Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is now at home within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but just a few years back Sony and Columbia thought they had it in them to launch their own standalone Spidey series with The Amazing Spider-Man starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. They were pretty wrong. The Amazing Spider-Man was kind of a weird movie involving questionable decisions like a giant lizard scientist, a pretty mean version of Peter Parker that made no efforts to hide his identity, a weird plot thing involving Peter’s parents and a whoooooole lot of unresolved storylines. How did this weird superhero movie come to be? Step in side the pitch meeting that started it all. It’s super easy, barely an inconvenience.

@@doomedbringer not really. Like, you do realize that Jar Jar Abrams is the one responsible for Luke being an irresponsible anti-social hobo, right? It was Abrams who set it up in TFA and Johnson had to roll with it. And I also prefer Johnson's messages of "your past and your family does not define you" and "anyone can rise to greatness" contrary to Abrams' "you are absolutely defined by your past and family" and "only those born in privilege can be great and everyone else can suck a dick".

fun fact: the "responsibility" line was actually accurate to the OG Comics! people know the line "With great power comes great responsibility" because that is what Peter Parker understands. The reason that everyone says that its uncle ben is majorly based off the Rami films I am not giving hate or criticising the amazing work of Ryan! i love Pitch Meetings and they are amazing. just stating a fact not alot of ppl know :) have a nice day

Though they made a lot of choices that seem to be small mistakes, I give them a lot of credit for making a gritty Spider-verse with real people with real complications. Unlike some people I can enjoy that realism.

It's one of the 2 things from the Raimi movies that I'd argue have gone on to be iconic in what know about Spider-Man, they other being the upside-down kiss (which afaik also the movies invented. and the comics have since then adapted).
