I remember reading the review for their first album in Downbeat. I bought it the next day & have been a fan ever since😀 Being a drummer myself obviously Dave King is something special, but the whole group is amazing, & I really like the sax in the mix, Joshua Redmond is ripping it up with those guys, it's the bad plus, plus!

Amen to that. Back then I actually bought These are the Vista's solely because I liked the album art. But boy was I in for a treat. :-)

I'd like to understand this music better. Who should I listen to as a bridge from more familiar kinds of jazz into this territory? or what books or articles should i read

Thelonious Monk is a good start.

I love the music. Love it. But the frenetic camera work, for me, is terribly distracting and almost causes a vertigo-like sensation.

the gentleman in charge of mixing didn't have much consideration for sax and drums
