Kevin Chen the reason it’s bad to not vaccinate is because by leaving yourself vulnerable to sicknesses you also leave people who can’t get vaccines for medical reasons now more vulnerable to sickness because not only can the disease get them sick through nature, but now also you. So it’s not ok to believe that because your harming other people

All of my Indian friends hate that Apu was removed, it was their favourite character- it was MY favourite character too, and I'm European. He's one of the smartest characters in the whole show, and often serves to show just how DUMB American culture can be, and how he has to dumb himself down to fit in. I feel like people who think that Apu was a negative racial stereotype weren't really paying attention, at all. Same kinda people who see mini-skirts in star-trek and think it's sexist, when in reality it was feminism and at the time, so progressive it nearly got them canceled.

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with a gay character having some stereotypical aspects as long as it's not derailing their characterization to make them do something stereotypical because a writer somehow felt the need to fill a stereotype quota. The problem is when a show consistently writes gay characters that way & acts like it's normal. Like Family Guy. The gay characters in that show are almost incapable of having a personality trait other than "does stuff you'd expect from a gay character". As a result, they're barely characters. They're just vehicles for jokes. Though the same could be said for any modern Family Guy character.

i feel like its also very easy to draw parallels from apu to chef from south park. chef is a large black man, who randomly bursts into r&b song when giving advice, is a sex magnet, and essentially falls into most stereotypes of a black man (albeit, the ones that are percieved as positive, but they are still stereotypes.) however, he is one of the most well rounded people in south park. when he was in the show he was always the only truly levelheaded person in town, and stan, kyle, kenny and cartman almost always went to him when they needed advice. he was never the butt of the joke, either, it was always someone else, usually a white person, making an absolute fool of themselves through racism directed at chef. stereotypes in satirical comedies have always been a thing. they are usually, in my opinion, some of the most enjoyable characters to watch, too. excellent video, man.

@@joemusfox well it's hard to actually be sure as to weather he should count or not. after all the definition of white is quite America centric so its hard to apply it outside America, some argue it to be skin color based, some European descent, others argue culture and et cetera. I like to argue a that white as a term is rather lazy as it forcefully group cultures together, the same goes for stuff like black or Asian. these terms may make sense to apply intercountry but don't function that well on a bigger scale, after all most people would rather default to their nationality or ethnicity over race, but if i am to entertain the notion of race. Kartos is white, the ancient Greek according to most get identified as white, while they have tan skin, tan skin is something any white person would develop living in a warmer climate.

i saw a tik tok that made a similar point. it only really seems like people who aren't in a specific minority are the ones who get most offended with the depictions of minorities. in the video, a white guy went around dressed in a pancho, sombrero, and a fake mustache, the most common stereotype for mexicans. he interviewed people asking them if they thought his costume was offensive, and everyone who said "yes it is offensive" were people who were NOT mexican or of hispanic decent. then, he interviewed actual mexicans and asked them the same question, and they all said no, it's not offensive. hell, a lot of them thought it was funny and said they liked his costume!!! as someone who is mexican and comes from a mexican family, i can tell you from personal experience that we don't really care about people who use that stereotype, and we actually find it funny. that's what comedy is!!! exaggeration and making people laugh!!! the only time it really becomes a problem is when the stereotype is used specifically to harm or disrespect someone. wearing a sombrero and mustache while speaking in a fake mexican accent to be goofy and make people laugh isn't harmful, UNLESS you are doing it solely out of malice to harm and disrespect us. we have to understand that people can feel differently about certain things, we're all entitled to our own opinions, and we shouldn't push that onto others. if you find sombreros and fake mustaches offensive, i can't change your opinion. that's how you feel, and i appreciate you for showing your concern for my culture! you just need to understand that sometimes, it really isn't THAT deep. of course that's just me. everyone has very different experiences with culture appropriation, and it's not up to me to dictate whether you're being "overly sensitive" or not.

Yeah, initial budgets are a bitch and many animated shows rely on voice actors to wear many hats. Being PC to appeal to a minority who complain just isnt in the budget a lot of times. And now that the character is like 20 years old it would be strange to change the voice actor. Although if they felt like cowtowing to these hateful whiners they could. Unsure how it would damage the character without seeing it first though.

Ashley well, what’s your argument for him to NOT have the accent? He is an immigrant who came directly from India, it would make sense for him to have an accent as thick as he does

@@Ashley-iw2no I find it potentially closer to offensive and racist to say a character from another land is not allowed to have a thick accent. Doesn't that strike you as odd to say thick accents are looked down upon and people should get a new voice when coming to America, even in a comedy? Thick accents can't be represented? They'll never be more than a stereotype, because people can't look past it? If you ask me, taking a character out because of a thick accent and running a convenience store (even though there's far more to Apu) seems closer to being racist than leaving him in.

I've never met a single person who hates Apu. I think Apu his one of the best characters on the show, not to mention he has the cutest children ever. Literally every character on the show is a stereotype of something or other. Also, love those stylised depictions of other characters, you should do them all.

They literally made apu one of the smartest and friendliest characters on the show and was even part of the main cast at one point (hit and run.) and that still wasn’t enough for that obnoxious “comedian.”

Apu is one of the most positive depictions of Indians in media in general. It’s no wonder why that ‘comedian’ wanted to get rid of him, he’s nothing like Apu in any sense. No one even knows who he is and they *never* will. He will always be remembered as that weirdo who got offended by Apu of all characters.

@@SteveSmith-ty8ko no he wants to get rid of him because he is a race baiter all he sees is racism everywhere and completely overlooks anything that could possibly be positive. he is completely blind to reality and wants to be in this special place of absolute social power where everyone else must kneel before him. homer is a significantly more negative stereotype of a character same thing with the father in american dad or peter in family guy. yet he says nothing. I don't have anything against imigrants I like it, it would be boring if we were all the same like many other countries. but when a outsider comes in and starts pointing his finger talking down to people that isn't his culture I feel like he should just leave.

See? That's what I mean. It was people getting offended on behalf of people who aren't offended, which is about as racist as you can get. "Oh, you don't see how this Mexican mouse is offensive? That's just because your puny Mexican brain can't process it properly. Don't worry hapless Mexican, I, the great American, shall remove this offensive mouse from the television and all forms of media, so neither you, nor your children, will have to see this heroic Mexican character who outwits and defeats every adversary he comes across!" There were a lot of Mexican kids in my neighborhood, and they ADORED this character. Pretty much everything I've seen online says that he was popular with Mexicans, both in the country, and immigrants from it.
