All episodes: • The Attackers - Episod...
The USSR - World War 2. Young pilots, Leonid and Boris arrive at military air training school only to find that they have been enlisted to an air regiment and will be going soon to the frontline.
Unfortunately the young pilots fail in their first mission. Instead of covering the Soviet attacker planes, Leonid gushes from his formation to attack the German Messerschmitts. This causes a breach in the defensive formation and, deprived of protection, the attacker planes come under fire from the German fighters and everyone is killed. Back on the ground Leonid and Boris are sent to the division’s headquarters where they are to be tried and executed. On their way to the place of execution, however, the commander of the attacker wing arrives at the military airfield and petitions personally for their release. Our heroes are given one last chance. Now they become attackers and will have to show responsibility and courage every moment of their service and execute the most complex of orders without hesitation or fear for their own lives.

This is the fourth one of these series that I've watched. I'm really Amazed by the detail and production values. So much original equipment. The acting is excellent and really protects the emotions and stress these people are going through. Even the CGI aerial scenes are well-execued. I don't feel like I'm being shown any propaganda and it's interesting to see what's being shown on modern Russian tv. I understand and appreciate the difficulty of translating into English subtitles so sometimes you have to fill in the blanks. American tv is so bad this summer Thank you so much for excellent programs.

I love the scene 30 minutes in when the colonel arrives just to reprimand the new fighter pilots. The actor playing the colonel had such a potent presence. By just his eyes, he had both a calm and a fury that filled the entire screen.

Agreed, a subtle, great performance. From the look in his eyes, you'd expect he wanted to kick those green pilots all over the place. It is rather strange that only when he summed up the veteran Sturmovik crews killed due to the new pilots' failure to follow orders, that I got a real sense of loss. They always say, 'show don't tell' but having this great actor remind those saps what they had really done, got the message through to me.

Not gonna lie, I like the raw realistic tone StarMedia puts into thier series. It's almost documentary like, as if your watching an actual movie of the time. Quite enjoy these series and wish North America made more series with this kind of feel. (I'm Canadian btw, so i include Canadian series too)

FANTASTIC series!! I'm LOVING your productions StarMedia! High quality video and audio and I am absolutely grateful you're making them available on KZfaq WITH English subtitles! As a Russophile, I'm loving it! Always helpful when you're trying to learn a new language! It is hard to find quality Russian works with English subtitles and easy access for non-Russian speaking admirers of Russian art and culture! :-) If I may make minor suggestions: * Around 04:47 I'm pretty certain the soldier (who is there to pick up the German prisoner) says "Tovarisch Starshiy Lyetenant" which should translate to "Comrade Senior Lieutenant" not "Comrade Lieutenant Colonel" as displayed in the English subtitles. * The military command"Svobodno" would be better translated as "Dismissed" instead of "You may be free." (I'm ex-Army) But otherwise, keep up the great work! :-) cheers,

I love these Russian TV series. My ancestry is Russian, and sometimes I feel a strange commonality. I particularly like how female soldiers and pilots are portrayed as capable fighters as the men. The highest compliment I can think of is how the Russian women fought so courageously and selflessly to protect their nation and their families, especially considering what tortures and rapes the Germans did to captured women fighters as they did to many Russian women of all ages.

42:27 - 42:28 "Congratulations. End of seance." Well, the use of the word "seance" is not entirely appropriate. Better would be "End of call". A "seance" is an old fashioned word, typically used a lot in the 1800's and 1900's to refer to a meeting in which people sat at a table in a dark room and attempted to contact spirits or ghosts, often through a key person who acted as the "medium".

Not having expertise, were these Soviet planes really made from wood and fabric? They seem so light and flimsy, how could they compete against the more advanced German designs, like the Messerschmidts BF-109s? And, I see the pilots walking on the wings to get into the planes- how do they not step through the fabric of wings?
@wrudn
@wrudn 7 жыл бұрын
The Russian Air Force was wiped in first few months of war, to their credit they somehow recovered and by the end of 1943 their pilots ruled the sky. For example during the biggest tank battle in history in Prokhorowka (part of Kursk German offensive) it was attack of Russian Aviation which stopped the German attack.

The mockups for this series are really bad. Just plywood and planks. Google Delta drevesina used for Lavochkin designs. The planes we can see here are Yakovlevs though.
@patrickholt2270
@patrickholt2270 5 жыл бұрын
Only partly. They used steel or aluminium particular places, like the base of the wings, around the engine, for the undercarriage and so on. They had an aluminium shortage, but they had some, and used it. Using plywood actually helped reduce the weight, as with the all wood Mosquito fighter-bombers in British service, which allowed a higher power to weight ratio, so they remained competitive in the air. It's why the fuselage is so broad and tall, to have the structural strength using wood, as with the British Hurricanes.

Hmm, not sure about the plane tactics. Pretty sure that the Me109s would fly high and then swoop down on Soviet planes, fire and then use the momentum to take them back up high, ready for another pass. Pretty low risk for the Axis, pretty unpleasant for the Soviets. It's why there were over 100 Me109 pilots with kills of > 100 on teh Eastern Front.
@gengis737

Depends on the russian plane. Early in the war German pilots could shot of untrained pilots on outdated planes. But Yak-9 was on par with Me 109 in high sky, and Yak-3 was so good in low level fights than German pilots were forbidden to engage them under 1,000 feet. Still, the fights at a few hundreds meters from ground is spectacular, but not typical. Fighters tend to stay in 1,000-3,000 feet high to be able to manoeuvre

Stalin was a murderous tyrants, and commissars proved an embarrassment when melting with military decisions. But Stalin had the strong will to keep USSR into the fight despite tremendous loss, and commissars played an important role in motivating the soldiers to fight on. Once they left the military decisions to the GHQ, brilliant victories followed at Stalingrad, Kursk, Bielorussia, Berlin. One has to wonder exactly how light hearted being in the Soviet army was during W.W.II; between moments of seriousness, it's almost like a family show. The Soviets are have known to have repeatedly raped just about every woman they got their hands on and I saw a picture of the human remains found by Finnish soldiers when apparently Russian soldiers, being without supply, ate some of their own men. But it's only t.v. after all... and I rather enjoy it.

The Soviets raped every women after Germans raped every women and mass killed civilians for 3 years. And you did not mention the millions of Soviet soldiers that Germans let starve to death. Germans soldier plainly wrote it to their family : "after what we did, we cannot expect no mercy". They also described Soviets as unhuman, as you do. But except for the politic commissar, there was no difference between a soviet fighter squadron and an english or american one, except much more losses to avenge.

@@gengis737 I didn't mention it because I'm not here to write a book. Nor did I mention the Soviets invaded both Poland and Finland prior to being invaded by the Nazis, there one time allies. Or that the Soviets wiped out more of their own people than the Nazis ever did.

@@joesurfer9754 But what about the Russians themselves? Did they get what they had coming to them? After attempting to invade Poland in 1920 and invading Finland in the so called "Winter War," did the Russians also have it coming from the Soviets? Stalin killed far more Russians than the Germans ever did...
