Rowland S. Howard was a class act. I saw him with the original Birthday Party, in 1981. He was in a field of one. A truly unique guitarist, he never got the acclaim he deserved in his short life. I hope he is up with Ron Asheton, making a glorious racket wherever he is now. As for Nick, he still remains as intense as ever

He never got the acclaim only because it was thoroughly undeserving. He played as well as Nick Cave sang. Dreadful. Positive proof of the degeneration of mankind.

It's great to see Rowland join them for this one. Playing it slower as they did here sacrifices some of the intensity but increases the moody atmosphere. I like it.

No one could play the bass in this like Tracy Pew.

The Birthday Party supported Vic Goddard's Subway Sect in Newcastle in 1980 by ways and means led me to a career in publishing and music promotion... bless them all. I am now a part time shop assistant and pensioner but still love my music

Great to see Nick and Rowland doing these songs, but boy did it need Tracy’s bass.

I was lucky enough to see Cave in his first gigs in England after Birthday Party disbanded. Almost a Birthday Party gig as Rowland S Howard played the full set as Blixa was busy with Neubauten at the time. Fantastic gig at Rock City Nottingham. Played most of the Bad Seed 12" and Mutiny along with the debut album (obviously) of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds.I remember that the posters outside + inside the venue had the band's name as "Nick Cave and The Cavemen"!! WTF?? 😱. The support band were an American band that were still relatively unknown (Not if you listened to John Peel)and I had a single by them called "Death Valley 69". Sonic Youth!. What became of them?! Lol. They were outstandingly loud that night with Lee Renaldo having kitchen knives between the frets. Also..A metal bucket that Kim would use for percussion noise. The 2nd time I saw Nick Cave at Rock City in Nottingham, the band that supported them were fellow Australians by the name "The Moodists". Their sound was a really heavy bass sound. Pretty good, but I only bought their 1st album. As for Cave; I followed for about 4/5 years until it all got a bit dull in my humble opinion. "Kicking against the prices" was a superb covers album, but I zoned out just after that, although the odd gem such as Red Right Hand and Murder Ballads were bloody good, I just preferred the more raucous early stuff. Mutiny 12 inch 4 track was a great end to the Birthday Party! Fucking wings burst out my back!! 💕 👿

Can we be honest... seriously.... The best thing Rowland did was leave Lil Nicky and his obnoxious songs. Rowland was the heart and soul of T.B.P. ... . ..
