Honestly, very much agree with a lot of your points (the pain is the shadow of joy line needed work though). However I can't fault bungie at all considering how horrible the community has treated the devs since like... forever. it's always been about how the new stuff is worse and all their content sucks. personal attacks and death threats even went to the devs. I just feel like giving us anything at this point that isn't just a cash grab is far more than the community deserves. The ViDoc comments were just disgusting honestly. Bungie gives more content than any other game I can think of and they are still attacked, not to mention the devs are super sweet and the team actually cares. sorry for the rant, the destiny team just deserves a nap

Cayde was funny when he could afford it, but took a situation seriously when he had to. Nimbus feels like a person who should definitely not be given any kind of responsibility, ever.

It's quite surprising that they make the same mistake with Nimbus that they made with Red War Cayde, making him more jokes and nonsense than skill and nuance, at least until Forsaken, and then DOUBLED DOWN on the nonsense for Nimbus. As if they hadn't learned at all from Cayde.
@maiselph7456

@@Warriorcat_KZfaq I've always seen Cayde fooling around during Red War (like his idea with the teleporter, which we actually ended up going with btw) more as desperation. Losing the Light hit him hard and he's trying to cover it up with forced jokes.

@@maiselph7456 To look at it in universe, yes that would make sense. But ever since Red War released, it was obvious that they cranked up his funny guyness from the get-go because people loved it in Taken King. It wasn't nearly as bad as Nimbus, but it was certainly in the same vein.

@@BethesdaModderthe whole needing to shoot at our ghost in the end was mostly shot in the foot by the fact they failed to give us a solid idea of what the witness even plans to do when the veil links with the traveler. Because of this it just looks like our guardian is randomly shooting our ghost, even if they're under possession. If we actually knew the significance of ghost flying up to the veil, we'd know the significance of having to shoot at our ghost. In the end this suddenly potentially drastic decision by our guardian is saved by the bell and the witness winning so we can spend 50 more bucks or whatever on the next dlc. The guardian had plenty of time to try and just grab them too, especially a hunter or titan with catapult lift. It seems to be nightfall was a bunch of solid ideas strung together without real thought for cohesion. Like they thought "we'll surprise them by making the guardian have to shoot ghost, but what if the witness actually succeeds too!" and then further deciding that combing both scenes into one would add more emotional value or something. Like maybe it would give a double sense of dismay. "Oh no, my ghost! Oh no, my traveler!"

There's something everyone seems to have missed. Exo Stranger had one of those Neomuna ghost things, she probably didn't get it in our timeline (it's not impossible that she did) but since she has one it means she has been to Neomuna, and she never made mention that the entire city was there. Even if is was totally destroyed in the timeline she came from the idea that she knew there was the possibility it was there, which meant she should have told everyone about it and saved us so much trouble.

@Femto What do you mean though, "it was all intentional"? They told a story badly on purpose? What do they gain from doing that? Were they angry they got a bit of praise for The Witch Queen's narrative? Of course they played it before shipping it, that doesn't mean there was time or resources to really do anything about it even if they all agreed it was a bad story. And it's not like the expansion is unplayable or broken, it just has a crap, filler story and bland characters. Literally no studio is gonna cancel or even delay a game/expansion launch if they think their story is disappointing.

I still think the calus aspect of the lightfall story should have revolved around his love for us, the guardian. He adores us, showers us with gifts, wants us to be his shadow and greatest champion. His story would have been amazing if they would have focused on how much he had lost in pursuit of his support of the darkness, and then when the witness tells him to kill us and betray his daughter, he realizes how he's too deep to back out and refuse. He makes his refusal but the witness controls his body and forces his to fight us, powerless to resist. We would end up killng him by the witness forcing our hand to do so, making calus both the bad guy and a martyr. It would have given him the tragic, anti hero story of a deeply flawed man trying desperately to pursue what he thought would make things better.

Honestly, the biggest misstep with Strand is that took a similar approach with its introduction as they did with Stasis. I think it worked with stasis because Beyond Light was primarily about Stasis, and the Pyramid on Europa was trying to tempt us to the darkness with Stasis, so it made sense to drip feed us. Lightfall didn't seem like it was supposed to be about Strand, it seemed like it was supposed to be about the Witness and the impending calamity, and yet basically most of the expansion was dedicated to us learning Strand, with Osiris and your ghost saying that it's a powerful tool to have so we need to learn it, but not specifying why it's really necessary to prioritise learning Strand now, over just using the extensive power we currently have to help defend the Veil and learn Strand later, until literally the mission where we need it to destroy the suppressor things that are immune to damage from all of our known powers, making Strand our "key" to victory, except we also don't need it for the final mission either so. Honestly if we had gotten the Strand subclass like half-way through the campaign, it would have been better, especially from a gameplay perspective, because we'd actually be able to build around it properly and incorporate it into our arsenal. Somehow in the expansion that championed loadouts as well as more accessible build-crafting, just didn't let us do that with Strand for the actual campaign, instead we get a demo version that is basically pointless to even use for many of the encounters on legendary difficulty because you don't have a build for it. Like the story isn't even THAT bad in a vacuum, it just feels like this is the kind of story for an expansion like Witch queen, where we're getting closer to the end of this big saga, but we're not a single expansion away. But as it stands, it's just disappointing. This is the expansion where some real answers needed to happen, and ultimately all we got were more questions.
@Goldleader469
@Goldleader469 Жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure there's a few sources that state directly that strand was meant for 'The Witch Queen' but for delayed development purposes was pushed back to lightfall. Strand was supposed to be found in the portals or whatever they were called. That's why the story feels so, wrong? That's the only way I can put it.
@ashb7
@ashb7 Жыл бұрын
@@Goldleader469 Yeah, there's evidence of that in Witch Queen itself, though we couldn't know about then cause we had no idea about Strand, lol. But looking back now it makes total sense. The aesthetic of Strand fits in perfectly with TWQ- insect/arachnid-based web powers when the antagonist is a giant moth. Like, the Warlock Strand super was supposed to turn us into a literal spider at some point in development. Strand deals with threads- the debuff Savathun hits us with to freeze us is called "Threadbound"; the buff we gain in the last mission before taking her down is called "Threadcutter". Story wise it would've made total sense- Savs steals the Light and its abilities, so we steal these Darkness powers from her realm in return and use it to beat her and the Hive Lightbearers. Activating Deepsight kinda comes out of nowhere- it would've made far more sense if Deepsight was tied to our new Strand powers. Speaking of Deepsight, probably the simplest and clearest indicator that Strand was tied to Deepsight- whenever you reveal stuff in the Throne World through Deepsight, you grow a third eye on your forehead. Guess which three subclass' supers also grant you a third eye on activation? These are only a few points off the top of my head, there's probably far more in-game linking the two. But at least to Bungie's credit they managed to tell a coherent and good story in TWQ and it never felt like a massive component was shifted out. Sadly Lightfall had to take the fall for that decision though.

Some other plot holes I noticed: >If Neptune wasn't transported to a different reality that the Witness couldn't find, then how did it stay hidden? Magnetic fields and clouds all operate within the domain of Newtonian physics. Are you telling me that a being who can command gravity as just one among many weapons in his paracausal arsenal couldn't find a planet? And if he knew where Neptune was, was he so stupid that he didn't think to take a small look? >Why do Cloud Striders exist if they haven't been needed since their civil war or whatever ended and they'd fought off the Vex? >How did the Vex find Neomuna? >Since the Neomuni have Mary Sue nanomachines (son) more powerful than SIVA and the technology and resources to upload people's consciousness to a virtual world, whey would they bother with human soldiers? >If Cloud Striders are such units that they can outmuscle stronger-than-SIVA nanomachines, why could they not repel Calus? Why could they not load an oil drum of nanomachines into a catapult and fire it at Calus' ship to give them their own SIVA crisis? >With the technology, energy, and infrastructure to upload a city's worth of consciousness to a virtual world, the Neomuni couldn't create longer-living Cloud Striders? Bungie has done their research in the past - even if it's just for technobabble. They should know just how massive a task it would be just to store a human mind in a digital format. LAZY WRITING >And thinking it necessary to make literal human sacrifices for the sake of safety, they didn't think to keep the Ishtar Collective's defense turrets on? >How did Neomuna's founders escape the Darkness during the Collapse? >If you just need chaotic magnetic fields to throw off a pyramid fleet, why not weaponize it at the very least? Clovis Bray had the technology to create singularities in the Golden Age, and gravity is much more complex than magnetism. >Does the Witness not regard the Vex as an asset? Just hack their sensors and use them as free scouts? Monitoring the Vex would have been an easy way to learn about Neptune - other than the fact that Neptune maintains a predictable orbit and whose location could be easily extrapolated therefrom. >And despite Neomuna's isolation, they still know about the warlords of Dark Age Earth, being able to monitor Earth without their own sensor equipment ever being sniffed out by the Witness, Cabal, any Fallen house, Ikora and the Hidden, and any of the very capable seers in the Reef. >I suppose the magnetic fields and clouds would guard against an assault from the Ascendant Plane. >Why does the Witness even bother with a fleet when he could instead use the power at his disposal to open a portal to the Ascendant Plane? >Why is Strand considered a force of Darkness when there is nothing about it that's thematically tied to Darkness? >Nimbus' speech about life force and rivers could easily apply to Arc or Solar Light. >Why does Strand only manifest on Neptune? >If the Veil is responsible, then that would make the Veil a conduit of Darkness, and who was it again that wears the Darkness like a cloak? >How'd Elsie get a Pouka? >What's the Pouka's connection to Strand? More to come as I think of them. Also, my guy, it looks like something is wrong with your legs.

There could have been plenty of EPIC stories made in Destiny, but every time they flop the DLC and very sloppily close plot holes. Like the Stranger plot line/hole being solved/elaborated on from a plot point in 2014 all the way to 2020. Its bad writing to let a plot simmer for 6 years and 2 games

I’m convinced that whoever wrote the dialogue and story for that expansion probably wasn’t hired based on merit. That level of writing demonstrates a lack of sophistication typically exhibited by very new, teenage writers. It’s bad fan fiction that you feel gross/ secondhand embarrassment for listening, watching, or reading. Also, just because you get paid to write (“professional”) doesn’t mean your work is good at any level. Constructive criticism is perfectly valid regardless of whether you’re in the field or not

@mobiuscoreindustries
@mobiuscoreindustries Жыл бұрын
To be honest we absolutely are going to get there at some point. Again the main issue isn't that the veil isn't explained, since it is clear they needed to add an uncovering time period to justify the split between lightfall and final shape. However the issue is everyone in the campaign acts like they know and THEN talk that they do not know shit and actually need to figure it out. The story would have been still mid but it would have been far better if we were simply forced to react to the witness, knowing he was suddenly going for something on Neptune but neither know what or where. Osiris could have had a hint that it was something important linked to the paracausal, and the cloud striders obviously would not take this lying down. But having everyone seemingly know what the veil is yet never acting upon that knowledge is just infuriating

Can we ALL AGREE that Bungie constantly DELETING OLDER CONTENT from previous DLC, but yet STILL having the audacity to NOT make them FREE AND INCLUDED IN FUTURE BUNDLES the absolutely BIGGEST SCAM EVER!!! They have the NERVE to still demand MONEY for the Forsaken DLC, even though the ENTIRE campaign and dungeons have been deleted. Its the MAIN reason I will NOT be returning to Destiny until they do. If you wanted to buy all the DLC, including the new one coming out, it would cost a new or returning player over $200!!!!!!
