I feel like people don't give Togashi enough roses for the way he can make very diverse human characters, in terms of faces and body type that takes skill

The issue is that you have guys like Eichiiro Oda that do better art for an even more diverse setting and Oda has never taken a vacation longer than 2 months in the entire run of a 1000+ manga and when you compare Togashi to Oda he falls short. Yes Togashi is good, but his art, like many other aspects, falls short when compared to other Mangakas.

@@SGR403 You are the one that said Togashi didn't get enough credit, I'm just telling you why that happens. It's not even just the comparison with Oda, Black Clover and Bleach both have better looking art and also have a variety of body types. It's just that One Piece is a very easy comparison to exemplify this, because it has a bigger world, more characters, more environments, more varied designs, etc.

I do love it too. Sometimes it's plain lazy, true, but Togashi have a way of showing grotesque and weird things that's just unique and awesome for me. Even non-weird things, there's something in his art that just clicks so well for me... and i feel that's his main strenght. Using his art to depict what he wants. TBH, i wish Togashi could just use as much assistance as possible, be it from AI or assistants, to focus on what he does best: combining his crazy ideas with some masterful composition and style.

He cannot even go to the hospital. Instead of saying “lazy” you should’ve used “more simple”. in some pages you can see (im just assuming here) when his back would start to ache; like before and after, like one page could be extremely detailed. Then the next lest detailed and it more looking like a sketch more than a fully finished drawing. again this is just my opinion, and you can have yours, but what I said before was true, have a good day.

Togashi's art isn't bad... it's prioritized. He spends much less time on drawing the more plot- or story-oriented pages. Lots of talking = less time on art, basically. His action panels, however, are some of my favorite in the entire industry. Togashi's art's perspective is top tier, and you get a really great sense of motion and movement during battles, especially the more personal ones, like Hisoka vs. Gon in Heaven's Arena.

I honestly love Togashi's style. He has both the properties of cute-n-simple and serious-n-detailed. He may not have the cutest and simplest style, nor the most serious and detailed style, but being able to play around in that range allows him to build the world of Hunter X Hunter that we've all come to love. i still believe the decision of bringing back kite was a great one by togashi as it adds to the pointlessness of Gon's decision and him thinking that what he did to pitou, how he was destroying himself and lost his arm like kite is like an atonement, when it shouldn't be like that at all, it's in a way a punishment for gon to confront that idea and grow from it, losing his nen and returning to his weak child body too, i really think these were great ideas by togashi that strengthens Gon's arc and the themes of it before the final with ging.

I never thought of kite’s return as a way to highlight the pointlessness on gon’s actions, but now thinking about this, even Ging points out the fact that theres a failsafe if Kite is feeling adamant about not dying. Adding to that we’ve been shown multiple examples where the most skilled hunters plan around death (Zeno telling Silva to take chrollo down with him, the troupe not retaliating after chrollo was cursed, Changing plans when storming the palace because of how Meleoron’s ability could interact with death, Netero’s Poor Man’s Rose, Hisoka’s post-mortem,and a lot of succesion war shenannigans). It is truly pointless for exceptional hunters to think of death as an ultimatum.

I would argue the battle manga aspect of Togashi's art is just servicable, but his ability to construct skin-crawling horror imagery is exquisite. He'll throw grotesque nightmare designs that are genuinely unsettling, he can create a sinister atmosphere that really builds tension and a sense of discomfort, and his characters can have just the most horrifying expressions when he wants them to. When you juxtapose these horrifying elements to the more clean and simple shounen fantasy world it really sticks out. Like, the Succession War is chalk full of the very worst things but it all takes place on a boat shaped like an adorable cartoon whale, that dissonance is just... so Hunter X Hunter.

I have a theory on why hisoka bathes so often. Being a horny battle clown he prioritizes two things; one his enjoyment of the fight, and two his efficiency in aura use. So the possibility of dust and dirt sticking to his Bungie Gum could mess with his efficiency along with allowing his opponents to visualize where Bungie Gum is applied. He even uses the buildup of dirt and blood in his fight with clone guy at heaven's arena.

I kind of want to know what event happened in the Zoldyck family that changed some members' appearance so much. We see both a family photo and some scattered flashbacks of a few years ago where, for lack of a better word, they all appear to be dressed "normally". Then, with really no gradual transition depicted, we see several members with dramatically altered appearances. Kikyo goes from relatively demur traditional Japanese garb/hair to her quite ostentatious and also western influenced garb. Illumi managed to grow out his hair significantly and wears pretty bizarre clothing. Kalluto dresses in traditional girl's clothing. Alluka we assume is transgender. Pretty stark contrast to Zeno, Silva, Milluki and Killua who, aside from the kids getting bigger, have not changed at all in character design. I feel like Togashi would not do this randomly but I am not sure what to make of it :)

I think Youpi should've died at the end of his battle with Knuckle/Morel. By the end of the fight he had evolved from a mindless beast into a clear thinking fighter that developed a lot of respect for the humans, so he already had a satisfying arc. Him going off with Pouf made the whole effort to take him down feel really unsatisfying and pointless. After that point he just started going along with whatever Pouf wanted, which also hurt the character he developed in the fight.

Also, his page layout is very imaginative and fun, although the more exposition we get, usually the less he plays around with that, and in the last arc is kinda rough in that aspect. Nonetheless, you can see this clearly in, for example, the Yu Yu Hakusho manga, that is super fun and agile to read.

One Punch Man is a good demonstration where having artwork by someone else elevates things. But, it also shows two things to consider: The original author STILL draws for himself. The drawing is part of figuring out the story. And two... The new drawing comes with some changes to the story. This is a natural thing which should be expected. But if not done properly, it could cause major problems. What happens when the artist asks for a small detail because it looks good on the page, but that reveals a plot twist early, or creates a plot hole when later details come up? Like for example, what if the artist decided to draw Killua in the background, because he had been present in the previous panel, but now the focus is on Gon giving a beatdown. But it is later revealed that Killua went godspeed and pulled off an assassination during the beatdown in that panel?

I think Kite coming back was actually pretty tame compared to most fake out deaths. We were stuck with kite being dead for a long time. It gave time for the reality of the situation to sink in for both us and Gon/Killua. Then there were real effects from Kite’s death. It wasn’t meaningless because there were consequences for it. It also kind of showed how Gon was willing to throw away everything for absolutely nothing. He barely knew Kite and Kite wasn’t even dead.

I absolutely dont understand people saying Togashi's art is bad , like have you seen some of his pages in both his manga and so many various artstyles he uses so easily . Also he has such a flow with them all . Which a lot of manga now now such a rough art ( like jjk and csn even if they have great art ) . Its just that he prioritizes panels that he feels like need attention otherwise he doesnt and rough sketches it .

There's something weird here some people talking like hxh is the only togashi work and just talking about the art in one work and say his art is bad without checking the others Level E is good example There's alot of emotion that can be missed when another person draw the manga by just copy the style, there's many manga with sample art but the way it presented with the facial expression and other stuff that gives very strong emotions through it art. There's also a short manga written by assistant that work with togashi during yyh showed how togashi care about the little details and the way he want things to be drawn. even with great art it need a good presentation so the art can convey what the story tell, comparing it with other type of style doesn't make sense because art can take different forms, togashi can be sample when he need to be and draw highly detailed when he need to.

Kite's reincarnation is somewhat mysterious and could have future implications. Togashi never uses catch phrases and yet Kite repeatedly says every single one of his Crazy Slots is a bad roll which is like a catch phrase for me.... until he rolls 3 before his gruesome death. For the only time he says it's a good roll. One could interpret that he not only knew he was in deep trouble (not hard to see as he just lost an arm) but that he KNEW Crazy Slots 3 would work. And later when Ging talks about Crazy Slots 3, it is so matter of fact, it is also like he also KNEW that Crazy Slots would work. We are talking about reincarnation here. To me... the only way anyone would KNOW this would work is if it was already done at least once successfully. Other characters are shown trying out their techniques first (like Kurapika practising Judgement Chain on Ugovin before he went after Chrollo), particularly for very powerful ones with restrictions. It seems very odd to me that someone would make a freaking reincarnation ability and not just assume but know with certainty that it would work if he/she hasn't reincarnated before. Hmm. Who really is Kite?

I feel like Kurapika's whole thing about only being able to use certain powers on the spiders should come up more often. There doesn't seem to be a reason that judgement chain is as powerful as it is when he seemingly can just use it on whoever.
@j.prt.979
@j.prt.979 8 ай бұрын
Only chain jail is limited to spiders. To actually hit someone, judgment chain requires the opponent to either be unable to move or somehow unable to detect it coming at them. The way he usually hits with it is by trapping the enemy with chain jail first. If he tries it on a non-spider it’s much harder to hit since he can’t immobilize them with chain jail first. Any skilled nen user will just dodge or block it. Heck, based on the way he’s used it so far, for all we know there’s a secret condition like “the person judgment chain is used on must either agree to its condition or be wrapped in chain jail.” (I don’t think so, but it’s possible.)

I think the biggest issue with bringing any character "back alive" is from that point on death no longer has the same weight, and your readers start to doubt anyone's death from that point on. Even if you kill someone and don't ever revive them, people are still going to have that thought and possibility in the back of their head now that it's shown to be possible with anyone. One piece obviously has reached total meme status in this regard and is definitely one of the strongest cons against the series. There's not a single character you ever worry about dying, or ever feel any type of stakes or consequences with. The worst that will happen is they'll just stop being talked about which is just boring. I can get why Oda would want to keep characters alive, but showing them "die" and them not actually dying is just cheap and boring.

if togashi’s art is considered bad then i will never achieve any semblance of success in my life with mine. i am not exaggerating when i say that hxh probably has the best artstyle any comic artist could dream of. as many people already mentioned, he doesn’t suffer from same face syndrome at all…and it really blows my mind everytime i see even the background characters who are given as much individuality as the characters we’re supposed to be focusing on. it’s just so beautifully versatile and simple yet complex when it has to be…i think it really suits togashi best, as he can focus on the most important parts of the story to put his energy into vs a random mostly text filled panel. the thing with art is that, you can’t just judge it by it’s complexity or the backbreaking labour that it demands at times (berserk and other similar works being best examples of what a great very detailed and almost realistic style looks like) but have to take a lot of things into consideration. if i had to pick a single manga based on aesthetics alone it’d be WHA, for symmetry it’d be hnk or blame etc…but what wins imo when it comes to impactful chara design is hxh i can spend hours screaming my love for hxh and the artstyle i have been admiring for most of my life…so it kind of hurts the artist in me hearing that some people think that togashi is bad at drawing. with that being said tho, if he wants to only write and have other artists draw for him, i’ll support that decision but his artstyle and genuis creative mind will never cease to amaze me no matter how old i get

Honestly, I think Togashi is an excellent writer, despite his inability to remain consistent sometimes. Big example is Hiei in Yu Yu Hakusho, he and Yukina went from having different mothers, Hiei being an older sibling, to being twins because his mother somehow got pregnant from a man and her normal asexual reproductive schedule. The only thing I'm not big on in HvH is Kurapika killing himself with Emperor Time, though I am curious if the rest of his tribe would have been able to switch into being specialists as well.

Togashi's drawings are ridiculously good. People in the comment section already covered this, but he is really good at diversifying characters. Each characters looks incredible different from each other. And the composition in different panels is also really great....I can keep going :) But if someone else can do the art and Togashi can focus on writing, I would be fine with that. I rather see the rest of the story one day. Kinda same situation with Dragon Ball. Toriyama's Art....chef's kiss, but I'm okay with another artist taking his place.

thank you very much for answering my question liam.( i don't know why but it feels surreal seeing me in a newworldreview video despite having been noticed by him before.:3) really liked that answer as looking back with gon he does have the trauma from it but grew strong to keep his innocence full circle and(outside the paper work.) enjoying life again compared to some anime & manga main characters that get broken or even lose some of that charm when turning mature. love togashi's answer at the end as my take would be that(at least for now as there's not much saying it couldn't change.) it's the end for gon's part of the story but not yet for the series world(like kurapika and leorio after not being involved in the last big arc bringing other parts of the world back) which is notable compared with other shonen jump series still having the main star.

I agree most of the art in the manga is mid-tier and if his characters and story weren't as amazing he wouldn't be as popular. However, if you take recent chapters there are some shots that show radical improvement. One that really stood out for me was Tserriednich sitting on his throne with the eyes in jars. The proportions, details and especially the hand design shows consistency he doesn't often show. Seriously the design of the hands alone makes ALL his other hand drawings obsolete. So I'm hopeful.

I think Kite being reincarnated was actually a good choice on the authors part. Let me explain, if Kite remained dead than it would have just been a revenge story, but since he got back as a chimera ant than it essentially makes Gon a blood cold murderer who killed Pito for nothing, which highlights how twisted Gon actually was in that fight. So i actually like the fact that Kite got revived in that specific context, cause Gon literally kilked Pito for nothing.

togashi is pretty varied with art... it is now kind of weird having him as one of my inspos upon hearing he doesn't like art though, or does he?? im not sure, togashi is pretty weird and quirky in general, i wouldnt be surprised if it was one of his jokes, but i do know he is lazy. however, honestly? who isn't? still though, whenever he hits it goes crazy, but whenever he misses it ranges from "sure, i can accept this" to "ehhhhhh" i remember a post that said togashi sometimes had different artstyles to incorporate a feel of a certain arc, like how night skies and cities were used in the yorknew city arc, while a more fantasy background was used in the greed island arc, but also the chimera ant arc using thicker brushes (like in the adult gon scene) to incorporate some sort of type of strong emotion, notably fear. also the succession war arc having lots of indoor spaces and rooms because well. it's inside. but also lots of text because it is in some type of political setting, though that can lead to weird things like the page that was just full of text he is pretty good at panelling, and making things pop out of the panels while also using the popped out things as a way to add more panels another analyzation was made by my friend how hunter x hunter looked more googly moogly and more cartoony than yu yu hakusho's artstyle, which i can see togashi does have a certain aesthetic, and i think its cute from creepy outlook

I really appreciate the diversity he put into his characters, their designs are beautiful. He is absolutly capable of doing amazing art, we have seen it in HunterxHunter as well, for example Meruem vs Netero. His way of shading is phenomenal. But the "problem" here is that his art isn´t consistent. Often he keeps everything very simple. If he goes "over the top" his art is great but it doesn´t hold that quality (like for example Vinland Saga). So the problem here isn´t his ability to draw but the consistency with which he puts out quality art.

And another controversial, people forgot when Kurapika's teacher explained that no chain is perfect even if he mastered 100% of his conjuration affinity. So the only thing that made Kurapika invincible wasn't her Emperor Time, but the power of his Chain Jail, which he got from her vows. Uvogin lost because he couldn't destroy Kurapika's Chain Jail. if his Chain Jail was only 100% strong without the vows and restrictions, Uvogin would win because he can break that chain. So those who say Kurapika is invincible because he has Emperor Time, I kinda disagree. Once again, Kurapika is invincible because of his Chain Jail, while Chain Jail only affects the Phantom Troupe, so if anyone besides the Phantom Troupe and they are strong, Kurapika will lose. especially if the opponent is smart too.

I have two controversial opinions; I’ll start with the lesser of the 2. number one they intentionally did not tell Kilua about Nen because they wanted him at his absolute peak without it. He could’ve known that his grandpa had a famous Ariel technique called dragon dive without actually knowing how it works. 2 Hisoka is not actually that good of a fighter. He’s just used to fighting inferior opponents. Texture surprise is versatile but it’s not that powerful and usually just gives Hisoka plot armor until Chrollo.

I think it is impossible for Togashi (or anyone for that matter) to write the expedition into the dark continent in a way that holds up to Netero’s flashback. How are you supposed to have a normal story flow when you could bump into a new chimera ant level threat with each chapter?

Kite's ability was supposed to be able to let him to conjure some weapons in his Crazy Slots, but out of nowhere suddenly he can be reincarnated bcs of his nen ability in his Crazy Slots taught by Ging? :/ let alone Nanika who 'might' be able to do that, it is overpowered because it comes from DC, but Kite? It takes away the impact of his death had on Gon by getting rid of the loss like what's the point he turned into a monster then? I'm not lying I was happy when Kite was alive again but when I heard the explanation about how his reincarnation works, I was like "huh?". It would make more sense if he was reincarnated in the same way as the other chimera ants than because of his nen ability, that crazy slots.

Controversial opinions? Morel's claim that fights between nen users aren't about power levels is a series defining and genre defying statement. It is also immediately undermined when Merum defeats the strongest nen user in the world because he was able to infinitely tank damage while simply waiting for a hole to appear in Netero's defense. HxH is great.... but it isn't actually any better or smarter then other popular shounen out there.

Well I think Tagashi wrote the story amazing and I love it the way it is and it's perfect but I think he could've write it a lot better if he gave everything a little more detailed. For me it feels like every time an arc ends, it's still not finished and the story is only 70% completed. And I as a person who speaks English at a high level compared to other teenagers in Israel find it kinda hard to follow the story with the art style. Idk if it's because my English isn't good enough or the art style is confusing or it's just my ADHD but it's actually harder to read than other things that I read in English like comics other mangas and spending way too many hours in the internet and I made my fyp on TikTok 90% in English instead of Hebrew.
