You forgot that anyone can make a cheeseburger and apply for adaptation ,then the best and cheapest(or sometimes most expensive senator's friend )goes trough trial and in 2-3 months your cheeseburger becomes M1 A1 Cheeseburger.Fun thing is you can outsource the production of your cheeseburger to mexico and it will still be considered american made.
@coyoteunclean
@coyoteunclean 3 жыл бұрын
@@zumbazumba1 I'll make a small correction: the cheeseburger IS the requirement, but what you described is simply a cheaper way to get the sour cream hot dog pancakes in the hands of our operators, while fucking over domestic industrial capacity (and American workers) in the end. It all turned when we bought the M249 from FN and the M9 from Beretta.
@zumbazumba1

@@coyoteunclean Well outsourcing and buying guns from other countrys is nothing new to us army ,they did it long time ago before m9 and Fn ,waaay back in civil war. Sometimes other countrys have better products and design than domestic industry .Good example is bren vs bar in ww2. Thing is its not the outsourcing that fucks up domestic industry and workforce its bad management and greedy rich people.

Interestingly, the reason they do that is because the spotter is giving a wind call. The wind can change so fast, thus changing the shot, the send-it call is to make sure the shooter gets the shot of straight off the wind call. I shot a bit of competition .22lr in college and was using an 8 oz trigger break. Joined the army and first time at the range with a M-16A1 I got in the foxhole and we were cleared to fire and my weapon wouldn't fire... well, I just did not grasp the concept of an 8 pound trigger draw... did fine after my drill seargent grabbed my weapon and rattled off a few shots and politely (not really) commented that there was nothing wrong with the weapon :) Also didn't appreciate when I asked "Where do you want me to shoot the targets?" I was used to putting multiple rounds through the same hole at 100 feet with iron sights and the idea of 'just' hitting a man sized target was not a challenge until you got out past 300 yards.

I love that Mr. Owens shares the fact that procurement requires mind-numbing speficificity (so there's no room for private industry to cut corners and have "convenient misunderstandings"), [engineering] processes are categorically methodical in order to replace assumptions and "common sense" with factual data points from testing, the inclusion of subject matter experts who can advise on specific components and processes, and the real world experience of [equipment] operators in the field who can share their personal experiences with mission constraints. It seems to me that very few persons with situational awareness ("operators") have the patience, desire, AND skill to articulate necessary information while enduring the tediously slow processes of engineers/engineering/R&D, administrative paperwork and documentation, and bureaucratic/political BS. THANK YOU, Mr. Owens, for doing what so many of us can't endure but very much want to improve/create.

The irony is that all that work specifying what they wanted has been around for years. I played with a similar model 8 or 9 years ago. Desert Tech has been doing this for years too.
@Red_Proton
@Red_Proton 4 жыл бұрын
@@patrickjohnson3862 Yes, sir -- having to get specific and work through a process has been around for centuries, ever since the first human tried sharing his/her idea with another, or after the first human put one rock on top of another, or the frst time someone said, "Wait! We need to bound the constraints before you do it again. Just because you survived the first time, doesn't mean you will survive the second time." The Romans would test their new bridges by putting the engineer who worked on it and his family under the bridge during the first test crossing the bridge. Consequently, only successful engineers went on with a healthy career/life. However, I wanted to recognize and applaud Mr. Owens' experience and success having to go through such a grueling process because, Lord knows, I would shoot my self before the end of the first day if I was forced to go through the process of design and procurement of anything for the military/government. I have a friend who did the exact same kind of work as Mr. Owens while also serving in the military... just listening to the stories can drain the life out of me. LOL. Mr. Owens did a great job... and lived to tell about it!
