Elias' mouth doesn't move when he talks, so there's nothing to worry about when dubbing him in other languages - they don't have to worry about the words and timing not matching the movement of the character's mouth. I think the proper term for it called 'lip flaps', but I could be wrong.

And both find themselves in a world strange and unknown to them. Is that good?

And chise is fighting her own depression throughout it. She learns to be strong. and I think it transfers to the viewer too

You should really look into what aspects are making you happy. Then you can find more media that makes you happy and pinpoint where in your life the cause of depression is.

Check out Mushishi for another anime with a calm, yet powerful vibe.

Oh yeah, and the music .... I still find Hanezeve Caradhina - Made in Abyss to be the greatest/most beautiful anime song, but The Ancient Magus' Bride has a strong soundtrack as well.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't have the capacity for romantic feelings. *A slight spoiler:* The person who essentially mentors HIM basically just told him that a wife you marry is just someone who stays with you always. Throughout the series, he has very little if no romantic feelings or interest in Chise. They are still very close and emotionally connected, but not romantically.

The guy doesn't truly understand human relationships, marriage included. Somewhat spoiler: The person who taught him about human relationships told him that a wife is basically someone who lives with you and stays by your side.

Wendigo doesn't make sense. The show has been pretty clear that the creatures and spirits shown tend to remain relatively "region locked" to the area their myths originate from. For example, Chise was familiar with the various spirits she saw in Japan, but once in Britain she had no clue the nature of the creatures she saw. If I remember correctly, Lindel said he was in a fairly north-northeastern part of Europe when he found Elias walking through the woods. The Wendigo is a Native American myth, so unless Elias walked across half the globe to get to Europe, I doubt that's his classification. Personally, I'm more of the mind that he's some sort of Jinn. They can take various animal forms, can become shadow itself, and are known to be either malicious or benevolent, depending on their temperament. They also commonly take on an anthropomorphized form, but can't help but retain at least one or two animal traits (like his Markhor-like horns - an animal indigenous to the middle east) while in that form.

MadameDeForklift Elias’ entire backstory is somewhat odd and he does break a few rules, sense he is only part Fae and not fully. Now, regardless of what he is or was, how he ended up here is one of the greater mysteries surrounding him

Even if Yamazaki ever confirms this, it will end up being a very inaccurate portrayal of the wendigo, even calling elias a chimera makes more sense

His character design reminds me more of the Welsh Mari Lwyd.
