Күн бұрын

The video is a piano lesson with Warren discussing the Augmented seventh chord.
"augmented" means to expand or make more extensive, contrasting with "diminished," which means to compress or make smaller.
To create an Augmented seventh chord, you raise the fifth note of any major chord by half a step.
The Augmented seventh chord is symmetric, consisting of two stacked major thirds.
There are only four unique Augmented triads, but when a seventh is added, there are 12 different seventh chords.

Warren, you made me realize something that never occurred to me before. The math of diminished chords is an inversion of augmented chord math. Meaning, there are only three diminished 7th chords (made up of 4 tones each... 3 chords x 4 tones = 12). And OPPOSITELY, there are only four augmented triads (comprised of three tones each... 4 chords x 3 tones = 12). Our 12 tone scale is endlessly fascinating and never ceases to amaze me!

@PianoLessonwithWarren
@PianoLessonwithWarren 5 жыл бұрын
Nicolas Lelong the altered has an altered 5th and 9th, it’s not a conclusion chord, too much dissonance end a song. The altered is usually used on the 5 chord, or in a passing chord passage

You're the best, Warren! Thanks for all you do! Your videos are so helpful! On the AUG7, it works great with a 2-5 passing. If in the key of C, and if I want to get to IV (F), I can do a 2-5 passing to go to 4. The chords: Gmin9, Caug7, Fmaj9. Where is the 2? I thought the 2 is Dmin in the key of C?? So I'm a bit confused on how the 2-5 passing was used?
@PianoLessonwithWarren
@PianoLessonwithWarren Жыл бұрын
The 2 is Gm7. 2-5-1 passing is a concept; we’re temporary tonicizing F to make it the “1” which make Gm=2 and C=5
