I’m glad that you’re proudly wearing a grounding strap. Many KZfaqrs refuse to wear one while handling delicate equipment and boldly state that Electrostatic Discharge is a myth. Thank you for doing it right.

I just want to say that your video's are so well and clearly explained and helped me a lot to figure out some things using the Arduino boards. Keep on going! for the beginners: a good starting point to begin with Arduino is buying 1 arduino UNO board for developping/testing. Once the program is ready to be used you can easilly put the final version on a arduino pro mini board (same connections). You can power this pro mini board by putting 5V DC on VCC or 7-9V DC on the RAW pin (in case of 5V DC version board) . You can even adapt you program later on the pro mini board (if needed) using the FTDI adapter, so think about that when putting the board on his place.

Recap: Use the Uno for prototyping or when you need a shield. For final state projects, use Nano or Pro Mini at best. For beefy projects, use Mega. For modest projects needing only few pins, use ATtiny. For serial communication needs (like if you need to communicate with a Raspberry Pi), preferrably use anything with a USB port, like a Mega, Uno or Nano.
@thevoice4758
@thevoice4758 4 жыл бұрын
for serial communication you do not need to have a USB port. You can use pin 0 (RXD) and 1 (TXD) of the pro mini board.

Look closely at the pin journals on your Digispark T85, and you will find that it will plug *directly* into your breadboard's power rows, and 6 separate columns for the I/O. You should only solder the 5v and ground on the power side -- if you put that 3rd power pin in, it won't fit. Another interesting thing to do with your Digispark, is to build a USBtinyISP. If loaded on top of the Micronucleus bootloader, with the reset pin fused out, it can become an up-gradable ICSP that will program most any raw AVR8 chip through its native SPI interface.

Any idea when (or if) You will do a video on the ATTiny85 boards? In particular around setting up the communications, installing drivers etc. I'd really like to get into these small boards, but am not able to set up the communications (probably because I use a Macbook Pro). Your videos are really inspirational and well explanatory, so a video on the Attiny85 would be highly appreciated.

The supplied pins on a NANO with the pins not soldered is the best way. Order the pin strips that had the AUGAT style pins. They are smaller and round and intended to go in an IC socket or breadboard. The supplied pins are intended for mating with a 3M style ribbon cable. I bought a large quantity of the long strips of the round pins to install in things like the NANO.

The most noticeable thing in this video is the Antistatic wrist band that you are wearing. I think many kids are unaware of the antistatic measures. I use an Antistaic mat grounded to electric outlet, and a wrist band, and antistatic slippers. Would it serve the same purpose, if I work on a antistatic mat, and wear antistatic slippers, but do not tie the wrist band.
@Dronebotworkshop
@Dronebotworkshop 7 жыл бұрын
The mat on the left side of my workbench is also an antistatic mat and it is grounded. And those parts drawers behind me that look "pink" have an antistatic lining. I actually have intentions of doing a video describing antistatic procedures and safe handling of electronics, already wrote a short article on it at dbot.ws/statzap

Do you keep ICs, and M/c chips in plastic containers or in a metal/ tin container.
@magaphoto
@magaphoto 6 жыл бұрын
More to the point, I find it bewildering anti-static procedures are so often ignored. It's a basic way to leave room for doubt in troubleshooting. If you go through the trouble of putting together a $500 PC, and when you try to boot it, it's DOA,... Was it DOA or did you kill it the moment you took the new mobo out of the bag by being careless? You just wasted all that time and money for no good reason.

On the Nano since there are two grounds and only one five-volt connection can you put three devices on to the five-volt pin? I am using two Capacitive Soil Moisture sensors along with a i2c controlling a 16,2 display. I first used an Uno to test and then I moved the circuit to the Nano. I have the Nano on the board with the headers and screw connectors. Since switching everything over and double-checking my connectors I am now having an issue with one sensor reporting false readings even with the sensor completely disconnected. Just wondering if I have too much on the nano, doesn't seem like it should be the issue but I'm still new to these things.

The best laid plans... It was my full intention, and still is, to continue making more videos on the subject. However just after making this video we had a family emergency that required my undivided attention and kept me from making more videos for many months. I've just got back to making them again and will indeed make more videos on the different members of the Arduino family, as each model has it's own unique characteristics and I want to illustrate that. As for the playlists once I have enough videos in my own catalog I'll update them to include them.

Use a dremel to carefully file down the pins on a male female header row. Use this as a socket on a breadboard to not destroy it.

For bigger projects is the ESP32 CH340 not a better choice due to the greater memory and WiFi connection? Am I right that it can be extended for more pins?

Brilliant video (as usual) which explains things in a very clear way. However, I am now starting a campaign to make our American friends pronounce the "L" in "soldering"!!! ;-)

Sir,is it possible to extract code from the mega ic microcontroller? For instance,if particular microcontroller ic IO is faulty there is need for its replacement with new one and the original code must be transferred to the new mcrocontroler.

Amateur question here. I have a power supply that I can dial in Volts and Amps. If I want to power say 2 or 3 Arduinos and they each need 5volts how do I know what to set my power supply? I'm afriad 15v would start frying my boards? Surely there is a method to this.
