James spader is really good at playing the wise and cultured character, more specifically wise and cultured villains, guys who quote Shakespeare, consume expensive indulgent foods, etc, like the best way I can describe his vibe, is like an old world noble/capitalist who persists into the modern age.

@@greenhawk3796 not necessarily. Ultron in most incarnations just has an open mouth and the more human voice can be much creepier coming out of his jack-o'-lantern like face. His initial appearance as an iron man drone is evident of that. Very unsettling in my opinion

The best proof I've seen of James Spader being a captivating actor, apart from things like being the only reason a terrible show like Blacklist can keep running, is a scene in Boston Legal. He frequently makes impassioned speeches in the courtroom and at the start of one episode he's doing his closing statements and suddenly starts talking gibberish. And he delivers it with the same gusto and passion. "You aren't sailing past honour for the liking of a room. These questions are birthday basements. To end the blue raddish is the upside of luxury and sparking a good lizard can only make tears fall in hindsight. Puddles do not ask for why not. It is cheese. Breathe. And wind. It is cheese." In spite of the nonsense words his delivery makes it clear he's talking about something that's essential and important to your humanity. I mean, I assume, we never know what the case was about this was just in a cold open. But his delivery made it clear.

having worked in mocap, I would say, that over acting in the suit is the worst thing you can do. the cameras are calibrated to detect 2X 3mm markers adjacent to each other moving at high frequency. there's a shot in avatar where jake is about to jump on the dragon, and jakes acting looks like someone in a mocap suit trying to act still instead of being still.
