Oneida Nation of Wisconsin architect and designer, Chris T. Cornelius' art is rooted in his indigenous heritage. Through his work he strives to share the knowledge of his native culture. His exhibition ukwé·tase (OOK-wee-tah-ZAY) can now be seen at the Museum of Wisconsin Art.
Part sculpture, part structure, part immersive installation, ukwé·tase is designed to be experiential. You can touch it, walk through it, sit in it. Every piece has meaning to it but it's up to you decide that meaning. However the underlying idea is that we are all strangers on this land. There is a rich and complex culture that thrived here for thousands of years before us and if we take the time to reflect on it we can learn a lot from it.
