The Anastasia's mate is a checkmating pattern that arises with a Knight and a heavy piece (Rook or Queen), on the edge of the board. In this lesson, GM Gabuzyan shows exactly how this mating pattern arises on the chessboard.
Along with that, you'll also see some basic and advanced puzzles on this checkmating pattern. In the advanced puzzles, finding the Anastasia's mate is a little tricky. It often involves beautiful sacrifices to get the winning position.

Just a chess noob here, but I would like to point out that at 6:10 why would the black king go to H7 instead of simply have black pawn F7 take white knight on E6, making the whole white Anastasia's Mate setup falls to pieces, or am I missing something here?

The queen is giving check in that position, so fxf6 is not allowed
