'll like the sequel as well. You should definitely watch Emma Stone and Anna Faris in their great comedy "The House Bunny". Also, here are two more classic films you should check out: 1) "The Adventures of Robin Hood" (1938) and 2) "Mister Smith Goes to Washington" (1939).

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone have fine chemistry, and the movie has some great moments, but it's spotty in terms of storyline. The backstory is unnecessary, and needlessly complicates the story; it's not at all part of the original comics, and obviously done for franchise purposes. The circumstances around Uncle Ben's death are done much better in Raimi's version, though Martin Sheen's performance is fine. Garfield's performance is terrific, but he took a lot of unfair heat at the time for the movie being so close to the Raimi trilogy. But he and Tobey Maguire wind up being vindicated. Stone's Gwen Stacy is a real improvement over the comic version, who really lacked much in the line of personality, serving only as a fairly generic love interest. The Lizard just doesn't compare as a villain to Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin or Alfred Molina's Doctor Octopus. Webb's choice to have so much of the movie take place in darkness is a serious downgrade from Raimi's bright, comic-book cinematography. And Raimi has a really distinctive style that suits Spider-Man well.

Long story short - after Spider-Man 3's lackluster reception, Sony decided to start fresh and reboot the series with Andrew Garfield. Eventually, the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies would meet a similar fate, and that's when they cut a deal with Marvel Studios to reboot Spider-Man again with Tom Holland, but including him in the MCU's continuity. So yeah, three different Spider-Men.

I had a problem with Garfield, he had a 'too cool for school' vibe that didn't square with the nerdy Parker. Like in the latest Batman, his alter ego and him are identical and easy to spot. I love Andrew Garfield! Wish they had given him more to work with, though. I like to imagine what the third movie would be like if they had listened to him and let him have Michael B Jordan as MJ. It really seemed like AG said "bi Spiderman?" And the studio shut him down immediately.

Watch Superbad for more Emma Stone. She's not a main character, but in it. Only if you need a lot of laughs though.

Peter Parker is always a teenager- The same actor cannot play the role through the years because he must appear young.
