Great video, Prof! Re: CNN @ 8:30, I totally agree with your sentiments BUT I doubt AT&T would sell CNN to Netflix. Wouldn't this handicap their horse in the streaming wars, HBO Max? If they do spin CNN out (they should), would see some sort of cross licensing as a result at least. I'd also like to hear your updates on the streaming wars, and your thoughts of HBO Max's performance so far, and the possibility of them, Peacock, Paramount+ and Discovery+ merging. There are way too many streaming services out there! Keep up the great work, Prof.

Seeing game companies in this matrix is fascinating to me because games can easily command anywhere between 5 to 20+ hours a week across any key demographic in this country. So whereas I may spend 30 minutes a week on Disney plus to watch WandaVision, I easily hit that with any game.

Heard you mention you were looking at local news as an investable opportunity on the podcast. Gannett is building a subscription and advertising business that is digital first and print second. It's a direct-to-consumer subscription company, way better than a linear cable TV network. USA Today and this chain of 300+ local newspapers is a ridiculously undervalued asset at the moment. A couple years from now, with a few right moves, they could look like the "Netflix of news" where you subscribe to a plan that includes your local newspaper (if you live in one of the hundreds of places where they own the daily... or where they will start new digital-only newsrooms) and you'll also get ad-free USA Today wrapped in with the deal. Stock was $1 a few months ago and has climbed to $5 with 1.1 million digital subs. If they get a few million more digital subscribers paying $10 a month, and you add-in their robust digital advertising business, this becomes a $5 billion company with a $30 stock EASILY.

One disagreement and one question Prof., Google is not a menace economy company, it may be a monopoly which I believe is different from being a menace. Google has genuinely been a net positive to the world and has empowered so many of us through their many products. Question, you keep talking up all kinds of suitors for CNN but why hasn’t a CNN NYT merger which would instantly create a one stop shop for all things serious and credible across audio, video and text has never caught your fantasy? They both seem to have a similar customer base i.e. relatively affluent liberal people and a strong global brand, CNN doesn’t seem to have a very strong text presence case in point Fareed Zakaria writes for WaPo not CNN and there could also be possible synergies like Chris Cillizza, Ezra Klein, Kara Swisher creating more content for CNN/NYT.

The attention is NOT the most valuable resource! Sorry, but that is sensationalist BS, typical of marketers, that should know better. The most valuable resource is the same as it always has been - perception. Where attention pertains to one person, perception pertains to many. In that sense, perception = attention squared. Furthermore, captured attention has no inherent value. NO value in and of itself, prior to interest creation. In advertising parlance: anyone can get attention, but only interest converts. Attention is then third on the scale. At best.
