I'm 51 years old and I used to compete in car audio competitions with sound quality only and also always had nice setups at home. One thing I learned is to quit chasing the drug that is perfect sound. It'll never be achieved you get to a certain point where you're spending lots and lots of money for just little bits of quality. I now have a Yamaha dedicated amplifier Riga turntable and Bowers and Wilkins speakers and a marantz CD player. It's not perfect by any means but the sound keeps me entertained and that's what it's all about. I wish you made more videos

I was in vacation in Paris, and we were sitting in a small cafe, when this familiar song we used to love, started playing in the background .. I swear, the sound wasn't good- in fact it was pretty bad- but at the end we were moved to tears .. not because of the bad sound, but for all our memories connected, to this amazing song.. just sayin', crappy sound isn't always bad.. ;-)

Great talk! My dad was a musician and a sound man. A lot of people wounded why I spend good money on vinyl and audio equipment. Basically it makes me very happy. I’m a few levels lower on audio than you two. When I hooked up my pro-ject record player I definitely needed a EQ so I got a schiit audio Loki and also a inexpensive behringer as a back up. Helped out so much. I missed a month off work to COVID. I pretty much listened and played more music than anytime of my life. Yes I also agree music back in the day was in general was MUCH better. Listen to a nice sound system is like going to the planetarium when I was a kid. Although I also love car audio.

It sounds like the Quad surround sound device you were speaking of uses something like the Hafler circuit! en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hafler_circuit

The 2 rear speaker setup might work good for the few quad recordings from the 70s or some old prog rock bands like Pink Floyd, Yes, etc. Or set them up as time delay for the "live room" effect. My old Carver preamp has that cool function. Every generations' music is special to them. Heck, my dad hated the "noise" of rock. Big bands were his gen.
