I also liked playing it on PC, probably because I was such a huge Tolkien fan. A friend of mine from our local LOTR gang did not want to play it but already agreed to write an article for “My home gaming computer” magazine (a long vanished magazine every schoolboy with a PC was reading in 2000s in Ukraine). So I told him the game is badly programmed (confirming that with stupid screenshots like Gollum full of arrows who looked like a hedgehog), but actually has some nice vibe that a Tolkien fan can enjoy; he generated some text and it was published…

I think the studio should get credit for imagining this world, in the own vision without being jaded by movie adaptions. It is a book adaption. This is not particularly easy, whereas although EA made definitely better action games, they're copy and pasted digital textures style and music repurposed from 7-8 years of work done by other people(usually the best at their craft like Howard Shore) this was the first attempt at a story adventure game that nobody had tried before, with the addition of the extensive lore of LOTR it was always gonna be different. I give alot of credit for this game, even if the mechanics are under developed. includes Nazgul chase, Barrow Wights, Old Man Willow and Tom Bombadil. It is a fairly faithful adaption. Most people look down on this solely because it's not Peter Jackson's. It's still better than Rings of Power By Amazon.

@@skizz0phrenia270 Idk, they just haven't ever read the _The Lord of the Rings_ books and have only seen the 3 Peter Jackson films (and maybe the Ralph Bakshi animated film too). Which is the same for many people, so there are certain aspects & characters & side-plots of the saga that they won't know about, as both Bakshi and Jackson omitted Tom Bombadil from the story, as the parts of the story that he appears in are kinda inconsequential and can very easily be omitted without it harming the overall narrative whatsoever. With a sheepish glance at his leader, who looked wrathful but did not dare to interfere, Shirriff Smallburrow fell back and walked beside Sam.... 'Look here, Cock-robin!' said Sam. 'You're Hobbiton-bred and ought to have more sense, coming a-waylaying Mr. Frodo and all. And what's all this about the inn being closed?' 'They're all closed,' said Robin. 'The Chief doesn't hold with beer. Leastways that is how it started. But now I reckon it's his Men that has it all. And he doesn't hold with folk moving about; so if they will or they must, then they has to go to the Shirriff-house and explain their business.'" Never expected this small obscure side character to appear in the games :). "'You ought to be ashamed of yourself having anything to do with such nonsense,' said Sam. Listen, this game is no Two Towers or Return of the King, but as a kid, this game was my favorite in that it let you explore the Shire, Bree, Moria and you got to play as Frodo and Gandalf. As a kid I liked the music, I like the ability to control the camera, and it was the first of these games that let you play as Gandalf. It’s easy to look back and be like Return of the King is so much better, but when this game came out and it was this and the Two Towers, this game had some charm to it. It’s not like we knew games like Return of the King or Shadow of War would ever come out. To call it the awful game that nobody played is unfair to the time it came out in. This was the first game my parents bought with my xbox for christmas. I didn't have any other games so I had no choice but to play this. I rage quit pretty early out of frustration with the ringwraith stealth mission, but I eventually came back and finished it. As a fan of the first movie which got me to read the books, I was able to have fun with it despite the obvious flaws.

It's nice to see what else happens, since our copy growing up was glitched so you couldn't save after you cross the bridge to leave the Shire after avoiding the first Ringwraith. It would say it saved, but when you died or stopped playing and reloaded, it would go back to the bridge in the Shire lol. We got to meet Tom Bombadil at least but being kids, we got annoyed eventually and played the other Lord of the Rings games that we could save 😂

The third age is the bane of my existence, no matter how much I enjoy it. I have, to this day, never gotten past a certain massive wave of enemies in that game, it just seems like an endless wave lmao I started that game when I was like...14, 30 now and I still have the save data hell bent on beating it one day.

Well you see son, in LOTR universe there are 5 kinds of people: No powers, Hero powers, Magic powers, Overpowered, and Hilariously Godly Overpowered. And then there's Tom Bombadil, who could have just danced into Mordor, punched Sauron in the eye, kicked Melkor in the nuts, set everything right, and be back before lunchtime all while wearing The Ring as a piercing on his dlck. If only he gave a fuck.

How fitting to compare the hobbits to the Beatles--one of the older movie pitches (obviously the plans fell through) involved casting the Beatles as the four hobbits. I wonder if they'd've made it more jokey overall and thrown in goofy shit like calling the pool at the gates of Moria "the octopus' garden' or had "A Little Help from My Friends" playing as the Fellowship was hiking.

I have a vague memory playing the game when I was a kid and at the time didn’t know a thing about Lord of the Rings, so I couldn’t understand what was going on😂The two things I remember about it is that I really liked the way nature was shown (the trees, the flowers and etc because it was unusual for the time) and the horrifying Dark Rider! I was super scared of him and never finished the game because of it😅 So I thank you for the hilarious video and nostalgia😁
