I believe in that "wearapy" thing that Jeannie was talking about. I've never been in a relationship but I apply this to my own life. Living with a chronic illness gets depressing but I try to make a point to get dressed everyday even if I feel like absolute crap physically. And it helps me feel a little more productive and positive.

I recently broke up with my boyfriend of 3 years and it took me about 2.5, going on 3 months to get over it. In those months, I gained/lost weight and cried myself to sleep, refused to eat, can't focus in school. I was a mess. And No matter what kind of prep talk was given to me by my friends, I was still a hot mess until I came to term tht it was over and it was the best thing.

Jeanie is so true about "wearapy" !! when you look better sometimes it helps you feel better. My grandma taught me early on to not look like what your going through lol whether it's getting your nails done, or hair did, or putting on a nice lipstick..or all of the above! lol it really helps.

You're a good friend Loni. There is no exact time frame for healing from a broken heart. Each person is different and each circumstance and relationship is different. And yes, as a friend, part of our job is to be there and also to help them snap out of it. Support is the best way to help someone. Whether it is making them breakfast or making them smile or giving them your shoulder and a hug. Allow people the time they need while supporting them to rise again.

i agree with jeannie and adrrienne. sometimes i have tried it myself not necessarily break up but it helped me with my depression too. sometimes put on a nice dress put on my fav red lipstick and when i see myself in the mirror and i am looking good it makes me feel better

OH goodnes, I needed this back in college. I had a roommate who went through a "break up." The girl basically realized that her heart was with some other guy, and when she told me roommate (after dating for a couple of months) he was torn. But he let it get to him every SINGLE part of the day for 2 freakin' years! He would always bring her up, always needed validation, and when I moved out since I graduated he still texts me about his feelings for her UGH. I'm happy that he can confide in me, and I've told him to TRY to get his mind off of it, but after every attempt he still brings her up.

Depends on the length of the relationship . . . Honestly it took me 8 to 9 months getting over a break up and its all I thought about no matter what and I have also been threw a short relationship break up and it took me like a few days but it depends honestly however you have to get threw it because if you surpress it it will come back in the long run . . . Just take your time to be sad and yoir heart will heal itself

I feel like guys find it harder to get over break ups than women do. Girls will be say for a week ish then make the effort to bring themselves back up. Guys will try to start looking for a replacement and then realise that they can't get back what they had with their ex in the lonely hours. (That's what I have noticed anyway).
