Andrew Vo, 32, never envisioned himself joining the military until he saw his hefty dental school tuition price tag and learned about the Health Profession Scholarship Program-a way for Vo to have up to four years of his tuition paid for by serving the military.
“It was a no-brainer,” Vo said. “It gave me the chance to have a real shot of being debt-free, owning a house, starting and supporting my family.”
Vo was awarded the three year scholarship and paid for the rest of his program fees by borrowing $176K in student loans-an amount far smaller than his dental school colleagues. After four years of service, what he didn’t expect was how much he’d come to love being in the army. What initially started as a way to pay for school became something he fell in love with as he grew a deep appreciation for serving his country.

@@williamzhu9160 Al Qaeda was first funded by the CIA to fight against the Soviets in Afghanistan (who actually were running the country better than the US ever did). ISIS was again funded along with Al Qaeda (and other terrorist groups) by the CIA to fight Assad initially. One of the reasons why ISIS did so well in taking over Iraq, is because the US had created an extremely unstable country when then they overthrew Saddam Hussein in an illegal war (Saddam was a key ally of the US for decades, also funded by the CIA). The Taliban often confused with the Mujahideen (the latter who were funded by the CIA), were themselves born out of the Mujahideen, so yes they were funded by the CIA.

If you attend most instate institutions the tuition falls around 10k a year which considering the upside in earning potential is affordable. I went to a 4 year state school for physics and computer science and I have minimal student loans. Let's stop acting like all schools are as expensive as private institutions or ivy league schools. You can attend a community college and transfer to a 4 year institution for a fraction of the cost sometimes pushed around the internet as if every schools cost 40k a year. Should be grounds keepers, receptionists, security also get a livable wage in an area where housing costs are higher than the national average. If you want to make it cheaper volunteer to give 20% of your income because when you are asking the government to solve this problem they will do the same by taking from you to give to students who already get at least 13 years free education.

It's not a good thing that civilians have to become multi-decade/life-long debt slaves in order to get a higher education, or have the alternative of being a pawn in the military risking their life in order to pay to get that education. Lol. If kids were made to have to work in order to pay for primary and secondary school, the general public would have a fit and wouldn't allow that because of how obscene that idea is. Now tell me why it's acceptable for adults to attend university?

I considered it but when I ran the numbers I'd technically make 400k more as a civilian physician rather than a military doctor over the 4 year period that I would serve. That was more than enough to pay off my 180k in loans and use money to invest and save for a house. On face value it looks like a win but when you dig deeper it might not be. Depends on what you want. I think most people should do it if they really want to serve our country in the armed forces but from a monetary standpoint it might not be that big of a win

The Army Reserve has medical officer recruiters that have some pretty competitive tuition reimbursement and bonuses. Of course there are requirements to become an officer, but it is worth it if you have 6 figure student loans for medical school.

It would be great if educating Americans could not come with a price tag so large it forces people to make difficult decisions about their life and family. Crazy thought but maybe just making education free for everyone might actually benefit us in the future just as it did in the past.

I like how they kept the SJW topic to the very end because most people only watch a few minutes of a video and if it were put in the front, there would be a lot of angry homophobia. If you thought I was about to say something against it, I wasn't. But the real issue is inserting political correctness when and where possible when no one asked for it. 👍
