Yes, please do one for Head. I’m struggling trying to find the right racquet. Changing from my Prince 03 Speedport Black. I tried many brands and zeroed in on the Head Speed Pro for the control, then found it too heavy. Moved on to the Speed MP. Having a hard time controlling the ball and the sweet spot seems small. Some of your analysis on Head may help!

Started playing my new 18x20 Strikes coming from the Pure Storm a couple of months ago. The high (ish) swing weight and dead weight really helps a number of shots. from backhand slice to dropshots, volley and serve. Still struggling with timing on my forehand though. It really makes itself felt in my wrist when you're late on that one. Maybe I'll try out an Aero VS or Strike VS from that point of view. My sister recently switched from a (very, very old) Völkl C8 Pro to the Pure Aero on recommendation of her kids' coach....holy crap. She doesn't play a lot these days but she generates heavenly amounts spin and a lot more pace with that one compared to that antique C8 without sacrificing any control (seemingly)....

As I said he's new, but an athletic kid that's a quick learner. Which Babolat racquet do you think fits him? From the video, I'm thinking the Aero as I know he's trying to work on being more technical as far as curving his serves and slicing and such. Thanks!

did u try the 2022 yonex ezone 100? is it better than pure drive 2021?
@sjjapp
@sjjapp Жыл бұрын
@@Ellison.Gaming nobody can possibly comment on every single comment like this that gets repeated day in day out. Unfortunately. I say unfortunately because you're starting with a false platform for a fair and real comparison. I'll explain. No racket is actually better than another. Most rackets are equal. At least among bigger brands. A pure strike is no better than a pure drive which is not better than a blade which is no better than a vcore 95 and so and so forth. The reason is simple. We've reached a point where manufacturers have established what to do to get what qualities. You want control, a lot launch angle, precision etc? It's currently impossible to make that into a pure drive. You want lots of energy return, high launch angles, great access to spin and so on? You can't put that into a blade 98. The reason is simple. To get qualities X and Y, a racket must balance it's design choices to get it. And different brands will end up with similar results when going after a similar formula. So a pure drive is similar to an ezone 100 which is similar to a Dunlop FX 500 which is similar to a Wilson ultra 100 and so on. They share may of the same design choices because those design choices create that kind of performance. But they alter the formula to create unique versions of that formula. So a 2021 pure drive and a 2022 Yonex Ezone 100 follow many of the same/similar design choices and are aimed at largely the same user base. However, they each have their own take on the formula. The pure drive, because of its design choices, has easier access to spin, a higher launch angle, more energy return, and a crisper feel. The ezone has a more controlled/lower launch, slightly better precision, a slightly more connected feel at contact, and is slightly easier on the arm. Nobody can say one is better than the other. What you can say is which is better for you. But you'll ultimately play well with either if this formula suits your game, but if you try both, you'll prefer one over the other. Using tennis warehouse data, which you'll find on tennis warehouse university, something of note is this. The ezone feels like it has a wider/bigger sweetspot, but it might be an illusion. That increased comfort/sweetspot feeling doesn't actually seem to translate to improved forgivness outside of middle of racket. In fact, both rackets perform similarly in the very center of the stringbed, but the pure drive starts to get more powerful and stable in upperhoop (where topspin players will make contact) and outer edges of hitting zone. The ezone would need customisation to match pure drive here, but the point is that the pure drive achieves better power and stability and has a better hittable area at same spec. This is likely down to the higher RA.

@@Ellison.Gaming Yonex feel like they have larger sweetspots. That was what I was saying there. Per head size they feel more forgiving. But the data indicates that Babolat rackets, which are typically thought of as having smaller sweetspots, actually have more effective and wider hitting areas per head size. Just repeating in case I made a typo or something. Re design choices, I assume a big role in this is the higher RA of Babolat rackets. High RA if all other factors are equal leads to increased energy return and stability, which in this case would help with shots outside the perfect hitting areas of stringbed.

I have a strike and have liked it. But it is on the stuff side and if I'm late can hurt my wrist and bow. I have a drive that I picked up used and it is much more forgiving and I feel I can add spin easier. I suspect the string tension varies a lot so I plan to restring both to match. I'm going to get an aero to try. I feel like these reviews try but between the coded jargon and the generalities, it is hard to get the sound from a story in a magazine.

Great video Harry. Can you do a video on extended length racquets? What is the advantages or disadvantage between the like yonex vcore 100 and vcore 100 plus?
@sjjapp
@sjjapp Жыл бұрын
Reach is biggest advantage it offers. It affects other variables with it. It may sound like such a small difference when you factor in most extended rackets fall between a 1/4 inch to 1 inch or so extra in length, but makes a big difference in the real world. Especially so the better a player you are and the higher the level of competition. Extra reach can allow you to hit a higher contact point on serves for example, which can affect bounce height etc of serve. Extra reach can give you more reach in general. Extra reach can help increase force and spin of a shot. A few examples of pros using extended length rackets include Isner, Djokovic, and Ruud, and Serena. The weaknesses of an extended length racket include time. It takes more time for racket to come around to contact and through ball because there's more of it. If you're not customising, it's worth factoring in that most extended frames I've been aware of over the years that you buy at retail extended will come with higher swing weights than their standard length counterparts. This can further take time away from you. But, it will increase stability and power.

Great video, I do miss some recommendation to what Babolat model a newbeginner should go for. Maybe you rather want to point the person towards a Clash100, or something more forgiving. But when doing these 1 brand explanation videos I'd like you to think about the scenario where there is a adult between 18-60 years old, newbeginner, standing in your store who wants to buy a racquet of this particular brand (that you are explaining the modelrange of). I assume for Babolat it would be the regular PureDrive with Multifilament-strings?

For anyone from beginner to lower intermediate, pick any racket from following or similar one not listed. String it in 40s (lbs) if going with a poly string. List: Babolat: Pure Drive, Pure Aero Yonex: Ezone 100, Vcore 100 Head: Head Instinct, Head Speed, Head Extreme mp Wilson: Ultra 100, Burn 100 Dunlop: SX 300, Fx 500 The reason you can choose any of above is this. They all make similar design choices for a similar performance type. At beginner to low intermediate level, they will provide all that you need. Any one of them. Pick whichever is cheapest or looks the coolest to you. If you want a recommendation, go with pure aero or pure drive. Choose depending on whether you like blue or yellow better as a colour. If you string low (if using poly string) you'll probably not have any trouble with comfort in terms of injury resistance. If you do, try the newest Head Extreme mp, Dunlop SX 300, or even the Wilson clash 100 (I didn't list clash because it's not as good as the other rackets for reasons I won't get into here, but, it is very arm friendly if that becomes a priority). Choose 270/285/300g model depending on your strength level. Once you reach mid intermediate onwards, you can start to think about racket more. You can start to think about strings. Maybe even customisation once you're an advanced player (weighted tape etc). The rackets listed above, bar the clash, can suit players from beginner to grand slam champions, so it might still be one of those or it might be something else. But that's for the player to figure out when they get to a stage where it's time to think about it.

@@sjjapp Thank you for taking the time to give such detailed answer =) Personally I purchased Yonex Ezone 100 2022 edition. Tennisnerd.net suggests newbeginners should rather use multifilament and not poly. So I went with multif (Technifibre X1Biphase). Reason I asked regarding Babolat was that I recently attended a group tennis course. A few participants did not have their own racquet, so they loaned. The racquets they happened to borrow was Babolat Pure Aero Rafa Edition. After the course ended they were taking pictures/noting down the name of it, since they had enjoyed it. I suggested that if they were seriously considering buying the Pure Aero, they should at least try Pure Drive first. We got 20% discount on Babolat racquets after attending the course. Babolat is kind of the only brand that we could demo near where we live. I don't really see why newbeginners should go down the route of Pure Aero and VCORE. We didn't learn the topspin forehand grip yet, so why buy the spinfriendly racquets when we have not learned how to properly use spin in rally etc? And even when we learn basic spin groundstrokes, I doubt we would be anywhere close to getting much out of ex a Pure Aero's potential.
@sjjapp
@sjjapp Жыл бұрын
@@Nessaj87 for a beginner to lower intermediate, a tweener is a tweener. So a pure aero or a pure drive, the results will roughly end up the same. See, there's a ton of overlap. They don't truly occupy different classes like say a modern control racket (Wilson Blade 98, Tecnifibre TF40 etc). Tennis nerd defines them as spin tweeners (pure aero, vcore 100, head extreme etc) and power tweeners (pure drive, head instinct, Wilson ultra 100 etc) but they are variations of same formula. So a pure aero and a pure drive offer the player most of the same things. They are different, but the ways in which they are different only really come into play, in effective sense, once a player has the fundamentals down. So Nadal as a teen used the pure drive and then switched to the first Aero Pro Drive. If I remember right it as somewhat designed for him or something like that. It was essentially a spin off, to use movie terms, of the pure drive. To focus even more on higher launch angle and spin access. And nowadays each brand essentially has their own spin and power tweener. But both types of tweener offer great energy return and spin access. It's just that spin tweeners go all in on spin that little bit more, and force tweeners give the player a slightly straighter launch angle (but still high) and sometimes a bit more energy return. The same technique applies to both spin and force tweeners though. So full western or semi western forehands that are at an advanced level and play with a lot of spin/RPMs will benefit from both frame types. The advanced player will decide in this case which variation is better for them. But for beginners to lower intermediates, it won't make a difference. The difference between the frames is too small for players building the fundamentals to really objectively need one over the other. Either will do. Both are forgiving and user friendly and make it easier for the player to get ball over net. Both give good energy return. That's not to say beginners to lower intermediates won't prefer one over the other if the tried both. They will prefer one or the other. I'm talking about objective difference from perspective of playing better with one or the other. There simply isn't enough of a difference in the important aspects for a beginner to lower intermediate to make use of. At least in effective game changing way. Your purchase of ezone 100 is fine. It was on my list for you in previous message. As for strings, a softer poly at a low tension is fine for beginners (like somewhere in 40s (lbs). A multi is a good option as well and you could string that a little higher. You do get more control with a poly though and at that beginner to lower intermediate level, you'd get sufficient help from the racket (tweener) to generate pace and depth required at that level. So a multi isn't really necessary. I'd even recommend against it. here's why. If you would like to he an advanced player oneday, you want to build those fundamentals. The last thing someone wants when building fundamentals is to build improper technique where you're having to try and compensate for too much energy from the racket (like a head tis2 or 6 or whatever that popular beginner racket is called). Multis tends to be powerful. Polys are not. A poly also bites the ball better so you can better learn to build spin into your game. I think a multi for a bit is still fine though. There are advanced players even that string tweeners with hybrids (gut/fake gut/multi in half of racket and poly in other) as well. From a data/science perspective, and this is using tennis warehouse university data, Babolat rackets have better stability and power than other rackets generally outside the preferable hitting zone. This is rather notable. Here's why. It's only when you become an advanced player do you gain enough control over your swing to consistently meet your contact point on full fast swings. So if you're hitting it often outside the ideal strike zone, you will get less power and stability with rackets outside of Babolat. This is using data. So it's not my opinion. Yonex is frequently referenced as having superior sweetspots, and they are great, but data suggests Babolat have more effective hitting areas (bigger). I suspect this is down to increased stiffness (RA). This is a double edged sword. On one side higher RA has performance benefits. On other side less comfort. So for beginners to intermediatesnin general I'd say it's especially advisable to string Babolats low. Just in case you get one in near future. It won't be a problem once you become an advanced player though (highly unlikely anyway).

@@sjjapp Great reply, ty for the info regarding strings and racquets :) Haha it's funny that you mention the Head Ti6. I purchased one since it was the "recommended beginner racquet" but one week before the tenniscourse I realized it's not the correct racquet to learn fundamentals, and even this channel said something of the sorts "get some control in your life" as the Ti6 was a "bazooka". Yeah I saw the Ezone was on your list, which was good, I think I made a good choice :) I've been dabbling with the idea of getting a PureDrive so I can see if I like that better than the Ezone100. But tennisnerd reviews on the PureDrive isn't the greatest, ofc it's just 1 person but yeah he highlighted some stuff that has made me a bit skeptical about going that route. Then again coach Nikola Aracic from Intuitive Tennis has high praise for the PureDrive. I might demo it though, just to try it. Did only try 10 serves with a PureDrive with Polys when doing the course. Anyway as a new player learning tennis I've purchased a Ezone 100 and a Head ti6 so maybe I should play more before investing more money in another racquet ^__^

@@Nessaj87 tennis nerd channel is great. Lots of great sources of info like pro player setups and such. But he's one guy. He's also one guy with very strong bias when it comes to what he likes, and unfortunately it greatly affects how he reviews rackets. He's not alone in that. This channel is the same. Most are. And it's very hard to not be biased for reasons that intuitive tennis described. We all have our own muscle memory. Our own swing style. Our game styles. And intuitive tennis said it well when he said it's totally useless to watch racket reviews as all it says is what suited or didn't suit that individuals muscle memory etc. I'll save you time now and tell you that all main line rackets from top brands are pretty much equal. They're all great. And if you want evidence of that, note that almost all mainline rackets from top brands are used on the pro tour. Not always the current generation (pros tend to be very faithful to a racket and merely update the paintjob), but they're all being used by someone out there basically. And those are players whose very careers depend on winning matches, so we best believe they wouldn't go into a match with a racket they don't like. Some more detail on why mainline rackets from top brands are equal. Every performance factor is created via design choices with a racket. It's like a bunch of sliders. So to get this and that quality, certain design choices are made. It's why an ezone 100 is similar to a pure drive which is similar to a Dunlop FX 500 etc. Similar design choices have been made because they've aimed for a similar target performance. What we have are variations of these formulas. So the ezone 100 competes directly with the pure drive. They differ in these ways, and it doesn't make on better than the other. Move one slider up and you move something else down. It's how it is. Anyway. The ezone 100 has a slightly lower launch angle, it's slightly more controlled/contained, slightly more comfortable, and you feel slightly more connected to the ball. Those are the biggest differences. The pure drive is slightly more powerful at same weight, slightly better/easier spin access, slightly higher launch angle, and has a slightly more effective hitting area (larger). Seeing how you're just starting out, I'd recommend staying with the racket you've already bought since it's a tweener and it will do the job just fine. No need to buy a pure drive now. Choosing a racket, testing rackets, this can be an endless jungle that you get lost in, even for a pro player. Once you get the racket bug it's tough to snap out of it. It's very addictive. Shapo seems to have gotten it this year, starting with a vcore 95, moving to ezone 98, then to 2021 version of vcore 95 and now to the 2023 vcore 95 not released yet. So it can even happen to pros. But should it happen to you, at least wait till your game has all the fundamentals in place and you can truly potentially gain something from it. Once you have solid fundamentals and you feel it's time to see what happens to your game when you try different frames, I'd recommend starting with the pure drive (if you want to experiment sideways so to speak, rather than first try a different type of racket altogether) as it's a direct competitor and the most popular racket in this class and perhaps in the world along with the pure aero. When Yonex makes the ezone and vcore, when head makes the head extreme and instinct, when Wilson makes the ultra 100 and burn 100 and so on and so forth, they are all looking at the pure drive and pure aero. It's not because they're better rackets, but that they have set the standard and every racket in this class will ultimately end up in a comparison with them. Over time you'll learn what you like and don't like and you can approach your setup as such. When it comes to experimenting with different classes, note that there are currently only 4 classes available basically at retail nowadays, from bigger brands. These are tweener (includes spin and force tweeners), near tweener or 'balanced', modern control, and traditional control. I'd recommend trying one of each once your fundamentals are in place (but I'd suggest not shifting from tweener class till you've tried pure aero and pure drive). If you ever become an advanced player upwards, you'll want to start focusing on strings and tensions as well. You may even begin to look into customisation of frames. You can actually alter the performance significantly through customisation (weighted tape, silicone etc) to the extent that the slowest racket on the market can become more powerful than the most powerful stock retail rackets and powerful rackets can become more controlled than a control racket etc. And this is something many amateurs aren't aware of. Most pro player setups are rocket launchers, even if they use control sticks, because of how they're customised. Or if not customised or only lightly they usually use stiffer more powerful rackets. They can be very demanding though, depending on the spec, so only rocket launchers in the hands of someone of such quality.

Last I checked the two best selling rackets globally are pure aero and pure drive. I've also played in many countries, and the two most common frames I've seen are? Yes, pure aero and pure drive. At 5.0/5.5 level and above, the three most common frames I've seen are pure aero, pure drive, and Wilson blade 98. On the WTA and ATP circuits, many players use babolat rackets. My thoughts go something like this. Your local pro is using his or her own bias to base their decision. It's very common. With almost anything. Babolat is huge commercially. It also is extremely popular among professionals. They're doing just fine. But sure, Rafa is huge for Babolat. This is actually very important for tennis brands, ie, to get big names behind them. I'm sure Medvedev and Swiatek are helping Tecnifibre. Federer helps Wilson. Wawrinka, Shapo, Ruud, Kyrgios etc help Yonex. The average man or woman is heavily influenced by big names on tv and what rackets they appear to swing. It's why Prince and Dunlop aren't doing amazingly right now, despite producing great frames (lack of big names behind them). This is not at all reflective of quality. That's my point. But at the same time, bad frames simply wouldn't be picked up by high level players to pros. So Babolat rackets are both popular and actually genuinely great.

@@niceguy5430 any spin focused racket is. The pure aero is one of the most spin friendly rackets going so yes, even with a durable string at a thick guage, a high level player will go through strings very quickly with it (with most rackets actually, just even more so with Aeros etc). But that's probably not going to be a problem for such players, as strings usually drop in performance within a few hours or so anyway. So if you haven't broken them by then such a player may choose to cut them out. And if they don't the string will probably break before it goes too dead still anyway. I'd say playing on with dead strings is worse than them breaking before or as it happens. That's high levels. 4.5s and below can probably still get durability of stringjob from it with a durable string and a high guage if needed, and additionally they can lower tension for increased string durability. And most players of course probably occupy 4.0 or lower, so for most players this racket being a string eater shouldnt be a problem. I've known some 4.5s even where their pure drives still have poly strings in them after 6 months or more.

I think the takeaway from this is that lots of young players use Babolat because they see the pros use frames which are painted to look like the retail models. Nadal is a typical example. It shows Babolat is good at marketing but it doesn't really explain what features of the actual Babolat racquet make it a good seller or would improve your game. Perhaps it is because there aren't any?

its not just for young kids and pros. Everyone in between. college, young adult and middle age. I see Pure aero's at tennis tounaments also. These racquets are the most copied by all the other manufacturers like Head, Wilson and Yonex. They all have imitations of Pure Aero for spin and pure drive for power. I've used Wilson for 8 years, yonex for 1 and babolat for 3. For me the stability, power, spin are unmatched. I have good technique and mechanics.

@@Batwam0 I understand your comments but you need to understand that Nadal doesn't play with a Pure Aero. He uses an Aero Pro Drive with a Pure Aero paint job. Most of the top pros use "prostock" frames painted in the current model colour schemes.

@@user-be5qg7mr1s Spin is more of a function of strings than of the frame. Spin is determined by the grip on the ball at impact, the resilience of the string to spring back, and the speed of the racquet head at impact. The open string pattern allows the string to load and then release more than a closed string pattern. This is why a 16x19 will spin more than an 18x20. Nadal has great spin because he is very strong, and can generate a lot of racquet head speed, and he uses a string that loads and releases. It's not because the Babolat spins the ball more. Babolat make stiff racquets with very little shock absorbing technology. So they hurt a lot of peoples arms. They are very popular because they are marketed well and they pay a lot of pros to use them, as do Wilson, Head and Yonex. Everyone has different levels of strength, endurance, swing technique, which is why one racquet type does not suit everyone. The ball is a certain dimension, weight, pressure. So given these variables, most racquets for everyday players are hovering around 280-300 grams, with different balance points, weights, head sizes and levels of flexibility. The old adage that pros need smaller head sizes and heavy racquets and tight swing patterns is slowly disappearing. The reason they needed heavy was because the heads were small and the sweetspots were tiny. They are learning that a bigger head means a larger sweetspot, which means less mishits, which means more consistency. The Volkl company have a number of different types of racquets wit many technologies added to give power, stability, and be very easy on the arm. But they don't pay pros and they do very little marketing. I would contend that a Volkl V-Cell 8 would play every bit as well as a Pure Aero, and not hurt your arm, and a V-Cell 4 would play better than a Pure Drive or a Pure Aero. But no one knows about them because they don't play pros to use them.

My experience with Pure Drive is completely opposite. Most women I know all use Pure Drive vs. men. They like/want a light racquet with a ton of power. Guys I know don't really need that.
