I really like this redemption. Diane didn’t need a near-death experience or the loss of a loved one. She just looked in a mirror, saw herself for what she’d become and had her epiphany.

Personally I think it’d be more meaningful, and as a nod to the first King Fu Panda, that Diane saw her reflection in the Golden Dolphin trophy like how Po saw his reflection in the Dragon Scroll and realized that there is no secret ingredient to greatness.

I feel like it might have been more compelling if they had an underlying reason other than catching her own reflection. Po didn't exactly have a tragic backstory either in the first film, but the audience got to know him a lot more as a person than we did Diane. They didn't even reveal her as the Crimson Paw until the very last minute and a lot of her character was kind of ambiguous before that point.

Creator commentary notes Diane did this all alone, she had no friends or support during her atonement. I feel like this makes this all the more intimate, Wolf is her first REAL friend that she can reveal her true self around, and she saw Wolf systematically give away EVERYTHING, not just to 'be good' but so Diane could have this bond and so his own friends could go down the right path. Diane is probably not just being nice when she says the other Bad Guys should understand how lucky they are.
@lexusdriver1963

The Bad Guys film teaches you a moral lesson not just that crime doesn't pay and building a moral compass can separate what's right and wrong but knowing who your real friends are. Mr. Wolf has friends, Mr. Snake, Mr. Shark, Mr. Piranha, and Ms. Tarantula. Diane has no friends when she became Governor and leaving behind the life of crime but when she met Mr. Wolf she sees him in her shoes when she was the Crimson Paw and in this scene it shows that Mr. Wolf is Diane's first true friend. Diane shares her backstory with Mr. Wolf and Mr. Wolf realizes that Diane was just like him and at this point both Mr. Wolf and Diane find it hard to let go of the past but together they overcame it and both Mr. Wolf and Diane finally found closure and they let go of the past. Also Diane reassured Mr. Wolf that someday his friends, if they're real friends they'll understand because that's what true friends do, in times of hardship Mr. Wolf's friends will understand, just giving them time to process the reality. Professor Marmalade is nothing like Mr. Wolf, his girlfriend Diane, his childhood friend Mr. Snake and his friends Mr. Shark, Mr. Piranha, and Ms. Tarantula. He's a selfish, self-centered, narcissistic, good-for-nothing, scumbag criminal who viewed Mr. Wolf, Diane, Mr. Snake, Mr. Shark, Mr. Piranha, and Ms. Tarantula as his properties. People who view someone as their property are horrible awful people.

@@lexusdriver1963 I'd say the Bad Guys also has a key theme about influence and how even small gestures or actions can have BIG affect on the people around you. Wolf's arc seems to not just be about 'turning good' but also changing from a toxic leader who leads his friends into bad decisions into a nurturing one that puts them on the right path. Diane also seems to have a lower key one concerning being an authority figure. Both learn to be a good influence, which is just as vital as simply doing good deeds and having a 'good' public persona. The WHOLE FILM starts because Diane trash talked the Bad Guys on TV for publicity, and all it takes is Wolf calling her a hypocrite (not realising how impactful that is in context of her character) for her to reflect on this and want to atone someone in the same position she was, in turn completely redirecting Wolf's plans from wanting to take the Golden Dolphin to spite her for earlier to wanting to change for real, as well as him leaving a certain push pop so his friends would understand why. In the end they both take turns bailing each other out, it's a secret act that no one else will know or appreciate but they know it changes everything for one person, 'bad guy legacy' be damned. The two characters combined cause so many domino effects that lead into the group obliterating Marmalade's scheme, if not Wolf and co would have been framed and jailed, and Diane likely would have been exposed or at least tanked her political career. The two keep thinking they are 'playing the game' and being master manipulators, though both kinda fail miserably at it and keep getting outsmarted by someone else. Their true master strokes are simply improving their behaviour for the sake of other people.

The writers and animators did at least take note of the trend that female movie characters are being made so powerful as to be flawless and free of natural vulnerabilities. Diane shows her softer side here and she’s so much more likeable for it.
@e-122psi3
@e-122psi3 Жыл бұрын
True. I like how the film is focused on Wolf, but Diane still comes off as having this subtle arc in the background that culminates in the end, similar to Snake's. Bringing her in earlier on than in the books really fleshes her out some, giving her more flaws and a similar contrast to Marmalade as Wolf. She feels like one of the leads, arguably more developed than the other half of the Bad Guys. Similar to the Bad Guys she arguably starts off something of an asshole, a hypocrite, thinking 'turning good' is the end goal she already obtained and pontificating over other criminals, while still smug about being a master thief that got away with everything. It is through her time with Wolf that she properly gets what being 'good' is, it's an ongoing process where you have to show the same empathy and sacrifice to others. That Diane had to be stopped from admitting it all for Wolf feels like something brought through by character development, both his and her own, something most 'strong females' lack enough depth to undergo in the first place. Even cool little touches like how she lights up around Wolf following the dance, and how through pure imagery of her home and car you get the gist of how dreary and lonely her life is outside her profession, a contrast to the Bad Guy's thrillbent but hedonistic one. As the creative team noted, Diane did NOT have someone supporting her throughout her atonement, which is a testiment of strength but also a tragic vulnerable quality. It makes their bond feel all the more intimate, that they need this kindred spirit. Also she's competent while still wonderfully comedic, she's allowed to have jokes on her and be one of the guys, which is equally rare with female characters currently who are usually 'above it all'.

The Golden Dolphin Trophy has the power to reveal the truth in ways you would not expect: 1.Falling off of Shark's Dress when Wolf denies stealing it. 2.Subconciously makes Diane realize that being a criminal does not define her true personality. 3.Falls on Marmalade from out of nowhere which frames him as the Crimson Paw

The only time it kinda betrays this is when it tempts Wolf into getting captured, though even then it bought time for the others to come in and save them, showing they ARE his real friends. It also led to the Zumpango Diamond getting snagged by Marmalade in the first place, taking care of the one crime Diane didn't atone for and getting Marmalade framed (also like how it kinda shown Diane she could be just as careless and cocky as Wolf).

Luggins doesn't know what type of character Professor Marmalade is. You'd honestly think that Luggins would complement Marmalade really. Marmalade would've easily screwed over Luggins. If it was Diane helping Mr. Wolf and his friends, Diane wouldn't screw over Mr. Wolf and his friends.

Hey Wolf, there's something you should know. It's something a troll told a young man. Destiny is a gift. Some go their entire lives, living existences in quiet desperation, never learning the truth, that what feels as though a burden pushing down upon our shoulders, is actually a sense of purpose that lifts us to greater heights. Never forget that fear is but the precursor to valor, that to strive and triumph in the face of fear is what it means to be a hero. Don't think; Become.

It is also one of the Three Virtues from Bionicle from LEGO. Unity, Duty, and Destiny. Unity is a form of strength itself, the heroes have a Duty to protect those who are unable to stand up for themselves, and it is their Destiny to overcome evil in whatever form it comes in.

Like Charlie B Barkins after Carface set him up for a crime he didn’t committed and killed him Charlie wanted revenge on Carface, but when Anne Marie came to his life he was only using her for money but when she was sick and kidnapped by Carface, Charlie did the right thing by rescued her and gave his own life for her and Charlie know how hard it was for him walking away from everything you know and be thankful for what you have and Star loving your friends and family instead of yourself.

I Always Picture This Scene In The Movie. Diane: Hey, Wolf? I don't know a lot. You see this? All this stuff that happened to you? It's not your fault. Wolf: [Wolf shrugs] Yeah, I know that. [Wolf averts his eyes to the floor] Diane: Look at me Wolf. [Wolf locks eyes with Diane] Diane: It's not your fault. Wolf: [Wolf nods] I know. Diane: No. It's not your fault. Wolf: I know Diane: No, no, you don't. It's not your fault. [Diane moves closer to Wolf] Diane: Hmm? Wolf: I know. [Wolf stands up, trying to keep distance] Diane: It's not your fault. Wolf: Alright. Diane: It's not your fault. [Wolf closes his eyes, he's fighting for control] Diane: It's not your fault. Wolf: Don't screw with me. [Wolf shoves Diane back] Wolf: Don't screw with me, Diane, not you! Diane: It's not your fault. It's not your fault. [Wolf breaks into sobs. They hug]

Diane was Mr. Wolf's true friend, Mr. Snake, Mr. Shark, Mr. Piranha, and Ms. Tarantula are his friends but are they his real friends? Mr. Wolf thought that with Professor Marmalade teaching him to be a good guy would make him his friend but Professor Marmalade screwed over Mr. Wolf and his friends at the party. Cuddles slipping away from the scene shows that it's possible that Cuddles found out who his boss really is. Professor Marmalade only cares about himself, he's narcissistic, he's self-centered, he's selfish, the guy's an a-hole. Professor Marmalade is the type of character who will screw you over.

Empress, since she heads the Crimson Paw criminal empire. She's already executed hundreds of her own men for failure.
