The Armageddon game that made Humpy the World Rapid Champion 2019

After losing game 1 of the 3+2 playoff, Humpy struck back and won the second blitz game. With the scores tied at 1-1, the action went into Armageddon. Humpy had the black pieces and a draw would mean a victory for her, but she had 1 minute less than her opponent. Check out Humpy's confidence and the calmness with which she makes her moves to become the World Rapid Champion 2019.

No, she was ahead in time as you can see from the video. She knew she had a good position and probably knew she can win it, but she only needed a draw to win the title. So no need to risk a blunder by going for win when you can settled for the draw now.

@@dnavaneet In a sense, it is fair, because quality of moves improves if more time could be spent on moves. Nevertheless, Armageddon is used only as a last resort, to resolve a tie that occurs even after multiple games were played.

I had watched chess matches before also but I never understand fully because my knowledge was limited. Thanks to Sagar and Samay I can understand much better now. And after yesterday I also understand Armageddon rule. Tho Humpy was dominating since the start. I don't know if I am right or wrong on 5:37 Humpys opponent did a blunder instead of moving her queen for an exchange at f2 she move her bishop to d1... Because of what her king got stuck and Humpy able to get her queen...

Nope ! She would've gotten mated then because Humpy would play her rook to g2 giving a check and the king has no option other than moving to f1 becase the rook on f2 is tied with the king . So after moving the rook to g2 the king moves to f1 and then the rook moves to g1 for a mate .
