Richie and Sydney have had this animosity for the whole season and typically it's like "eff you" and stuff then Richie said Sydney blew someone to get that good review. He basically said the thing she's passionate and insecure about (cooking and her food) aren't good enough to stand on their own to the point where she had to resort to sexual favours so she went for what he loves and is insecure about; his daughter. The stabbing was a mistake though
@LadyScaper
@LadyScaper 9 ай бұрын
Not to mention Carmy inadvertently backed up Richie by saying the reviewer was a hack. So, it’s not that Sydney’s food is good, the review just has bad taste. Carmy clearly was mad at her about her “not ready” dish over shadowing all his work. Also, Carmy getting Richie to help Sydney with the giardinera was not a good idea considering Richie sexually insulted her the moment he saw her. 😬

It was released on Hulu so no ad breaks during the episodes. And the Emmy's they just won a few weeks ago in Jan 2023 are for season 1, the eligibility period for nominations was June 1st, 2022 and May 31st 2023 which was before season 2 was released (June 22nd 2023) so only season 1 episodes were considered for the 2023 Emmys.

I was with Sydney fighting back against Ritchie. He’s been antagonizing her ever since she’s been there, but she did not need to go after his kid. Low blow. Think the rest is spot on. Both Sydney and Carmy were in the wrong. At first I thought Sydney shouldn’t be so mad but after rewatches I do see Carmy piles stuff on Sydney and gets mad at her more than he should, which is unfair to her. But Sydney needs to know to be patient and accept things take time. Marcus was just in the wrong though, but it’s heartbreaking to see his work get thrown aside. He’s so passionate, I hope that’s not gone next season.

Which is still Syd's fault, no matter what way you look at it. She's holding the knife in such a way where an accident like that can happen. You don't brandish the knives in an open space, facing forwards, for this exact reason. If you're handling them, you're to hold them facing down, dull edge out to limit the risk, if you're handling them at all, which should be mininmal if you aren't using them. Then, there's the the fact she didn't call 'knife'. She's already not called 'corner'. As much a piece of shit that Richie is, if I were Syd, after the corner fiasco I WOULD be calling out as much as possible for the rest of that shift. To own it. She has a knife, in close proximity to him after he's left station and returned. Call out 'knife'. All in all, the fact is Carmen amusingly sees the context of "you probably fucking deserved it", which is why I think it's such a comedic wound to his ass cheek. But, it's still all on Sydney there.

I feel like people hold Sydney to a higher standard than everyone else. Richie kept antagonizing her and she started saying stuff back. The stabbing was an accident though. I get why she left. Carmey failed as a leader. He was speaking to her crazy and put a bunch of stuff on her and when she made 1 mistake (and everyone else did way worse), she was yelled at for it. Carmey lost his shit then so did Sydney. Also, it's funny how both Riche and Tina are dealing with jealousy towards Sydney but, Tina eventually tries to learn and change while Richie is still stuck in his ways and getting in the way.

@@brachypelmasmithexactly. And depending on the time of the reviews publishing it’s also likely that it led to many of the preorders that were coming in. Is it unfair to force her to shoulder that burden alone? No. It was ultimately two unfortunate mistakes that compounded in a way no one could have expected. However, her refusal to accept any fault with her “this isn’t on me.” comment just doesn’t sit well with me, because I’m the type of person who if I have even just a little bit of work left at the end of my shift, I’d rather stay a bit extra to finish it rather than leave it unfinished, but again, that’s just how I am and thus it shapes the way I view it.

I feel like this is really Carmy's fault. Instead of leading the restaurant he is been pushing all of the responsibilities on Sydney trying to get emotional/mental and personal relationships together. @jordancharles8598

@iceman10129
@iceman10129 Жыл бұрын
Completely disagree. Carmy told her the dish wasn't ready, she serves it to a customer. Carmy tells her the online ordering is not prepped, she rushes it, forgets a crucial part and they get slammed with orders. She starts an altercation with another employee trying to assist her. She then stabs that employee. Then when she is given the order to try and salvage the disaster she walks out. 1000% on Sydney and she doesn't deserve to be in the kitchen. Its not the job for her. She doesn't have the mental game for it. From being over eager, to pushy, to impatient, its how people get hurt. You should only have to be told once not to walk in front of the airplane engine.
@LadyScaper
@LadyScaper 8 ай бұрын
I was listening to some chefs reacting to The Bear, and they said young chefs tend to be impatient. Sydney’s character type is accurate down to her headband. Apparently lots of female chefs in culinary school wear them. Also, a couple of incidents that happen to Sydney happened to one of the chef consultants. She is the show creator’s sister, Courtney Storer. She did drive for UPS and did spill a huge container of expensive veal stock, by refusing help. One chef interview, he did say he experienced when someone left pre-orders on. What is with this software? These writers are amazing, writing from experience when so many chefs can identify with the show.

Richie may have been calm this episode, yes, but he is still a huge dick. If he wasn’t “cousin” Richie he wouldn’t have a job. Richie threatening to quit is EXTREMELY different than the two who walked out. The threat to quit is holding your job over everyone else. You can either help or add to a fire and he adds to the fire BIG TIME. Furthermore, Richie is the manager of The Beef- it is his responsibility as the manager to double check things the staff does, like the application set-up. I have worked in restaurants for YEARS- and seen many people and many attitudes. The only one who would not make it in any kitchen from this show is Richie. There is NO room for arrogance, stubbornness or shade in any restaurant. The first time he threatened to quit, he would’ve been fired immediately.

Richie is “calm” because he knows he has the latitude that he does not expect Sydney to have. So when she dishes out an ounce of what he gave, he couldn’t take it. Most of them turned into the mean abusive chef from Carmy's past when it got tough in the kitchen. Especially Sydney and Carmy. Marcus just loves donuts 😂
@SteadFast411
@SteadFast411 Жыл бұрын
Nah there's a distinct difference. With the chef from Carmy's old job, it was abusive with absolute intent. Vindictive. It was a mixture of him pushing Carmy to be a better chef at the expense of any morality and empathy - effectively wanting Carmy to be a cooking machine, not a person. That, probably mixed with jealousy as Carmy was the one seemingly renowned in that kitchen. Whether the other chef was or not, I don't know, but the way Carmy is described, it appears he was at least the front facing prodigy in New York. With Carmy and Syndey here, it's different. Carmy is in crisis mode. He even starts the shift quite amicable. He's taking stock in a pretty straightforward manner. He has reseverations about Syd's risotto, but that's it. On a normal shift, he'd have probably held back on bringing it up. Then it starts. Carmy's done what so many kitchen managers/restaurant owners/managers have had to do, go into full control mode. If you have experience in a scenario where you can at least deal with a portion of the problems your staff have created around you; you're coached to do that. No negotiations. No second opinions. No debate. We do things the way the manager says. In this sense, Carmy IS being like the other chef, his team is now purely just an extension of him, to follow order. But, this was born out of a crisis he wants to steer them out, not out of malice to upset them. Unfortunately, Carmy himself fails here in several instances, and has been slowly setting up his own downfall all season by slowly leaning on Syd too much, too fast. When the shit hit the fan, he'd set up too many pitfalls for his kitchen without even knowing it. With Syd, it IS all vindictive - to Richie. Who, let's be real, has been a consistent aggitator to her. Unless we see more of Carmy and his old kitchen, I'm gonna have to just assume he and that mean chef do not have the same type of bad relationship as Syd and Richie. Carmy seemed to completely comply to that abuse. Syd's behaviour to Richie isn't justified, but it's certainly easily understood. Then there's the other issue with Syd. She IS inexperienced and impatient. Carmy literally said this to her. And her previous employers too. So when things go BAD, she IS trying to take ownership, but she's also looking to deflect or find someone, something else worse so she can at least take control of that. A Syd 10 years older would likely have handled all this better, hell, she's carrying so much less baggage that a Syd 10 years more experienced would probably smoke Carmy in this particular sitaution. As she has been the one inspiring the other chefs. But this was a massive failure. That doesn't make her the same kind of cruel, or sadistic as that chef in New York.

You guys know most actors of this caliber come from theater right? Where you’re on stage for three hours? Yes a long take is complicated but that’s why casting matters. You have to do it right, just like live actors on stage have to do it right, every show, 8 shows a week. It’s not an easy job. It’s work. Theater people work hard. We love it but it’s not easy.

FUCK Sydney and Marcus so hard for their behavior in this episode. QUITTING in the midst of chaos THEY DIRECTLY caused is so pathetic I lost all respect for them in this episode. Well I guess you missed what was actually happening then. Sydney is not responsible for managing Carmen’s unprocessed emotions. Carmen had been enacting performance punishment on Sydney all season. Carmen took his unprocessed emotions out on the staff and Richie sexually harassed Sydney along with being on her nearly the whole season. Like…do people actually watch the whole show? This episode didn’t happen in isolation. There was a lot of build up. There is so much “it’s all her fault” and “see what she made him do?”Thank goodness this show is different. God forbid, Sydney values her dignity. Carmen and even Richie realize their mistakes and value her dignity in the end too. If only that happened more in real life.

@@LadyScaper I watched the whole show. More than once. To assume I didn't just because I don't agree with you is pathetic. I never said Sydney is responsible for managing Carmen's emotions. She is absolutely responsible for the crisis that was going on that day though. SHE caused that by accidentally leaving pre order open. No one else. HER mistake caused the crisis and rather than woman up and handle her own damn emotions (overwhelm) she just quit. Pathetic and so unfair to everyone else who works there. What the hell is performance punishment? Y'all are so victim minded it's crazy. And I'm sorry.. WHAT?? Richie SEXUALLY HARASSED Sydney?? What the hell are you talking about? 🤣 I know this episode didn't happen in isolation. I know Carmen played a part in the tension build up and lost his shit. He lost his shit because his employee made a HUGE mistake that caused a nightmare scenario. Doesn't make it ok. But it absolutely doesn't mean that Sydney isn't still at fault for the crisis. And ya, Carmen apologizes in the end because he's actually a decent person who knows how to take responsibility for his actions. Unlike Sydney and Marcus. The fact that they never apologized back to him for their part in the situation was another reason why I lost an immense amount of respect for both of them. Sydney was a perfect example of the problems of this younger generation. Claim more responsibility and ability than she can actually manage, cause a crisis, and then refuse responsibility and play the victim. She should have womaned up instead of babied down. She should have helped with the crisis she created and then had an adult conversation with Carmen about the way he was acting after. Sydney was pathetic all around in this situation. It is what it is. And don't even get me started on Marcus. Totally oblivious to reality, thinking the whole world revolves around him in that moment, not paying attention at all to his team and what they need from him. Just fuck everyone else only what I'm interested in in this moment matters. 🙄🤦

She explained very clearly why she left. Carmy is the owner and the chef, but he put all the responsibility on her. She was managing the kitchen, and she set up the to go system. Not exactly a job for someone who was recently hired, she is only an employee, not the owner. Sydney said before that the only time she didn't have a psycho yelling at her was when she had her own business. Obviously, she didn't choose to work in a sandwich shop over a renowed restaurant to be yelled at by a psycho. Sydney isn't irresponsible. She made a mistake. Like Marcus did before, like Carmy did before, like Richie did before. You guys don't love Sydney.

@@kassiogomes8498 can totally understand that and i do 100% believe Carmen was putting too much on Sydney but at the end of the day it was her mistake and everybody else had to pay for it. of course carmen was gonna lose his shit with all this coming down on him 10 mins before opening an already stressful day and is gonna be yelling because at this point everhone just needs to be in go mode. it doesn’t matter who you’re mad at and whose fault it was, all that matters is getting through the day because the fuck up already happened and they gotta follow through. it was not the time for petty arguments and wasting time and for sydney to quit after she caused that mess is fucked up. of course she didn’t do it on purpose but she could’ve quit literally the day after. instead she left everyone in this fucking mess whether she meant to or not. or whether ultimately carmy was at a fault for putting the responsibility on her or not. plus, sydney has been extremely impatient since the beginning, and obviously i know she’s genuinely just trying to be helpful but she doesn’t know when to just shut up and do her job. she does a ton of extra shit that carmen didn’t ask her for and then gets mad when he doesn’t have the time to greenlight her ideas just yet or doesn’t think they’re ready. it’s a bad situation all around but sydney shouldn’t have left when she did. they could’ve worked things out later.

@@RenaissanceK she can leave whenever she wants. She doesn't own Carmy anything. She is just an employee. It's his shop and he is responsible for running it. And why are you guys so concerned about her mistake? They had worse things than too many clients before this. Richie drugged children, Marcus almost made them lose everything they had in the refrigerator, and Carmy downgraded their sanitary rating. Acting like Sydney forgetting to click in a button on a website is the ultimate capital sin is ridiculous. Carmy hired an overqualified cook to be his sous, didn't listen to anything she had to say, and threw her to the wolves. He is lucky she stayed that long.

@@kassiogomes8498 of course she can leave whenever she wants, anyone can. it was still fucked. and i’m not saying her messing up the to go orders was a “cardinal sin” or even the worst thing any of them have done, i just said the mistake was hers and everyone had to pay for it. all the other mistakes, everyone dealt with that shit too. it was just a mistake, and sydney is human, anyone could’ve fucked it up, carmy included but you can’t deny that it did have a big effect on everyone else having to deal with hundreds of orders right that second. and when all those other mistakes, everyone lost their shit too because the situations were ALSO fucked and needed to be resolved quickly and that’s what they did and that’s the same thing that happened that day except sydney didn’t help resolve it and left it to everyone else. and like you said, yes she’s overqualified and could’ve left long before this but she didn’t. carmy didn’t force her to stay or come to him in the first place. she did it because she wanted to. and all her ideas that he DIDNT ask for, he still listened to when he could and implemented them when he thought they were ready which he would know more about as he is 1) the boss, 2) the more experienced one 3) the one who knows everyone 4) been at the beef longer than sydney at the start of the series. he did listen to her. don’t forget they were literally working on the to go orders as she had suggested when everything went to shit. listen i’m not saying she’s at fault for everything or that carmy wasn’t wrong for putting more responsibilities on her than she could handle, obviously, but she wasn’t perfect either. i don’t know why everyone took it so fucking personal that carmy was yelling and stressed and simply wanted everyone focused and working when they have hundreds of orders piled up. they could’ve fixed their personal issues later and yes carmy should’ve apologized for piling shit on her and better productive conversations could’ve been had. it just wasn’t the time, that’s all i’m saying.

She didn't go behind his back and give the reviewer the dish tho. She gave it away and the person so happened to be a reviewer. imo, Sydney is impatient and lacks some experience, but she wasn't in the wrong. Carmy doesn't have the right to speak to anyone like that, and neither does Richie. What Richie said to her is sexual harassment and would have gotten anyone else working at any other place fired, but everyone here just shrugs off his bs. He had what she said coming. Don't dish it if you can't take it, and Carmy is better at being a chef than running a business. He has so much going on that he just piles more responsibility onto Sidney. I would have quit and told both of them to go f*** themselves tbh. Don't get me wrong tho, I love all 3 characters, but this was a mess and it wasn't all Sidney's fault.

@@avalonsignoraalmas6150What did he say to her sexually? Carmy had a bad attitude but that was caused BY SIDNEY.
