The DA got about 22% of the National vote, while the ANC got about 40%. Based on these percentages (and assuming other parties keep their current positions), a fair cabinet split would have been around 10 positions for the DA and 18 for the ANC. Even in a worst-case scenario, it should have been 9 for the DA and 19 for the ANC. How can the DA be satisfied with only 6 cabinet positions? This seems disproportionate to the actual vote share and doesn't reflect a fair representation in the coalition government. Let's not even get into the weighting of the different cabinet positions and what would have been reasonable.

The DA should never have agreed to that letter of intent without stipulating a marked reduction in cabinet posts and a clear understanding regarding proportionality. The ANC, even after its loss, hasn't changed one bit. Now, we sit with a bloated cabinet filled with incompetent ANC deployees and can therefore expect more of the same. The DA is on a leash, so I won't hold my breath. It's quite disappointing, to say the least, and very far from a GNU. The ANC has far too much power because the cabinet does not reflect the will of the people.

The DA fought for more positions but ramaphosa wouldn’t budge. They were about to walk out but remembered why they were in the GNU in the first place: for the people of SA.

There were 10 other parties that joined in the GNU, and the other cabinet and government positions went to them. Even the Freedom Front Plus party got a cabinet position

The ANC has 20 ministries. The DA got 6. That is not even close to fair or negotiating in good faith. Not to mention, we got two additional ministries.

DA My wish list for DA 1 Grant ZEP holders citizenship to end xenophobia and racial slurs 2 Collaborate with rural farmers to make more landd productive and commercial 3 Build fresh water inland lakes to ensure more irrigation, hydropower, aquaculture and tourism 4 Introduce more comparable advanced first world education that can grow South Africa 5 Attract at least US$2 trillion foreign direct investments into South Africa 6 Develop new diamond road and rail network across South Africa. 7 Built new airports plus drones airports and networks infrastructure. 8 Build new commercial sea ports 9. Exploit massive gas and oil reserves on South Africa sea 10. Develop new import substitution industries 11. Develop infrastructure for locally made industrial equipment, all kind of engines ( for cars, haulage trucks, aeroplanes, ships etc) 12. Develop new cities and towns 13. Prove that whites are still relevant in South Africa

You guys failed spectacularly! How on earth did you accept 6 ministries when the ANC got 20? That letter on intent clearly missed the mark by a huge margin. Now, we are sitting with 2 additional ministries (30 to 32). Ramaphosa wouldn't be president without the DA, yet he gave you guys scraps. This is not a good start. You compromised far too much.

Historical moment for South Africa,Thank God that I am alive in this generation to witness this happening for the first time in South Africa.I compare this to the time Barak Obama becoming the first USA black president.We’re witnessing for the first time a combined leadership of blacks and whites.May God be praised and guide and protect the hearts and minds of our leaders.
