Sir, I just want to thank you for making all these very insightful lectures public. You stand out as a lecturer in that you are able to keep the listener's attention the whole time. I think that I have almost every lecture on your channel that I have not listened to yet on my "watch later" list. Again, your generosity in sharing your knowledge is very much appreciated. Thank you.

Confucius did of course also see that even in a relative meritocracy like his that corruption would inevitably build up with nepotism, causing a government to become less and less efficient until it could no longer govern, then it would lose 'The Mandate of Heaven' and fall to a new, hopefully better, government. Every (native Han anyway) dynasty that overthrew a previous one used this rhetorical device. This is quite similar to the theory on the cycles of civilizations based off complacent rot and subsequent rise of new rulers from outside the ruling class who have high group-solidarity in Ibn Khaldun's Muqadimmah from the 14th Century. Which reminds me...that in the future it would be great if you did a lecture on Ibn Khaldun.

fourtwenty fourseven hm, bastardized seems a bit harsh. He seems to be working on the level of the philosophical and psychological as he states. People keep trying to drag him into the political realm, but he applies the principle of least action there as much as possible

What is the basis for sorting out viewers' comments? It is unfair to remove comments in ad hock manner without any proper base and which are counter arguing some facts. It is not philosophy, isn't it?

The idea that Martin Shkreli is simply a "third-rate human being" is ill-informed groupthink. He certainly isn't a role model for me, but he has, on several occasions made good arguments for his company's actions and the neccesity of the massive price increase.

I had to I give you a thumbs down on this one. I think there is a huge difference between Confucius, and Confucianism(and things like neo-confucianism.) Confucianism is something that has gone astray. Even Confucius wasn't perfect in his ideology. You pointed out the Prime Minister of China as being Confucius, most likely. But this same person chastising the nobility around him for having poor character, is the leader of a party that killed 3/4ths the amount of ppl that died in WWII. On top of that, he then appointed himself Prime Minister for the rest of his life. Thereby negating a democratic voting system. Confucianism still oppresses a lot of Asian women today, even in their own families...So, you're not painting a realistic picture here with your favouritism of Confucianism. Supposedly Confucius himself saw himself as a failure because he never became the right hand advisor of an emperor. That's classically Confucius. There's lots of great things about Confucius, but Confucianism is very much a total FUBAR.

I was wondering why anyone would thumb this lecture down, so thank you for explaining yourself. You missed what he said entirely if that is still your take from this lecture. He clearly points out the difference between the man and the movement. He said the speech that the PM gave was that of Confucian ideology and how shocking it would be for the politicians from the US to have made that same speech. He in no way shows favoritism towards Confucianism, rather the informational ideology behind it and clearly poses the question; what if humans actually lived by these guidelines and principles of morals and education, valuing art expression, etc and how different our world would be. Thumbing down this lecture because of a simple lack of comprehension should be reconsidered and even possibly rectified.
