this vid really isnt a lesson but its by far the best thing youtube has when it comes to this song. good job on this vid but the other youtube lesson vids on this song are almost unbelievably bad. theese youtube lessons for rock lobster are the worst i have ever come across when trying to learn ANY song on youtube....so koodos to the dude that did this one. in my opinion....up until the 5 minute mark, this song is just kind of funny and weird....but cool. right at the 5 minute mark the b-52s really hit the funk aspect of it and turn it into a really funky guitar piece. the first whole part of the song is really easy to learn but at the 5 minute mark it gets alot trickier to do it right...all the while adding in that serious funk and rhythm that makes us all just wanna rock n roll. THAT, is the part of this song that needs the actual teaching....the first 3 quarters of the song can be played by any idiot...as the other youtube vids have proven beyond a doubt....and even the easiest stuff is done terrible lol. i like this vid though.

5:12 the song enters another dimension. is that tuned in E?
@101Volts6 жыл бұрын
Low to high: CFxxFF. x = no string in the slot. The song's tuned in 445 Hz (slightly higher pitched,) not the standard 440. -The whole first album's in 445 HZ; that may or may not be a production oversight.- Some songs on the first album, but not all, are in 445 hz.
@laughingdaffodils54505 жыл бұрын
@@101Volts Thanks for the tuning. I don't know in this case but very often albums in 445 or higher are because they were sped up ever so slightly in the studio.
@101Volts4 жыл бұрын
@@laughingdaffodils5450 You're welcome. It turns out, though, that I was wrong about the entire album being in 445; the songs "52 Girls" and "6060-842" are not in 445, for example. Dance This Mess Around, Rock Lobster, Lava, and There's A Moon In The Sky (Called The Moon) are in 445 though.

LONG LIVE RICKY!
@scottoleson19978 ай бұрын
This instantly makes me think of Thurston Moore, Presidents of the USA, and other artists that decided to remove strings instead of adding more, (7, 8, 9 string guitars). Limitations breed creativity
@101Volts3 ай бұрын
Ricky tended to use 5 string tunings most often. However, the thinnest two on most of his tunings were normally the same string gauge, tuned in unison. You might also want to check out the band Morphine, since Mark Sandman gave the idea of 2 and 3 string guitars to Chris Ballew of The Presidents. But don't expect Morphine songs to sound anything like The Presidents.

tab, for this? you're kidding, right? watch his fingers, there's like eight notes or something and it's all linear single note lines, alternately picked. not a chord to be found. it's like playing twinkle, twinkle little star...even a bonehead can learn this ;p just tune your guitar to that retarded open tuning and there ya go

alright, there are a couple of power chords, but c'mon ;p

The only person who could explain the 4 strings died in 1985.
@mistermoonlight17196 жыл бұрын
slackerVK if I were to guess, its most likey one of either of these two things. Either he did it so that way he wouldn't accidentally hit any strings that he wasn't wanting to / to keep the sound straight and pure / no unwanted open strings being hit, Or to remember easier what strings to play for riffs. But idk.
@mistermoonlight17196 жыл бұрын
slackerVK I would think so he wouldn't accidentally hit any unwanted open strings

Al Disley .
@101Volts5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what Ricky's reasoning was, but from a practical perspective, it's almost like Mister Moonlight said; you must not have strings there which shouldn't be hit.

What’s the tuning tho
@101Volts Жыл бұрын
CFxxFF, (x means no string in that slot,) tuned slightly sharp; in 444 Hz, instead of the standard 440 Hz. However, you'll never get the same tone without the same weird string gauges.
