The Kingdom of Benin was an ancient kingdom in what is now southern Nigeria.
In Benin city, the capital of Edo state, the Royal Bronze Casters Guild, which was founded in the 13th Century, lives on.
Hand-sculpted clay figures are transformed into bronzes using an ancient wax-casting process passed down through the centuries. Ashionye Ogene reports from the UNESCO world heritage site, Igun Street.

These bronzes are outrageous! This has got to be some of the best bronze work ever and they are still doing it. And Ashionye, how come you're not doing more videos? I'm transported back to the Era of the Gods when I look at you.

So the Europeans are "LOANING" Benin their own art? That's like saying "Maybe the guy off the street will ALLOW me sleep in my house tonight"🙄 They are really awful

I don't know if it's true, but Wiki states that : On 29 November 2022, it was announced that the Horniman Museum in Forest Hill, London had signed its Benin Bronzes back to Nigeria. The formal signing ceremony took place on the evening of 28 November 2022 in front of Nigerian royalty and other dignitaries. On 7 May 2023, the Bronzes were given to the Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, through a presidential decree, and effectively became his private property.

I got one on eBay!!!! And since most of us in America, Jamaica, are mostly Nigerian, with a little bit of mali , this is our history. Even if your dna test names small states on the border of Nigeria, back then it was all the same place . Sme with Mali. If gou get mali, and senigal , Gambia. Tht all just the mali empire. Fake borders just got made.

I’m glad these beautiful pieces are safe and well cared for where they are. I would hate to see them end up like the massive Buddha reliefs in Afghanistan.
