I'm a mailman and I would've kept your mail until you cleared the box. You would've caved.

The only thing they would’ve gotten from me that day is a notice about keeping the area around the box clear of obstacles. That person went above and beyond.

Carriers are not obligated to leave their truck deliver your mail at all when your box is not accessible, in fact, it's discouraged for safety reasons, so you ought to be glad he took the time to deliver your mail that day. Rather than blocking your mailbox, put your carts at the end of your driveway, and move them when you get home, like you should be, anyway.

Haha!! I do the same thing, except I put the trash can in the middle of their driveway so maybe they can get the hint to put their trashcan somewhere else.

If the truck that empties those carts is anything like the one that empties mine, it has an arm with a mechanism on the end that grabs the carts, lifts them up, and dumps them into the truck. I suspect it could still reach the carts even if they were moved back a few feet onto the curb, and not block access to the box. If they're emptied manually by guys riding on the truck, the same thing could apply; they'd just have to walk a couple extra feet to get the carts, again not blocking access to the mailbox.

im a mailman and i see nothing wrong with what this carrier did. they are doing their job. fucking dont block your mailbox and be glad you got your mail.

Yeah I would of been holding all of that mail, we're are under enough pressure as it is on time. Lol that's very annoying when people do that without thinking

also, my route has about 1050 (1052 exactly...) stops, and takes 7 and a half hour to complete on a normal day. if everyone hinders my way by just 1 or 2 meters, thats more then 1 extra kilometer per day. Just to put things in perspective, since people don't seem to realise that part.

I guess these people did not realize you are required to keep the path(30feet) to your mailbox clear. Cars, snow and yes garbage cans. Really, use some since, the garbage man can get your can from anywhere on the street, your mailbox is planted in the ground!!

I actually do this aswell. But thats when people place their trash cans infront of their mailbox, forcing me to move it, in order to deliver the mail. Sorry guys, but I am NOT the garbage man, I do not enjoy playing around with your garbage, so please find a better place to put it, then right infront of the mailbox. if the trash is hindering the way to the mailbox, I don't push the cans into the driveway, I freaking place them in the middle of your driveway so that you have to go out and move it. had you only placed your trash a few inches further to the left, they wouldn't be hindering the mailman doing his job. With that beeing said, this wasn't so bad. People around here tend to put the trash so that I can't even open the mailbox without having to move the trash.

Wow every mailbox that can be seen on cam is blocked by a trash bin. That is messed up. I don't know if that entire cul-de-sac is doing this purposely because of the mailman, but if they are, then that is extremely messed up. They should be fortunate that he is still delivering the mail. Mail carriers aren't required to deliver to blocked mailboxes.

That wasn't close to angry, but he was definitely annoyed! Trash day for a mailman is irritating. Just think about driving from box to box having to get out of your own car over and over. It's irritating.

I'm a mail carrier and a floater, which means I carry five different routes per week on the days that the regular carriers are scheduled off. So I carry all different kinds of routes. There are walking routes, where you see the mail carrier park at the end of the block and walk an entire loop while carrying the mail. There are business routes, cluster boxes where the mail for an area is all delivered to one place, like in apartment complexes, and drive-off splits like this one. Of course many routes are a combination of the above types. Drive-off means that you don't have to get out of your truck: the mailboxes are situated so that we can stay in the truck with the door open and put the mail in the box quickly. This is taken into account when adjusting routes for length. It's faster to drive-off than it is to dismount so on drive-off splits you are giving more stops to complete. For dismount deliveries you have to shift into park, curb the wheels, and shut off the engine, THEN get out and deliver the mail. This takes longer and is a pain in the ass: we have a limited time to complete our routes. If you have to dismount for what are supposed to be drive-off mailboxes, it causes your route to be longer and can get you hassled by management. I don't mind when I have to hop out once in a while but some people are ALWAYS blocking access to their mailboxes. Maybe that's the situation here: we don't know what happened on previous days. If I were him I might just withhold the mail and write "MAIL RECEPTACLE BLOCKED" and the date on it, and deliver it the next time the mailbox was not blocked.

The person who is filming this seems to be trying to troll their mailman. I would have kept moving. Sometimes when people are that ignorant I will exit my mail truck and line all the trash cans up blocking their driveway so when they get home from work they have to exit their vehicle to move the cans to be able to get their car parked in their driveway. There are some incidences where people just have no other option but to place their trash cans in front of their mailbox. In that case I will exit my mail truck to deliver their mail. But once the trash picks up the trash can they need to remove it. I am not going to make someone choose between getting their trash out or getting their mail. That’s a bad mailman. But there are also shit customers too.

You frustrated got out of car like carrier do. Mail carrier have right to skip your mail if the mailbox is blocked by trash can. It is grace for carrier to get off LLV and delivery mails. Sometimes, they are forced by management that doesn't allow them to skip any mailboxes that blocked. It also depends on neighbor like short curb distance between two houses. But you should make some kind of agreement with your neighbor to figure out the best place to put trash cans. For example dead end with 6 houses have 6 mailboxes. Maybe can put all trashes into 2 locations and blocking 2 mailboxes instead blocking 6 mailboxes which make things difficult for carrier.
