One minor suggestion would be to change the permissions on the autoload file when done to read only so it doesn't accidentally get overwritten. When you need to make changes to the template, just change it back temporarily to read and write.

That is a good suggestion. Sometime I forget that I am in the AutoLoad and start recording audio then realize it is adding the audio to the AutoLoad audio folder. I have backups of my AutoLoads in case. But your suggestion is a good one! Thanks for the comment!

Hi George - I’ve just finished setting up my auto load - as a new Logic user I wanted to set it right from the start, so thanks! I was wondering - for vocals, do you apply comp, de-esser, etc on the track or also on busses? Or are your busses just for time type effects like reverb & delay? Would your ‘Vocal’ bus be setup as a full channel strip, or would you do this on a separate send before your reverb/delay bus? Hope this makes sense!
@GGabrielMusic
@GGabrielMusic 6 ай бұрын
Good question! Sometimes I put compression and EQ on the track level (usually when it wasn't recorded with proper gain or the vocals need frequency adjustments) - Then I output all the vocal tracks to the vocal bus. On the vocal bus is usually where I compress and EQ the vocals. If I want to add reverb or delay to the vocals, then I SEND each vocal I want reverb and/or delay (via the send on the TRACK) to my FX AUX's that have the reverb and delay. Hope this makes sense. If not please reach back out. Thanks for your question!

To clarify, every track I send to FX aux. automatically creates New Aux. and does not route to the FX Auxes I created.

Thanks for all the great videos so far. Looking forward to what you come up with to show us next. I am curious about why not save these as a template in logic? Was that not available when you started?
@GGabrielMusic
@GGabrielMusic 7 ай бұрын
Not when I started making my own AutoLoads, but you certainly can save these as templates - I like to have them as a master session I can go to and not use the template route - in my mind the template route may have hang ups - plus after 29 years doing it this way and it working, I can't seem to see a benefit of using it as a template. Thanks for the comment - and yes, there is much more to come in many different areas!

George Thanks for all your video's about the autoload. I am stuck with Kontakt multi instrument. I have done all the settings in the environment but the command f6 does not work to get a new track. With f6 I get another screenset. Have you a solution?
@GGabrielMusic
@GGabrielMusic 5 ай бұрын
Go into your Key Commands and make sure F6 is not assigned to something else. That might be what you are experiencing. There is a tab on top of the Key Commands screen that is titled CONFLICTS - see if there is a conflict there. Alternatively, reassign the 'New Track with Next Channel' command again with F6, and the Key Command Assignments will tell you if there is a conflict and ask you if you want to replace a prior assigned command that F6 has with the new command. Let me know if this solves your problem. Thanks for reaching out!

Questions: in the T.A.B.s Mixing Workflow Chart, the chartreuse lines show the violet Fx Auxiliaries route to the Fx Return. As I build my Autoload, do I interpret correctly that I should route the Fx Auxes to Fx Return, which routes to Stereo Out (as do the buses)? Thanks!
@GGabrielMusic
@GGabrielMusic 7 ай бұрын
Yes - Bottom line: Tracks route to the Instrument Busses (1-8), Track Sends (for Aux FX) route to the Aux FX (via busses 20-23 or how ever many Aux FX you have - eg. if you have 6 Aux FX then it would be busses 20-26) All FX Aux's output to Bus 9 (FX Return Bus) - ALL busses 1-9 route to Stereo Out. Hope this clears things up!!

Help! When I send inst. 1 to FX1 it creates a new bus 9. I notice yours just activated FX1. Any ideas? I think something went wrong in setting this up. Other question. If I want to go back to my original settings either to start over or go back to what I’m used to, how do I restore that? I notice all projects now have the bus and aux setup from the changes I did in environment. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
@GGabrielMusic
@GGabrielMusic 7 ай бұрын
What were the bus numbers you assigned to your effects inputs? Your Aux FX each should have separate busses as inputs (different then the busses you have for collecting instruments) - so, when you use a track send to the Aux FX, you send it on that bus you assigned for the input on that Aux effect. If there is no input assigned or if you just send a track send to an unassigned bus, it will create that bus. That seems to be what happened.

merry christmas George I got all the way to part 7 in the auto laod. after saving everything. I go to see how things sound. then I relized I put a few thing in the wrong way. some how on the get go I assigned the input-out put the wrong way and when all the way through tell autoload 7. so when I went back in to see how thing sounded thats when I relized I loaded a few things wrong on the aux and sends where you assign the reverb on each aux. so when I go back to start all over again when I get to where you start by changing you stereo in put-output to 1 it showes what channals are assigned. anyway it will not let me start a new autoload it keeps showing assigned outputs every time. so is there a way to start fresh with out it showing this. I would like to get things back on logic pro to show stero outs on start up. then start fresh again autoload . but it want let me do that because it keeps showing what I loaded wrong. thanks for any help

Merry Christmas to you too!! Anything should be able to be fixed in the AutoLoad. It is just a matter of going back the Environment and resetting the things that were wrong. Although, you are making me thing of doing a step by step written protocol for this. The stereo can be changed and then saved and it should be good - but it would have to be for every session your saved post making the Autoload. Let me know if this helps - if not, maybe you can send me your session and I'll see what happened.

thanks for your help. okay so if I go back In to autoload and try to fix things where I made the mistake when I open the file to change things on output 1 its showing the number of effects on number 1 I try to reassign 1 but it just goes down to stereo. let me ask it this way is there a way to get my aux effects numbers off of number 1 output. one more thing. lets say your setting up your busses or your aux and you get past that point then you see you did something wrong and you want to go back and change it before you through that part. can you fix it without having to reload autoload. not trying to worry you George I am new to Logic Pro and Im new working on a computer. so Im a little slow but I do want to learn this autoload way. thanks George
@GGabrielMusic
@GGabrielMusic 7 ай бұрын
The AutoLoad is basically a template. Once you have it set up correctly and save it, then you use that AutoLoad to start every new session you have - but FIRST saving it as your new session name. So, when I start a new piece of music, I first open my AutoLoad then save it as whatever my new session is going to be - not changing the original AutoLoad. If you have an AutoLoad not properly set up, then your session will not be properly set up. So the first thing to do is follow the videos in order to set up your AutoLoad and complete that process. Then you are ready to use the AutoLoad. I know I am giving you a simple overview, but I think that should be first stated. IF you find there is an issue with your AutoLoad, then you open your AutoLoad, fix the issue, and save your AutoLoad - but every prior session that was stated with the AutoLoad with that issue, will also have the issue. I don't fully understand what your issues are by the way you are describing your issues. For instance I am not sure what you are saying then you gave me: "to change things on output 1 its showing the number of effects on number 1 I try to reassign 1 but it just goes down to stereo" - the things that are unclear are 'to change things on output 1' change what things? Also, 'its showing the number of effects on number 1 I try to reassign 1 but it just goes down to stereo' I don't know what 'number of effects on number 1' means - on the track level, bus level, aux? and then 'it just goes down to stereo' what goes down to stereo? are you talking outputs, inputs? Because the numbers could be outputs or inputs - but the use of the word 'stereo' implies the mono/stereo state of the track (or aux, or bus) Also don't understand this: " is there a way to get my aux effects numbers off of number 1 output" - What do you mean by 'numbers'? Forgive me for not understanding, I just need more accurate terminology to fully understand what your issues are.

Since I did The Autoload, opening a new project, logic opens with the template. I want to open a clear project and choose the template when I need it. @@GGabrielMusic
@GGabrielMusic
@GGabrielMusic 6 ай бұрын
So, there are a couple of ways to do this. First off, I recommend that you open Logic, set your Logic Settings>General under the tab Project Handling, chose the Startup Action of 'Do Nothing' and Logic will just open up without opening anything or asking to open a project. Then you can choose what you want to do at that point (open recent, open template, etc.). I also put my AutoLoad Logic session in my Dock so I can just open up my AutoLoad with one click on my Dock. Hope this info is helpful!

Pls tell us why you chose not to simply use the "+" buttons from the main page to populate the autoload. As opposed to doing things in the environment. Not clear on the advantage...one could simply change the routing and naming from the mixer as well......thx again!
@GGabrielMusic
@GGabrielMusic 7 ай бұрын
The plus button is stock Logic and it comes with things as Logic defines them versus what you define - so the advantage of using the Environment, is that you can pre-determine bus assignments, sends, icons, outputs, and a host of other things. I score episodic TV and the name of the game is efficiency in workflow. The less noodling I have to do with standard mixing maneuvers, the faster my workflow is. Also, the Environment allows you to pre-set up Busses and Auxes to be defined for the best mixing workflow. (T.A.B.S.) You can even set up your standard Compression/EQs on your busses, preferred effects on Auxes ahead of time so you are mix-ready. There are so many advantages of using the Environment that there are too many to list in a reply. And even if you are not worried about the 'speed' of getting things done, to have a setup that is routed and ready to go is like having a clean studio - it's good for the mental approach to writing. Hope this all makes sense. Thanks for commenting!

Thanks!! Yeah - over the years, I have been refining my workflow to become more and more efficient. A few years ago I had 5 episodic shows at one time - I didn't know if I was coming or going having to deliver for 5 clients on a weekly episodic schedule - it nearly killed me. But I became extremely efficient as I had to deliver around 100 minutes of score a week. There will be some upcoming videos showcasing some of the workflow streamlining I use - especially for live instruments as I play as many as I can to stand out from folks who just use midi - Thanks for the dialog!!
