Garip Ay’s paintings come to life in the most extraordinary way. The Turkish artist uses an ancient technique called ebru, or marbling. He drops and flicks dyes onto water treated with a wetting agent that keeps the pigment from sinking. Then he swirls and shapes the vibrant colors into images that spring from his imagination. It takes a deft hand and special handmade tools to paint this way. Ay invites us into his studio in Istanbul to watch him create.

my mother is an artist (who focuses mainly on oriental paintings like Ebru and Minyatur). I used to have really bad nightmares in my childhood. I remember waking up at 3-4 AM from nightmares (about 9 years old, 14 years ago) and my mother was making this beautiful Ebru masterpieces when I woke up. I remember being soothed and amazed by the flow during the act of painting and sleep on her legs. It is like a balance between chaos and tranquility.

Amazing art And one more thing, I never knew Turkish sounded so awesome, its like french and Japanese mixed together for a first time listening. Not harsh like Arabic, very "smooth"
@rudra7615
@rudra7615 3 жыл бұрын
@Ahmed El-Mhemadawi I KZfaqd Fairuz, different to find but it is okay. I guess language and accents are subjective, as someone who doesn't know the language, first time hearing it.. To me there is alot of halting in the speech, its almost like water in a bottle and it is flowing yet you quickly tilt the bottle and the water halts and starts flowing the other direction, that's how it is to me. Now water is smooth, yet when you halt the flow and change direction, there are moments where the flow is interrupted, that's how I feel when I hear Arabic. Like I said it is subjective and this Turkish just was a shock, I didn't realise it was so smooth

This brings me back to when my mum would do this- We called it "Marbling" because of the effect it had on the paper. She just did it mindlessly, and it always turned out being so beautiful. She never aimed for something, like Ebru does, but it was a beautiful representation of colour.
