THE BANANA IS TWO TONE! Will Matt's Off Road Recovery Like The New Paint?!

We start to reassemble Matt's Off-Road Recovery "the Banana" after painting the inside and roll cage last week. We put the new roof skin on, and have 60 seconds to adhere the foam before it expands too far. After gluing and foaming, I get to use my Pro Spot to weld the roof in place. We get the doors in the paint booth, and finally start to get color on the outside of the Banana.

Thanks Robbie and Crew. This is a great job you are doing for Matt so glad I can over here and watched this whole job go down. Like many others I'm not leaving when the Banana is finished I love what you do and how you present your work. The explanations of what you are doing and how all of your equipment works. I'm 62 and not likely to be doing such detailed work but still understanding some of the tips and tricks maybe useful if I need to do some repairs. Your varied content from recoveries to the Peterbilt and the shop tour are awesome. I'm here for the long haul appreciate the jump cuts only for repetitive content.

Robby, if you turn down the amperage on the spot welder and use a longer dwell time, you won't get the spark show. Also if you Scotchbrite the tips to remove the oxides, you get a better weld. Thin sheet metal doesn't require much amperage to weld together. The longer dwell time allows for a uniform spot weld.

Nice video, I learned a lot. I did drywall for many years, and I was thinking body work feels similar, just different materials and techniques. I also appreciated the tense music when installing the roof skin. I experienced a bit of anxiety over it (I often work with fast setting materials). Keep up the good work, great episode.

I'm an rv tech and I knew absolutely nothing about paint and body prior to watching your channel, thanks for the free knowledge.

Best way to minimise sparks when spot welding is to ensure both pieces of metal are well clamped and are touching flat to each other if they are at an angle it will throw sparks out the gap

I love how well The Banana is coming out, looking great fellas. Great shop tour and meet the guy's video by the way! The facility you've built is truly state of the art. The crew you've assembled is great and the combination of them and the latest and greatest tools allows your shop to give the customer the best results. That I've seen over the past few weeks, awesome job!!

This is the first video I have watched on this channel. Wonderful, fun video. Love to see the evolution of car paint. Robby was born when I was near 40. Until that time, in the "Rust Belt" (those states where winter requires salted roads for three months), every car body would rust away in five years. The major cause was pinhole paint chips caused by pea-sized stones, which are everywhere. They would chip the paint down to the metal, and rust would grow from there, such that every five year old car was called a "rust bucket". Now they put on the "clear coat" which cures to a incredibly hard plastic that utterly prevents the chips. It is still a marvel to me to see 10-year-old cars with no body rust.

So impressed! I love your crew's dynamic; balancing a good time with solid work ethic as well as a genuine respect for each other. I wish all body shops paid the same attention to detail as you guys.

This is so cool to watch the teamwork. Fab Rats currently has Ed's litte LJ, Robby has Matt's Jeep, Ed riding on recoveries with Matt, all we need now is Matt working on one of Fab Rats' offraoders and the circle just might be complete.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Love your clear explanations of what you're doing. More information than what I need on the paint equipment, but better too much than too little - those who can use the information appreciate it, the rest of us just let it sail right on by. I personally find all your body-working techniques and explanations just fascinating as all get-out. Thank you so much for going to the trouble and taking the time to explain all you do. Keep up the great work!
