Thank you James. I am subscribed now. Awesome tutorial. I think not pumping up the ramp and only turning 90 degrees in the air will help Panther get his backside air to land. He seems to pump up and get too high and then rotate his body too much so his board ends up behind him, causing him to bail. At least he's perfected the knee slide in all of this.

Thanks for the great tips man! Been able to pop bs 180 a feet or two above coping on the not quite verts ramp and I really want to learn the bonking technique and bring it to the big bowl! You've given some tips I would not have thought to do like the no pumping up the ramp and the exhaling before the air. Can't wait to try this next sesh!

It's interesting, I've been coaching Parkour for many years and always talk about breath but when I got back into skating I forgot about that and I'm glad you brought it up because it's really been helping me improve. Just before I drop in, I do the same breath as when I'm about to do a jump in Parkour or when I'm sparring in martial arts. Sometimes I feel like riding a bowl is almost like grappling, you're in for the ride but trying to flow and do your techniques WITH instead of against the board and ramp. I don't know if that makes sense but the common thread is breathing.

Yeah good stuff,breathing is a help full thing because mainly u get nervous most of us are holding our breath until we learn to relax and u learn to relax by proper breath technique,the Olympic athletes do it before the event along with visualization,u don't have to get super crazy with yoga but from years of using exercise equipment for strength training u exhale when u push the weight away and relax open your mouth and the inhale just happens naturally because ur lungs pull air in as they contract,it should be easy not think about it its less distraction,and let's u focus its physical skating,good point u really just let the turn that u make kinda flow and slow it to the direction your going if your going down the pipe u wouldn't be doing a full 180 plus like he said u do a 90 I say that's a pretty good way to not over rotate,I find myself because I'm in the air making the turn is easier no resistance,I say that's a pretty good estimate a 90degree forced turn and then just let the fall and the rest of the turn go down the ramp with the skateaway,one thing look ahead of where u is to where u want to go,when I'm in the air spot my landing and then look to the flat and up the other wall,this helps your balance,good Perephrial vision helps like feelers to help u know where u are.real good teaching,and nice backside air beautiful,picture perfect.now if I could just get a new hip,I could gets some pop back in my front leg,my front side kicks and back sides kicks are still good,but its still fun.THANKS brah for learning the masses and spreading the vert gospel...get radical man.circa 1977....

Oh darn, did they get rid of the bowl? That thing was great. That vert ramp look forgiving though (like the bowl was). I've wanted that trick forever but I've never had a comfortable ramp to try it on. There was the slick as ice skatelite 13 footer and the steel that slices shoelaces at the seams 12' with 9.5' transitions ramp... I know it's weak to blame the spot. Also I've got vintage Rectors which aren't helping.

My issue is the only thing around me with coping to bonk off of is a pool in an abandoned house. 5 feet of transition, 4 feet of vert, but immediately into the waterfall so it’s way too quick. Maybe I’ll grow a pair and head to burnside and try there

@kellienicolebrooksschettin65985 жыл бұрын
Yeah I ain't touching the lighter thing...your on your own...I was just out today blasting some front side kick turns in the six foot shallow end of the ten foot bowl,and I real had to force my self to slow my kick turns down because I skate so fast, and its really the same for your air u just take a second and get you body square to the board in this case backside get in the set up position like he saying get straight then your rotation has a starting point u can feel,but its true the turn goes pretty easy,I prefer front side get your kicks dial and then follow this step by step.little pop on your kick turn,I seen guy do a silly bunny hop air but if that comes your nerves to start,I really think the bonk thing is a little more of an advanced technique but u really need to be weight sensitive on loading the board,that's some thing I learned on a one and half foot of vert on concrete if you don't push on your feet on your board you'll slide down the wall,timing it is easy and you actually gain height on the wall,thanks man,nice clean explanation,very nice.yeah bounce it off me again I thinks I gots it dis time....ooh ooh.just kidding got out on the new board to day,with the 60mm wheels and felt good,the old hips was pretty cooperative with front side kicks,oddly it was more stable with the backside kicks last time out,so WTF,day by day...thanks have its supposed to be fun,bull Durham,piece out.

I'm 35 now and fear that things are getting away from me. At what age did you start Skating vert? Also at what age did.early grabs all of a sudden become late grabs or were there never earlys...always lates?

Great questions. I never rode transition till i was 27. That is when I bought knee pads and got interested in bowl and vert. I started skating when I was 10 but really 14 is when i started hitting parks. I never early grabbed. I learned Ollie's over hips then just that turned into grab airs. I learned invert before bs air as well

Landed my first 4 then hung up🥺 how do I make sure I pop out enough
@trogarmy3 жыл бұрын
been there, done that. if you hit a good clean bonk you should feel that you are in the ramp enough to land or bail. If you let go early and try to put down the landing gear down early your percentage to hang up goes up. Another thing to remember is that every trick comes with a slam. not just a fall but a good hard slam. sounds like you got yours over with. with hang ups you learn a lot, what not to do. I wouldnt fear the slam/hang up again. with taking one already the chances it will happen again are unlikely anytime soon. remember your bail out pattern and the feeling of landing those first four. great job and i hope this answers your question. where can i see a video of the land???
